15.01.2022 STRATOSPHERIC BALLOON LAUNCH // COUNT DOWN TO 10OCT2020 #3 As part of the Royal Australian Air Force Jericho’s High Altitude Program, a stratospheric balloon la...unch will be conducted on 10 October 2020 from Central NSW. The balloon has additional space for a secondary payload, which has been offered to Cadets Branch as an opportunity to engage with our Australian Air Force Cadets in a way that is otherwise not possible with current COVID-19 restrictions. The payload contains Unit Patches from over 100 Cadet Units from around the country and will feature the Australian Air Force Cadets 80th Anniversary Logo on the outside of the container housing the patches which will be visible in camera images. SAVE THE DATE: - Weather dependant, the launch is set for Saturday 10 October 2020, approx 1100H AEDT LIVE FEED: You will be able to watch the pre-flight activities and payload recovery LIVE via Facebook stream: (https://www.facebook.com/robertbrandspace/). - Live feeds will occur occasionally from 9am. The balloon filling will occur approx 10:30am and take 20 to 30 minutes FOLLOW THE FLIGHT: - Once the flight begins, tacking will be available to view here: https://aprs.fi/ - Balloon callsign: ‘VK2URB-11’ The primary objective of the balloon launch is to fly a prototype MultiSpectral sensor, which is being developed through the Royal Australian Air Force's Plan Jericho. The cameras will collect imagery from ‘near space’ and will be used to further develop a HyperSpectral sensor capability including assisting with the training of machine learning programming and environmental design factors for use in the upper atmosphere. The Australian Air Force Cadets have been offered a payload with our friends at Royal Australian Air Force Plan Jericho, which will LAUNCH our Squadron and Wing patches INTO THE STRATOSPHERE for the very first time. Shout out to our friends at Royal Australian Air Force Plan Jericho, who have allocated a payload specifically for our Australian Air Force Cadets to launch into the stratosphere. We are taking STEM to a whole new level here - what a way to kick off the AAFC80 celebrations alongside the Air Force's 100th anniversary!! ***SAVE THE DATE: - Weather dependant, the launch is set for Saturday 10 October 2020, approx 1100H AEDT - Pre-launch activities: any minor delays will be advised on the live feed. A current First Aid certification is a compulsory requirement for all AAFC staff and for all of the cadets that are to become CUO & CWOFF.... 01.01.2022 224 SQN AWARD PRESENTATION// This past Wednesday night to mark the end of Term 3 at 224 SQN, the SQN had a couple of very special presentations to be made. Officer Commanding 2 Wing, Wing Commander (AAFC) Tony Lee OAM attended the evening and awarded LCDT Katie Gorski and LCDT Evelyn Robinson their hard earned Bronze level Duke of Edinburgh International Awards...
