25.01.2022 To all cadets, parents and interested people. The unit will begin parading for 2019 on TUESDAY the 5th of Feb, with a revised starting time of 1845Hrs (6.45pm). The time change was made to make life a little easier for those who may not finish work before 5 and for those who live further away from the unit. If any cadet, parent or interested person has any queries, please contact the page or myself on 0400801108.... Take this week to check your gear over so we can sort any issues early. See you on the 5th. UA Mitch Turnbull Training Officer.
25.01.2022 A summary of Term 1,2019. This term, our cadets have been engaged in completing our Term 1 Training Program, designed by our senior cadet leaders. Lessons such as First Aid, Radio Communications and Drill (plus many others) reinforce our basic skills needed as a cadet unit.... We also welcomed a few new recruits to our unit, as well as saying farewell to our CSM (Company Sergeant Major) who has joined the Australian Army. This allowed some of our senior cadets to move up to new positions within the command structure into positions such as Platoon Sergeant and Section 2ICs. We are also currently planning three or four trips/bivs for term two and three including our upcoming Anzac Day trip and parade in the city as part of the larger services commemorating our military sacrifices past and present. As always, new cadets and parents interested are always welcome to come and have a look at our unit on a Tuesday night, 6.30pm till 9.30pm. Feel free to message the page for more information.
23.01.2022 The CUO is currently trying to fundraise before she cuts her hair for Variety (who support sick and marginalized children). Every dollar counts and I am sure the cookies will be good.
23.01.2022 Good evening everyone! Due to electrical works at the depot, 304 ACU will not be parading this Wednesday (5/9/18). We will be back next week on the 12th. Badge selling on the 8th is still going ahead.
22.01.2022 Another EMU is behind us as we board the bus for home, and after being on rations all week the only thing left on the cadets minds is the stop at Maccas. After a night out at Tallarook State Forest and abseiling off Warragul rocks, the last few days of camp were spent at the National Service Lines (NSL) participating in the obstacle course, drill with inoculated weapons, a visit to the Tank Museum and long, hot showers.
21.01.2022 The AAC is a national youth program with cadet units spread all throughout the country, including a unit on Norfolk Island. This is a short video from our friends down south about what the AAC is.
21.01.2022 On Wednesday cadets from 304 ACU had their first opportunity to practice compressions on our new CPR training dolls. Our new CPR Training Kit contains adult, youth and infant CPR dolls, a training AED, and a training EpiPen. 304 ACU is incredibly grateful to the Moe RSL for donating this kit to the unit, our new resources will be a powerful training tool for years to come.
20.01.2022 And that concludes our field phase for Alpha company for EMU 17! During their time spent out in the field cadets were able to participate in navigational exercises and a range of activities, such as capture the flag at night. Celebrations were had on Tuesday as our designated birthday day and a ceremony was held for the lowering of the camp flag. Cadets are expected to participate in the range today and abseiling and the obstacle course later in the week

17.01.2022 Yesterday morning cadets from 304 ACU Newborough assisted our local RSL in raising funds for Legacy. Legacy is an amazing charity that supports the families of injured or deceased ADF members, and in the short two hours spent on the ground the cadets raised nearly $1,800 from generous members of the community who purchased badges and bears. All of the funds raised from the community goes directly back into supporting the over 250 people in the La Trobe Valley who receive assistance from Legacy. Thank you to all the cadets and parents who volunteered their time. More information about Legacy can be found at http://www.legacy.com.au
16.01.2022 Recently the cadets from 304 completed their annual field exercise (known as Ex EMU) where cadets spent the entire week living out field with cadets from Sale and Bairnsdale. In addition to the obstacle course, and firing weapons at the WTSS (simulation) and range, the cadets completed activities planned and implemented by the two CUOs and the CDTWO2 from both Bairnsdale and Newborough. The week was a huge success thanks to the effort of the cadet senior leadership team and their NCOs, while the staff were on hand to oversee the safe conduct and administrative support of the activities, it was a testament to the power of cadets running cadets. Activities included; survival, first aid, navigation, capture the flag, field craft, and activities at night.
13.01.2022 304 Army Cadet Unit recently visited the Australasian Road Resue Championships held at Lardner Park. As a continuation of training received through the SES last year, cadets were able to observe both Australian and international teams (New Zealand, Hong Kong) compete in simulated first response scenarios. Steve from ARRO also gave the cadets a look behind the scenes at the makeup kits used by the "casualties". Hopefully our cadets and NCOs can implement some new techniques and strategies at the unit as a result of the trip!
13.01.2022 Over the past weekend cadets from 304 ACU were invited by the 308 ACU in Sale to attend an Emergency Response Training exercise at the Boisdale Hill Climb Track. During the activity cadets worked under the watchful eyes of local SES, CFA, Ambulance and Police members as they responded to a mock emergency situation. Cadets present were also able to receive driving instruction from instructors form the Maffra and District Car Club on basic car control techniques and road safety initiatives, for many cadets it was their first opportunity to operate a vehicle.
11.01.2022 https://www.facebook.com/555299301296517/posts/997546520405124/ This article is worth a read, it gives an overview of the opportunities and the progressive learning available to all cadets.
10.01.2022 If there are any parents/guardians/family or cadets in need of any camping gear for bivs or in general, now may be a good time to get to Traralgon. Sleeping bags, socks, thermals etc will all be at good prices. The unit is in no way associated with the store, this is just a heads up for early Christmas shopping or birthday gifts etc.
10.01.2022 After a final kit check and a kick of the footy, the cadets are excited to be on their way with friends from 308 ACU Sale to Puckapunyal Military Area for their Annual Field Exercise, also known as EMU 17. 304 ACU cadets will be spending the week together with cadets from 308 Sale and 313 Bairnsdale in both the field and barracks environments.
09.01.2022 The cadets from 304 recently participated in Exercise Great Bermingham 17, a weekend activity designed to prepare them for the upcoming Annual Field Exercise, Ex EMU. On the weekend cadets were able to practice their navigation, RATEL (radio), cooking and living in the field skills. The training program for the weekend was created by the cadet company commander and delivered by our senior cadets. Cadets is run by cadets, for cadets. Here is a short clip from that weekend.
09.01.2022 In honour of International Womens Day we are celebrating not only the young women, past and present, of 304 ACU but all the women who support us and our cadets. #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2018 #PressForProgress #YourFutureIsInYourHands
07.01.2022 Over the school holidays 304 held an extended biv at one of our local camps. Cadets arrived on Saturday morning and were joined by some cadets from 305 Surrey Hills. After a day of familiarisation training the cadets were split into two opposing teams who then spent the rest of the camp fighting it out to win The Great Sloth. Time was spent building friendly assets (some more durable than others), trying to locate the other teams assets by navigating and patrolling, complet...ing first aid scenarios, egg and spoon races through obstacles, fishing competitions, and various night exercises. Red team eventually took The Great Sloth after winning a tie breaker game of fishing. The cadets had a great time and enjoyed the opportunity to spend the longer time (five days) in the field. Cadets is back this Wednesday where we will be preparing ourselves for ANZAC Day at Moe next week.
05.01.2022 Over the past few weeks each section has been given the opportunity to create a care package for service members spending the Christmas period serving overseas. The cadets and their families have generously donated items towards these packages. If you wish to send your own packages the details can be found here: http://www.defence.gov.au/Events/Christmas/support.asp
05.01.2022 Bi-annually our cadets participate in the large ceremony held in Melbourne as part of ANZAC Day. The full day allows the cadets to be part of something larger than themselves and to immerse themselves in a range of services such as flag and banner bearing. It is a very special occassion which most people will never get to march in and our cadets achieved a high standard of dress, bearing and respect in what can be a quite chaotic day behind the scenes.
04.01.2022 As cadets prepare for their Annual Field Exercise (Ex EMU) this coming weekend, 304 ACU would like to share some of the activities the cadets should expect via a short video from Ex EMU 2017. Exercise EMU is a week long activity held during the September school holidays at Puckapunyal Military Area in Northern Victoria. Cadets can be expected to be challenged, individually and as a team, through a variety of activities such as the obstacle course, abseiling wall, and surviving living with their peers whilst spending the week sleeping on the unforgiving Pucka earth!
