20.01.2022 Have you ever walked across this bridge in South Wharf? Now a popular pedestrian and cycle passage, the Webb bridge was designed to resemble a Koori eel trap. Eel was a common food source for the Traditional Custodians of the land, the Bunurong Boon Wurrung and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung peoples, and would usually be wrapped up in bark, secured with leaves and cooked on an open fire. 19.01.2022 Last Melbourne experience we would like to share is from Bhavik in Food and Beverage "Being a Sports fanatic myself and Melbourne being the sports and events capital of Australia, I miss going to sporting events and the hustle and bustle of the crowds, the cheers and the excitement! I also enjoyed the CBD, restaurants and cafes and being amongst people not worrying about social distancing I am certain we'll get through this and come out the other end stronger. Be safe all ...of you and be optimistic even if these are tough times but they will surely pass." 15.01.2022 Have you enjoyed the sunshine along Birrarung Marr recently? Have you travelled along Wurundjeri Way? Indigenous language is all around us - you probably know a few words without realising! Birrarung Marr is named in the Woiwurrung language of the indigenous Wurundjeri people, with Birrarung meaning river of mists and Marr referring to the side of the river. 14.01.2022 In amongst the greenery of Parliament Gardens, you will find this statue, depicting Sir Douglas and Lady Gladys Nicholls. Two very prominent Indigenous figures, Sir Douglas and Lady Gladys were strong campaigners for Indigenous rights. Sir Douglas was the first Aboriginal person ever to be Knighted, and Lady Gladys dedicated her life to help improve the welfare of the underprivileged, especially in the Indigenous communities. The pair are the first Aboriginal Leaders to have a memorial dedicated to them in Melbourne. 11.01.2022 These five shields are a part of an installation known as Birrarung Wilam, or River Camp. Created by Indigenous artists Vicki Couzens (Kirrae Wurrong/Gunditjmara), Lee Darroch (Yorta Yorta, Mutti Mutti and Trawlwoolway) and Treahna Hamm (Yorta Yorta), the five shields each represent a clan of the Kulin nation. They can be found along Birrarung Marr. 09.01.2022 Standing tall in Enterprize Park are 30 recycled pier poles, covered in intricate art and carvings. "Scar A Stolen Vision is a collaborative work by Indigenous artists that engages with the tradition of tree scarring. The installation symbolises the landscape marked by scar trees, articulating the presence of Indigenous people and their connection to country. The term ‘scar’ links with wounds, healing and memory concepts embodied in the work." 07.01.2022 Yoon from Talent and Culture shares what she is looking forward to getting back to. "I miss spending time in the Melbourne CBD with all of its restaurants, bars, cafes and shopping malls. I was an online shopaholic but after ordering an incorrect size of shoes several times, I definitely can’t wait to go back to shops. Also I even miss walking in crowds and not worrying about social distancing from others." 03.01.2022 Next to share, Jason from Marketing. "For me everything goes back to Akihabara, Harajuku and Shinjuku. So therefore what I love and miss of Melbourne is some of the amazing anime/gaming and Japanese cuisine that we have here. A few favourites are Shujinko Ramen a 24/7 outpost of phenomenal ramen and karaage. Hakata Gensuke Ramen, which is an institution in the most traditional ramen.... And if course the amazing Minotaur, which is a haven of all things anime, comics and waaay more. The closest thing that we can get to the amazing stores in Akihabara. 2021 Japan here we come" Picture taken by Jason #yourmelbourne #visitmelbourne #yourmelbourne #memories #ramen #Shujinko Ramen #adventurestobehad #melbourne #visitvic #victoria #staysafe
