23.01.2022 31ACU is currently in the process of trying out a mobile phone application in order to help distribute documents, activity notifications and other reminders more seamlessly. For our current serving cadets, we would like to have a number of cadets who may be interested in trialling this application in order to provide some feedback as to how well this could work for us. If you are interested in joining the trial period, please reach out by sending us a message here or via emai...l. Please note that unfortunately at this time, parents and guardians will not have access to this application until further security measures can be implemented. 12.01.2022 A friendly reminder to all current service cadets, parents and legal guardians. Please be aware that the annual fee for 2019 is now due. The annual fee is used to cover the costs of transport, rations and fuel for our 5 weekend bivouacs occurring throughout the year. In addition to the above, the annual fees are used to support the acquisition of stores and equipment that are not available or subsidised by the Department of Defence, and to support the ongoing maintenance and... repair of these assets. We understand that this fee may place strain on some members and their families, and as such we encourage that you take the time to speak with our Treasurer on a parade night to discuss payment options. If you have any questions regarding the annual fee, please feel free to contact us via email on [email protected], or speak with one of our staff on a parade night. Regards, 31 ACU Norwood

11.01.2022 For all cadets attending the ANZAC Day March in the CBD on the 25th of April. If you are attending the march unaccompanied by an adult, please note that you will be required to attend the depot NLT then 0630 hrs in order to travel together into the CBD. Please be advised that you will also be required to collect an additional consent form from the orderly room on or before the day and have this signed by a parent or guardian. This form is an additional form to the previous one you have already completed. At this stage we are unaware of the expected time the event will be concluding. We suggest that the cadets carry their mobile phones (if applicable) or the contact numbers of their parents or guardians to advise of them of the completion time.

10.01.2022 For all parents, guardians and cadets themselves, please find a letter attached from the Commander of the Australian Defence Force Cadets regarding the recent terror-related incidents being reported in the media. Transcript below: "RYD/OUT/2017/762 AB33615631 To officers, instructors, parents and guardians of ADF Cadets... You might have read in the media recently that Mr Tamin Khaja is to be sentenced soon in the NSW Supreme Court after being found guilty of terror-related offences. During the conduct of his trial certain transcripts of conversations, in which Khaja discussed plans to attack an ADF Cadets facility, were tendered in court and are on the public record. The purpose of this letter is two fold. Primarily, I want to reassure all ADF Cadets and their parents/guardians that Defence takes the personal safety and security of all ADF Cadets very seriously. We have emergency response plans in place to respond to incidents that may arise during Cadets' activities. In 2016 the security of all ADF Cadets units was reviewed; subsequently the Vice Chief of the Defence Force directed that all units exercise their emergency response plans at least annually. These exercises are undertaken to reinforce the safety and security of cadets whilst they are participating in activities within their cadet units. Secondly, this case has attracted considerable media interest and you might find that you are approached directly by some media outlets for comment. I encourage you to refer any such inquiriesto your respective Cadet units' Commanding Officers, or contact Defence Media, including after business hours, on email [email protected] or telephone (02) 6127 1999. The safety and security of our young people is foremost in our planning for, and the conduct, of all Cadet activities. This is a responsibility that we continue to take seriously and willingly accept. BJ Kafer, AM, CSC Rear Admiral, RANR Commander Australian Defence Force Cadets 28 November 2017

09.01.2022 Hi everyone, I hope that this finds all of you healthy and as happy as can be during this horrid COVID19 out break. I miss seeing all of you and hope that none... of you has lost interest in the AAC during this difficult period. There is no new news as to when we can start up again. I think May is very unlikely at this point. There is a lot of good reading material for all levels on the cadetnet so have a go, Planning for EMU 2020 is going ahead at the higher levels just in case restrictions are lifted.. Please keep in contact with each other. If you are in difficulty or know of any member who needs help contact me. I can trigger support facilities or advise on what you may need. No one is to feel that they are on their own. The 31 ACU community which incorporates all current members and I am sure all past members will support you. After all we are a special group and in many ways a very large family. Look after your family and friends and please stay safe. Always thinking of you The Grumpy Old Man

07.01.2022 ATTN: Cadets, Parents / Guardians of Cadets RE: Suspension of Australian Army Cadets Activities Government and Defence have enacted a series of measures to reduce and slow the risk of Coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading within the Australian Community. The AAC program is undertaken within the community and the Army and Community partnership is at its core. It has been assessed that, at this time, the greatest contribution the AAC can make to our Nation is to suspend all communit...y-based and public cadet activities in order to assist in slowing the spread of COVID-19. This measure will assist in protecting both the wider community and those members of the AAC who are assessed as potentially vulnerable (ie. over 30% of AAC members are in the vulnerable category due to age or specific pre-existing medical conditions). The following activities are suspended: 1. All parade nights undertaken in Community Based Units. 2. All weekend bivouac and overnight activities. 3. All cadet activities undertaken within the community. This includes fund raising, sausage sizzles, and public recruiting activities. 4. All ceremonial support activities undertaken within the community. This includes support to ANZAC Day activities. 5. All cadet courses camps. 6. All field exercises. This includes the National Adventure Training Award. 7. All unnecessary AAC staff travel, visits, meetings and gatherings. Suspensions take affect at midnight (2359hrs) on 16 Mar 20. These suspension remain in force until 1 May, after which additional constraints may continue to be applied. Please contact the 31 ACU Duty Officer via mobile on 0490 857 205 , or via email [email protected] if you have any questions or queries during this time. Regards, 2LT (AAC) Leigh Brownfield Admin Officer 31 Army Cadet Unit - Norwood
