25.01.2022 Being a new parent is always challenging but never more so than in year like 2020. This week is Perinatal Depression and Anxiety Awareness (PANDA) Week - a week that highlights the support available to parents who might need some help. If that’s you or someone you know, then you’re not alone. One in five new mums and one in ten new dads will experience perinatal depression and anxiety.... The Parent Infant Research Institute at Austin Health has developed a series of online resources to raise awareness and encourage new parents to access the many free tools available. But we can all make a difference by helping the team ‘reach one more person', to let them know it’s OK to ask for help and guide them towards support when they need it. 23.01.2022 As part of easing COVID-19 restrictions, Austin Health is making changes to the way visitors can come to our sites. From Tuesday 17 November, children under the age of 16 are allowed to visit patients when accompanied by a guardian. Each patient will be able to have one visitor OR one group of visitors, once a day for up to two hours. ... Groups of visitors must live together in the same household and can be made up of two adults OR one adult plus children (under 16). An additional two-hour visiting block is also in place between 5.30pm 7.30pm. Exemptions to these rules remain in place for some patients. The safety of patients, visitors and staff remains our number one priority. All visitors must maintain a physical distance of 1.5m from others and follow the directions of staff to help keep everyone safe. 22.01.2022 It’s Mental Health Week! Divisional Director of Mental Health, Hannah Bloom says it's an important reminder to reflect on how we’re going. So many of us have been busy looking after others, but just remember that we can’t look after family and friends if we don’t first look after ourselves, she says. ... Maintaining exercise, connecting with people who make you feel good, stopping to have a coffee and increasing activities that give you pleasure are all important right now. If you’re not quite feeling like yourself, Hannah says you should definitely seek help. It can be difficult to know where to turn for advice and support, but there are lots of great resources available. Beyond Blue and Lifeline are fantastic starting points," says Hannah. 19.01.2022 Look familiar? Burgundy Street, Heidelberg in 1890 and 2020. A lot has happened since the first photo was taken 130 years ago. ... Austin Health is now one of Australia’s major health services, renown in a number of specialities including liver transplantation, infectious diseases, spinal services, intensive care medicine and more. 19.01.2022 Former Austin Health patient, Marcela Haralampidis shares her story this Amputee Awareness Week. The photo I’ve shared is of my cousin Hana, myself (in the middle) and my friend Vera in front of a Cessna plane. This was a proud and fun moment for me. They were visiting from Czech Republic and I took them to Esperance in Western Australia to see the pink lake. ... When trying to get into the plane my prosthetic legs got stuck, so I took them off and got into the plane. It was a bit of a challenge, but I didn’t let my disability stop me, Marcela says. 17.01.2022 Phone and video consultations have never been a more vital part of the way we care for patients than they have during COVID-19. October is Telehealth Awareness Month and thousands of Austin Health patients will receive at least part of their care at home using telehealth this month to save them coming in to hospital. Physiotherapy patient, Catherine Ringwood, had weekly consultations with her physio earlier this year using telehealth.... Being seen from the comfort of my own home saved me time and expense. "Although I did wonder what people thought when the physio was down on the floor with their legs in the air showing me how to do the different exercises!" I found it very powerful to notice how much we can say with only our posture or our eyes. I wanted to capture this as best as I could. This experience has provided great insight into the tireless effort of our healthcare ...workers. Their empathy, bravery and dedication, Susan says. The exhibition is now up online as well as in the ONJ Centre. Find out more: https://bit.ly/3jyqSEV
