25.01.2022 Hi everyone, Last week the students at SCSS were lucky enough to have an opportunity to tune in via a live collaborate session to listen to 3 Mystery Readers read one of The Children’s Book Council of Australia shortlisted books for Book Week. Our lovely Reading Rangers were invited to be the Mystery Readers this year, and had a fantastic time sharing books with the classes. If you are not familiar with our ‘Mystery Reader’ initiative, it began in 2019 as part of the Fest...ival of Learning week. We invite special guests to read a text to a class, this is filmed and put on our school YouTube channel. Before the Mystery Reader comes, the teacher gives three clues to the students and they have a guess as to who is coming. This generates excitement and contributes to our inquiry outcome for all students to have a passion for reading. The process in 2020 has changed slightly due to COVID, hence the live collaborate sessions. We are excited to share the below links to the recorded videos of the Mystery Readers, for you to view at home. Happy Book Week! Kind regards, Rebekah and Leah - Expert Teachers in Reading

07.01.2022 Building respectful relationships Parents and carers play an important role in helping children and young people recognise healthy, respectful relationships. Talking about interactions your family might see in the media and in everyday life, or regularly talking with your child about their friendships, can provide opportunities to positively influence their attitudes about respect.... Modelling how to respectfully disagree and encouraging your child to be aware of their feelings and the feelings of others is important at any age. With many changes to school routines this year, it’s understandable if your child is feeling overwhelmed or disengaged. You can help them regain a sense of stability by discovering ways to flip chaos on its head. #wethedifferents https://www.wethedifferents.qld.edu.au/flip-chaos-on-its-h/
05.01.2022 Today, SCSS remembered with love the very special people that we have lost. In an effort to show our support for World Pancreatic Cancer Day, our Student Leadership Team children came together to wear purple ribbons, to raise awareness for and have conversations about, ways that we can demonstrate care and compassion for our wider SCSS community. We’re pleased to announce that children have committed $250 of their fundraising funds to support the ‘Pancare Foundation’ with on...going cancer research and support for families. Thank you for supporting our SLT and allowing us to in turn help the children to show their support for wonderful causes.
