24.01.2022 The Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) will commence tomorrow (1 September 2020) in 21 local government areas. This means land owners and land managers in these are...as must now obtain a free Fire Permit from their local fire authority before lighting any fires, including hazard reduction burns. Even if you’ve been using fire for many years, safe burning is your responsibility. Contact your local Fire Control Centre to obtain your free Fire Permit and follow its conditions. Heavy fines apply for the unsafe use of fire or if your fire escapes. Don’t be the fire risk to your community. Use fire safely. For further information about the BFDP and Fire Permits, go to www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/BFDP

20.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW Approximately 50% of house fire fatalities are aged 65 years and over. To ensure you have a safe winter it's time to test smoke alarms and check ba...tteries. For people with hearing impairments, making sure they have suitable smoke alarms to keep them safe. We always recommend that you keep a fire extinguisher or fire blanket in your kitchen, in the case of an emergency. It's also important to have an emergency escape plan regardless of your age. This should include: - highlighting clear pathways - minimising trip hazards - ensure locks on doors and windows have keys in an accessible place - never leaving cooking unattended - keeping heaters away from curtains, blankets, table cloths and bedding. Stay warm and safe this winter.

20.01.2022 The most important part of your home fire escape plan is to get out, stay out and call Triple Zero! Unfortunately lives have been lost and people have sustained... significant injuries when they have re-entered a burning building to retrieve pets or other valuables. For more information on creating a home fire escape plan visit our website: https://www.fire.nsw.gov.au/page.php?id=81 #PreparedForAnything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #MoreThanFire

17.01.2022 IMPORTANT CARONAVIRUS UPDATE: FIRST CASES IN OUR REGION Late this afternoon I received confirmation from the NSW Police of our region’s first two confir...med coronavirus cases - in Inverell. An elderly couple, who returned home from a cruise late last week, tested positive today and are in isolation. Their immediate family are also being tested and are isolated. This is all the information I have to hand at the moment as Hunter New England Health, as of today, are refusing to provide me or the community with any detailed information about COVID-19 cases in our region. Up until today, I was receiving a daily update, which I was passing onto local councils and the community, but that ceased today and will not resume. The last update I received was last night and at that point their were no cases anywhere within the Northern Tablelands. By their actions, HNE Health will create a larger information vacuum, inciting further anxiety, confusion and panic in our communities, at a time when there are already heightened tensions. In any crisis, one of the most important things to do is to provide clear, accurate and regularly updated detailed information - it’s not only reassuring but helps build confidence in a community that the situation is being well managed and under control (as much as a situation like this can be). I have issued a call for HNE Health to provide daily public updates on confirmed COVID-19 cases on a local government area by local government area basis to keep everyone informed. We all have a right to this information and it’s critical at this time we all receive it from an offical health source, rather than social media or town gossip. I will continue to push for this until it happens. In the meantime, please take care, stay safe and follow the most recent health advice. Until next time, Adam.

15.01.2022 This morning at 07:07 hrs, Pumper 302 along with RFS were called to an Automatic Fire Alarm (AFA) at the Emmaville Hospital. On departure from station our Comm...s centre upgraded the incident to a confirmed fire and our Hazmat Composite was responded as well as Ambulance and Police. Emmaville RFS Crews on scene were carrying out investigations as 302 arrived and determined an electrical fire had occurred in the ceiling that had started from a burnt out ballast in a fluorescent light unit in a hallway. Approximately 30 people were evacuated from the building while firefighters confirmed that the fire was out and the building could be ventilated and atmospheric testing carried out before giving the all clear for staff and patients to return. Thanks to Inverell 331 Fire and Rescue NSW for providing fire coverage for the town while both of our appliances attended this incident.

Tonight is our last night responding from our 508 station on Kent St. As of tomorrow mor...ning 23/7/2020 we will be responding from the brand new South Tamworth 448 Fire Station on Ringers Rd. While it is as sad a time as it is happy for the firefighters attatched to 508 we are all very excited to be working at a brand new state of the art Fire Station. There have been many memories at the 508 station over the last 51 years as we have responded to thousands of calls from West Tamworth which have resulted in a very thorough, professional and tight knit crew. We cannot wait to see what the future holds as we start our next chapter at South Tamworth 448 station. While there will be a few changes to the public eye from the change of the names and numbers on our fire appliances and also a change to our facebook name, but rest assured we will always continue to offer the same prompt and professional service that we always have. Thank you to all the people in our community that have supported 508 over the years and we look forward to continuing protecting and educating the community as Fire Fighters at South Tamworth 448.
