23.01.2022 SOLAR PANEL FIRES | We are urging residents with solar panels to remain aware and vigilant after an influx in solar panel fires this year. This footage was obta...ined from a neighbour in Glenwood who called Triple Zero (000) after noticing a house nearby had solar panels alight. This was one of six solar panel fires that Fire and Rescue NSW attended in the past week alone. These statistics show solar panel fires are up 20 percent compared to last year and continuing to rise. Isolation switches appear to be causing almost half of solar panel fires, so it is vital to ensure solar panels are installed and regularly maintained by a professional and that systems comply with Australian Standards. Always do a licence check with NSW Fair Trading before any installation and wiring takes place. This can be found at https://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au//during-th/solar-panels. #MoreThanFire #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #PreparedForAnything

23.01.2022 Hopefully we don’t get too many opportunities this season to see this big girl, but here are her Specs and facts

19.01.2022 Just a shout out to a local hero. Paul Bounds is a firefighter at Fire and Rescue NSW Station 418 Paxton, who had only just completed a refresher course in BLS (basic life support). He recognised his father in law was having a heart attack and reacted quickly, saving his life. Paul is a long time firefighter with Fire and Rescue NSW at Paxton 418 and a great guy to work with. We’re proud to know this guy. It’s never to late to learn CPR. All fire and Rescue vehicles carry a defib machine and are trained in First Aid. Call 000 for all emergencies

19.01.2022 We remember They gave their tomorrow’s so we could have today

19.01.2022 For Monday 23rd November Temps around 35C and hot dry winds 40-60kmh. As a result of this the Fire Danger Rating will be VERY HIGH. All Fire Permits are automatically suspended for 24hrs till midnight tonight.

18.01.2022 Today, October 1st, the statutory Bushfire Danger Period kicks off in the Lower Hunter. October 1 is the official start of the statutory bushfire danger period ...for 2020, and the NSW Rural Fire Service is calling on Lower Hunter residents to prepare for the fire season now. RFS Lower Hunter district manager Superintendent Martin Siemsen (pictured) is urging residents to complete a bushfire survival plan and ensure all members of the household know what to do on days of increased fire danger and if their home is threatened by fire. Residents should prepare their property by removing flammable materials from their yards, clearing gutters of leaves, checking hoses and, where appropriate, conducting hazard reduction activities. "While it is important to continue hazard reduction we have all seen the devastation that bushfires can bring to a community, so I strongly urge people to exercise caution when carrying out these activities. Residents can ask their local Fire Control Centre for assistance in carrying out safe hazard reductions and for advice about whether they need a Bush Fire Hazard Reduction Certificate. With summer conditions becoming more conducive to the spread of fire, people need to be extremely careful when using fire. Never leave a fire unattended and if a fire does escape, it is essential to call Triple Zero (000) immediately so that emergency services can respond accordingly and minimise the damage", Superintendent Siemsen said. From today, anyone wishing to light a fire in the Cessnock, Maitland, Dungog or Port Stephens local government areas will require a permit. On days of Total Fire Ban, all permits for burning in the open are automatically revoked. To check the fire danger ratings for your area, visit rfs.nsw.gov.au or contact the Lower Hunter Fire Control Centre on 4015 0000 during business hours. The bushfire danger period is already underway in some parts of the state, with six LGAs in the north-west of the state starting on August 1, and another 21 (including the Singleton, Muswellbrook and Upper Hunter shires) from September 1. 13.01.2022 We were called to assist in at Sandgate, Shortland, Adamstown and Kooragang Island tonight after a quick major storm ripped through areas leaving a wake of trees down on vehicles and houses. Power lines down and lightning strikes. Was a busy night for 344. Huge thanks and appreciation goes to our Fire Comms operators. You guys rock, you got smashed and you handled it with complete professionalism and got resources where they were needed. It was certainly mayhem for a while on the ground and on the radio. Fire and Rescue NSW

08.01.2022 Feel free to share this post. The more people out there who know that Kearsley and other local Fire and Rescues stations are now recruiting, the better. Someone you know could be our next recruit

06.01.2022 Car with a ruptured fuel tank near the Kearsley Auto Port this afternoon, leaking fuel into the gutter. We neded to put booms in place to stop fuel reaching the drain. Used Spagsorb to absorb fuel in the gutter, then jacked the vehicle up, chocked it with wooden blocks we carry, and was able to get under it to block a significant hole in the fuel tank with Denso putty. Thanks to everyone who slowed down and gave us room to work on the side of the road.

04.01.2022 Do you recognise anyone in this photo? I checked our mail box this morning, not something we do regularly because we don’t get mail regularly. Inside our mail box though was a phone Yep, you heard me, a phone. So I charged it up enough to turn it on. But only being a firefighter but not a tech savvy firefighter, I could only reach this screen without a passcode. So, if you recognise the phone or the photo on the screen saver, please give me a call on 49902526, I’m happy to return it. Owner will need to know the passcode to unlock it before it’s handed over.
