24.01.2022 Welcome to Open Day 2020! Normally, we would launch our Open Day with the very special kids at Westmead Children Hospital Burns Unit. We were unable to do that ...this year, but we did take them on a virtual tour through our busiest fire station Fire and Rescue NSW Station 001 City of Sydney which you can watch in the video below. We'd love to share some good wishes with the kids, so leave a comment below and we will pass it on! Open Day has always been our most popular day on the calendar and for good reason. By opening our station doors every year and inviting you in, it gives us a chance to chat about who we are and what we do here at Fire and Rescue NSW. This year we’ve had to rethink the traditional and do things a little differently so while we couldn’t open the station doors to you, we are doing the next best thing and bringing the station to you! So, thanks for joining us, and we hope to see you and speak with you throughout the next week! #FRNSWOpenDay2020 #PreparedForAnything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #MoreThanFire

14.01.2022 During last summers bush fires our crews worked with volunteer RFS crews from around the Manning/Taree area. Last week the small community of Killabakh woke to the sad news of the passing of their RFS Captain Ian Scarr. A man with a huge heart and who was well respected, his passing is a huge loss to the local area. We would like to pass on our condolences to Ian's family and the whole Killabakh community. To his great mate Phil Howell, who lives here on the Coast, our thoughts go out to you during this difficult time. Rest in Peace Ian.

10.01.2022 Come with us for a crawling stumble through a fire- ‘cause let’s face it, it’s not like the movies. It’s so hot you can’t stand, the smoke and the steam obscure... you vision. Your hose line gets held up on a multitude of unidentifiable items and your partner is scanning with a thermal imaging camera behind you as you work your way forward. We’re looking for the seat of the fire, and we’re doing search and rescue at the same time; and sending a conditions report to the Incident Controller because all the pieces of information from every crew give them a greater understanding of the fire behaviour we are seeing. If you are in there, we are looking for you. If it’s your home or business, we’re trying to save it. Help us out. Put in some smoke detectors, keep looking when cooking, don’t put anything closer than a meter to the heater and make an evacuation plan- please, make sure this winter you know the risks. #PreparedForAnything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #firesafety #winterfiresafety #firefighter #firetruck #frnsw #turningout

02.01.2022 A call on Wednesday night saw our crew turn out to a house fire in Avoca Beach. Upon arrival our boys were met by Louise, her fiancee Mark and puppy Gryffindor. Fortunately the fire was only small and quickly extinguished but it was their actions that impressed our firefighters the most. After seeing the fire, they immediately called 000, left the house and waited safely outside for the emergency crews to arrive. It was a perfect example of what to do. Always remember... * c...all triple zero (000) * plan with your family a safe meeting place outside (eg mailbox) * Do NOT under any circumstance go back into the building to retrieve valuables or pets.
