25.01.2022 In the wake of the bushfires, COVID-19 Pandemic and now the Recession, the Federal Government have announced that they are raising the number of sessions in the Mental Health Care Plan from 10 to 20 sessions per year, for an initial two-year period. This is an incredible result! For those unfamiliar with a mental health treatment plan and how it actually works, you must go to your local GP and talk to your doctor about what’s been going on. It helps to be as open and honest a...s possible. If eligible, the GP will prepare a mental health treatment plan before referring you to a psychologist of your choosing. You can then access up to 20 Medicare-subsidised sessions during a calendar year. You should book a longer appointment with your GP to enable time for this. If anyone has any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

21.01.2022 Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear. -- Nelson Mandela Take Austrian Skydiver, Daredevil, and Base Jumper ‘Fearless’ Felix Baumgartner who jumped from the Edge of Space. It almost didn’t happen. Whilst I imagine there were certain pressures in knowing that the whole world was watching, the one thing that almost stopped Felix dead in his tracks was Claustrophobia, yes Cl...austrophobia, the fear of confined spaces, brought on by his pressurised suit and helmet. After all his past exploits, all the extreme things he had done over his career, nobody would have guessed that Felix would be brought to his hands and knees by simply wearing a space suit. In the end, it turned into panic attacks, a fight-or-flight urge to escape. Felix had found his limit and now needed assistance to go beyond it. He acquired the help of a Psychologist and by his side, he developed the practical skills and knowhow needed to better manage his Claustrophobia, and the rest is history. Felix would go on to break World Records and earn the respect of his peers and the world over. "Each of us must confront our own fears, must come face to face with them. How we handle our fears will determine where we go with the rest of our lives. To experience adventure or to be limited by the fear of it. -- Judy Blume

20.01.2022 It’s not hard to understand why so many people dream of becoming professional athletes. The glory, the glamour, the fame and the fortune. But what are their odds of actually making it? According to International Performance Coach Roger Rasheed, for every athlete who makes it to the top of the hill, the sheer carnage on the side of the road is enormous. He says the more an athlete can be open and honest about what they are really going through, the better off they will be. 04.01.2022 Controversial Aussie tennis star Nick Kyrgios has spoken publicly about his battle with depression. His story reminds us that mental ill health can affect anyone, regardless of social standing and achievements in life. Kyrgios, a polarising figure both on and off the tennis court, admits he has been in a lonely, dark place due to the isolating schedule of professional tennis players. A lot of people were putting pressure on me, I put a lot of pressure on myself, Kyrgios ...told Stellar magazine. I just lost joy for the game and I was spiralling out of control. I fell into depression because of the things I thought I had to be. I was afraid to go out and talk to people because I thought I’d let them down because I wasn’t winning matches. Kyrgios recalled one day at an event in Shanghai where he could not get out of bed. When I was struggling and it wasn’t just about tennis there were moments when I was seriously depressed. I remember waking up in Shanghai one year and it was 4pm and I was still in bed, curtains closed. I didn’t want to see the light of day, he revealed. I didn’t feel like I could trust anyone. It was a lonely, dark place. I don’t think people understand how lonely tennis can be. You’re out there on the court on your own. You can’t really talk to anyone. You have to figure things out for yourself. I did struggle with that. Reported by Catherine Healey.

But what is less known about Roger is that he was a gifted tennis player himself, forced out of the game by a crippling back and spinal injury. With his dream of becoming a professional tennis player in ruins, Roger was left with a choice: let it... define you, let it destroy you, or let it strengthen you. Roger picked himself up and in a remarkable display of human resilience, turned to coaching where he would not only excel in his new role, but find international success in the process. Of all his extraordinary achievements, his proudest accomplishment by far is his daughter. Roger walked away from being a full-time coach, constantly on the road, to be with his daughter, because anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad.
