19.01.2022 New Home For Developing Sprintcar Drivers In WA [Press Release, 17.04.20] A new series has been developed to replace the current 360 Power Series, called the SA...WA Sprintcar Series. The mission statement of the new SAWA Sprintcar Series reads simply provide an opportunity for new and lower funded Sprintcar competitors to race across WA in a competitive but fun affordable environment. The SAWA Sprintcar Series is aimed at new/ lower budget 410 competitors and 360 competitors who wish to develop their skills before venturing up to the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series. An eight round series for the inaugural season is proposed with all tracks based within 250km of Perth, to keep it affordable for competitors. We understand this is a big change for competitors and many will be seeking answers to questions. Further information on formats, handicap system, rules and driver eligibility will be made clear during an online forum to be held in May that interested competitors and team owners may attend. 07.01.2022 PEOPLE WHO TOUCH YOUR LIFE JUST BY BEING THEMSELVES... I'm so conflicted. I feel sad but I also feel proud and so very grateful. This truly remarkable man, the ...head of the Bradford dynasty, passed away last night. "The Big Chap" Noel Bradford now joins his amazing son and beautiful granddaughter in the big wheat field in the sky. I feel so sad for his beautiful wife, the Queen of Ballidu Gwenny. I feel so sad for his truly incredible family - a tree of incredibly strong and beautiful branches who are powerful, colourful, charismatic and respected and with roots that are deep in the earth and have weathered decades of storms. I feel so proud of the legacy that Noel and Gwen have built. I feel so proud of the name they have in the farming and Speedway industry. And throughout Western Australia. "The Bradfords." Just saying those two words brings a smile to your face and an immediate thought of respect. It's a name of honour, integrity and success yet at the same time humility. Noel is a gentleman (I detest saying WAS in moments like these). A gentle giant known throughout the country as "The Big Chap" who wheeled the many #57's with the guile of a badass but still managed the tricky the balance of a gentlemen on and off the dirt. I feel so proud of the family that Noel and Gwen Bradford created. Of the ingrained beautiful way they conducted themselves and the way they deal with people. They are the kind of people you expect to see in an Adam Brand video clip. The quintessential Aussie farming family. They never shy away from hard work, from adversity, from a cold beer or from anyone who needs them. I feel so grateful for any one time that I have spent with Noel and felt so very honoured any time he even spoke to me, let alone shook my hand and had a chat. I also feel so grateful for the friendships I have with this truly beautiful family. Noel you are one of life's most wonderful figures. Nobody has a bad word to say about you. As a racer or a person. Sending my love and my thoughts to all of the Bradfords today and every day forward. This week will be tough. I hope that everyone can keep in the front of their minds that Noel affected everyone he met in such a profoundly positive and special way. He had a presence, albeit a gentle one, just being around. Only legends have that. God Speed Noel Bradford. And THANK YOU. There's a big tractor and Sprintcar today in Heaven. Driven by 'The big chap' who's the King of the Number 57. 06.01.2022 Generations... The Krikke Dynasty continues. This little guy is probably going to ride pushbikes long distances, follow a second rate football team and wheel an...d deal in the car industry I'm guessing in the future. I didn't get very long to capture this moment as little Mason gave me a very quick window to capture the 'cheeeeeese' and we were done. "You won't get long," Ryan warned me as I aimed for the shot. He was right. It's a privilege to be around for moments like this, taken in a truck and in a team that is both iconic and means so incredibly much to so many people including myself. I really enjoyed seeing the pride in Ryan and Pete's eyes when they watch this little human whirlwind. Poppy, Mason and Ryan... 04.01.2022 It's not what this weekend is about. Yet sadly it is. The Krikke Boys Shootout is one of Australian Speedway's most iconic and long standing Sprintcar races. It...'s just a shame it even came about. The race started nearly 23 years ago when two young men in the prime of their lives died on the side of the highway. They were less than half an hour away from their homes. Darryl and Jason Krikke were returning to Bunbury after a night at Claremont Speedway when they crashed and lost their lives. In a tragic and cruel irony their Dads Ron and John Krikke were the first car on the scene. That's the bit I can't comprehend. People sadly die in car crashes all the time - it's a sad and cruel part of everyday life. But why Jason's Dad John and the boys cousin Ryan had to find their sons like that will never make sense to me. We all drive past crosses on the side of the road. Sometimes you see them, sometimes you don't. But they're always there. Do we even give it a second thought? Sometimes we do. Sometimes we get a shiver. Sometimes it wakes us up if we're starting to feel drowsy. But most times a roadside cross blends in like a gum tree. Last night, as we drove towards Bunbury my sons Connor, Darcy and I began to near 'the spot'. I pulled over and took Bear and Dar to the crosses, and told them the story. Today, I had them stand with RK and his Aussie title winning #1 car and felt an enormous sense of gratitude for the part Ronny, Johnny, Peter, Julie, Shane, Jode, Ryan, Taylor, Michelle, Nolene and the wider Krikke family have played in my life for well over 25 years.. This weekend, nearly twenty five years on, the gathering of the Sprintcar community in the beautiful southwest town of Bunbury is always the same. It's about fierce competition. About a sizeable winner's cheque. About passion, anger, grit, courage and speed. Lots of speed. Underlying it all though is the tragedy that created it in the first place. It's not the focus but it needs to remain relevant. As an industry the Speedway community travels enormous long distance miles often through the dead of night. We still take chances. We still push the boundaries to get home to our own beds. We still risk it. You might not. But I know plenty of us that do. Darryl and Jason had their entire lives in front of them. It's fair to say they were pushing it hard. Very hard that night. It ended in the worst possible way imaginable. Today, the memory of 'the boys' is celebrated and the spirit of the Krikke way of life is always front and centre. We race hard. We party just as hard later. We gather to remember. And to remind ourselves that, whilst we might take it beyond the absolute limit on track, there's a sizeable limit outside North Boyanup Rd that needs respect. I looked at Ron Krikke today. He's maintained that legendary Bunbury Bullet swagger, as has his loveable larrikin brother John. Whilst we can say that it's fantastic that the Krikke family are bonded by their love of Speedway and their love of a good time Ron and John are tragically bonded by something that just isn't right. They had to bury their sons on the same day. The boys' families pulled through, somehow - that's part of their steely unwavering Dutch resolve. But for a long time they didn't. And three years ago, when Shane Krikke passed from cancer, those waves came crashing back to shore. It was like a tsunami that made it all so hard to overcome all over again. I love this weekend for how we embrace it. I detest it for why we ended up here in the first place. And I'll always love the Krikke family for how they dusted themselves off, stood back up and arched their backs into the wind. Be careful on the roads please everyone. Take that extra half an hour, that power nap, that red bull or cup of coffee or even that extra motel room. Take that extra care of yourselves. For the boys... 01.01.2022 COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS TO BE SIGNIFICANTLY LIFTED IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA The Western Australian State Government have today announced further easing of COVID-19 re...strictions with Phase Four of the roadmap to recovery to be implemented from this Saturday 27th June 2020. Things will be eased even further from Saturday 18th July 2020 with Phase Five coming into effect which will see the removal of every restriction with the exception of the hard border to the other states and territories. The news has been welcomed by the many Speedway clubs and associations across the state with racing already recommencing in the last two weekends during phase three restrictions which allowed gatherings of up to three hundred people. From this Saturday 27th June 2020 the two square metre per person rule remains with limits for gatherings to be removed completely with the exception of large sporting staduims which can operate at fifty percent capacity. A number of Speedway venues in Western Australia had tentatively scheduled race meetings during the month of July which will now be able to go ahead without the concern of gathering restrictions. The 33rd Annual Far Western Championships to be held at the Shark Bay Speedway on Saturday 11th July 2020 already has a bumper line up of Speedway Sedans Australia categories entered with today's news a welcome boost for the event.
