18.01.2022 This morning I visited North Metropolitan TAFE to meet the future faces of civil construction in WA. The students are among the first to complete the new training course Infrastructure Ready preparing them for jobs on METRONET and Main Roads WA projects. The course is the result of a discussion I had with the Director General of Transport about the need for more innovative programs to encourage people into civil construction.... With the collaboration of the new Office of Major Transport Infrastructure Delivery and TAFE, we developed this new course. Applicants undertake an intensive 4-week course, including hands-on experience on construction sites, and are then offered jobs on some of our major projects. I met so many inspiring people with incredible stories. For anyone who aspires to a career in civil construction, this is an excellent foot in the door: https://www.northmetrotafe.wa.edu.au//infrastructure-ready
17.01.2022 This week the one-off WA Household Electricity Credit will start appearing on power bills. It will be applied to all residential accounts over the November-December billing cycle, and it will mean WA families have a bit of extra money available in the lead up to Christmas. All residential customers current as of 4 October qualify for the credit. ... If you have a Synergy or Horizon Power account, the amount will appear automatically on your next power bill. If you pay for your electricity through a different provider, you can apply to receive the credit at www.wa.gov.au/energycredit
14.01.2022 Today I joined the Bailey’s to officially open the Bailey Brewing Co. right here in the Swan Valley. A new family run business in the Valley, with a great nature playground for the kids. Plus they donate all funds raised through the container deposit scheme to charity. It was fantastic to see owners of surrounding businesses, like Duckstein Brewery and the Henley Brook supporting this new venture and all working together to promote tourism in the Valley.

12.01.2022 A few months ago I visited the sealing works underway on Goldfields Highway between Wiluna and Meekatharra with Kyle McGinn MLC. This was part of a pilot program to seal five kilometres of the road and sought to maximise the employment of Aboriginal people and businesses. 12 Martu workers took part in comprehensive training at the Martu-ku Yiwarra Training Centre and then worked on the project. ... I had the pleasure of meeting many of those workers when I visited the site at the end of July the pride shown by those young trainees, and the elders who were also present, was extremely gratifying.

11.01.2022 Just weeks ago we signed the main construction contract for the Morley-Ellenbrook line. Today Premier Mark McGowan and I visited the MEL rail enabling works that are now underway along the Tonkin Highway median as part of the Tonkin Gap Project. This is a significant step in delivering on our election commitment of building the Morley Ellenbrook Line and will create thousands of local jobs.... There will be significant traffic management and inconvenience over the coming years however doing the enabling works and highway upgrades under one contract will mean less disruption further down the track. I thank everyone in advance for their patience.
11.01.2022 It was a pleasure to release the Pickering Brook Taskforce phase one report with Matthew Hughes today. Growing up in Roleystone I know how important this area is. Today’s report is an exciting first step in helping to secure the future economic development for the Pickering Brook region.... While we want to support growth in this beautiful region, we don’t want to damage the character and rural lifestyle that makes this place so attractive. The report was completed by an independent working group which considered the possible expansion of the Pickering Brook townsite , while also examining economic development options including growing tourism while protecting valuable agriculture land. Work on part 2 of the initiative is already underway. To find out more visit: https://www.dplh.wa.gov.au/pickering-brook
