19.01.2022 Looking for some Saturday fun??? Why not try this one!!

18.01.2022 The new map of #NamadgiSchool at Kambah, produced by Alex and Jonathan Ricks, proved to be an excellent venue for Sunday’s event #8 in the second ACT Sprint Series. The 3.4 km courses (variants 1 and 2) were planned, remotely COVID-19 style, by Ian Lawford. The maps are included at the start of this album. The results by course are at https://act.orienteering.asn.au/event/results/splits/10293 and the sequence of controls is in the order of Course 2 and splits for Course... 1 have been shuffled into the same order to enable comparison of splits. Given the disparity in split times on some legs, some of the 83 competitors obviously had problems navigating through and around the fences, the common third leg is an example, with Thomas Krajca being fastest to the third control and he ended up dead-heating with Mark Bourne for first in 19 min 11 sec, with Paul de Jongh third in 19 min 48 sec. Shannon Jones was the fastest woman in 23 min 28 sec, from Marina Iskhakova in 26 min 51 sec and Ana Herceg in 27 min 50 sec. The action photos were the best that could be salvaged from a poor photographic performance on the day. A number of photos of the gardens, etc, which competitors may not have noticed, have been added, plus the Valiant ute.

18.01.2022 Results for today's event at Stromlo Forest Park are now on the OACT website at https://act.orienteering.asn.au/eventor/results/splits/10496 and on Eventor at https://eventor.orienteering.asn.au/Events/Show/10496 - About 38 results are missing because a computer problem. We are trying to see is we can recover the lost information. Our apologies for the mishap.

13.01.2022 A terrific resource for orienteers of all ages and abilities.

12.01.2022 Pat Miethke and Lawrie Brown put a lot of effort into creating a very good MapRun smartphone/smartwatch option and there was a high takeup by participants.Martin Dent made his first street O appearance for the season keen to test out MapRunG on his smartwatch, with Shannon Jones coincidentally also doing the same, as well as Elye Dent. After an initial hiccup getting the upload working, Martin sped around the hilly A course in 33.44, covering 8.4 km. Andrew Slattery was 2nd i...n 42.41 and David Alder and Leroy Dickie equal 3rd in 48.00. Shannon Jones had to dog leg back to pick up a control she initially missed, extending her distance to 8.8 km, but clocking a fast 45.23, with Amelia Walton 2nd female in 52.27 after running 8.65 km. The mighty Ken Mansell ran a sizzling 29.15 for the 15 control B course, covering 6.1 km, with Andrew Johnson pipping Tenzing Johnson 35.50 to 36.36. Melissa Clarke again won Women's B, running 6.9 km to clock 35.37, with Carol Harding running 40.28 (6.15km) and Ellen Johnson 42.08 (6.0 km). Matt Shadwell with 30.50 and Sue Gar with 33.59 were best on the 12 control C course. Ann Ingwersen in 35.51, Mary Bullock in 37.02 (3.6km) and Lyn Alder in 41.00 were best on the D course (8 controls). Considering the hilliness of the suburb and the warm weather, the walk performances were astounding. In the men's walk Bruce Barnett bagged 17 controls, Keith Fifield 16 and Michael Burt 15, while in the women's walk both Michelle Cochrane and Rosemarie Edwards got 14 and Lorraine Tomlins 12. Results at https://eventor.orienteering.asn.au/Events/ResultList Next Monday is at Kambah East. See more
