25.01.2022 We are currently updating our website with a refreshed logo and looking at the back end of the website, it reminds me how this little practice has stood the test of time. I started Let’s eat 7 years ago and this week, we reached 4500 followers. Sometimes it’s nice to stop and review where you are. We have supported so many families, laughed a lot and celebrated so many feeding goals achieved for countless kids. This year, Ashleigh joined Let’s eat and the practice has never ...been busier, we have a workshop with over 100 people attending in 2 weeks with many local speech pathology and occupational therapists joining us, we have a new logo and some awesome plans for 2021 that I can’t wait to tell you about soon. Thank you for reaching out, for recommending us to your friends and on FB mother’s groups. And to all our supporters- clients, family and friends who follow us on FB, like and share our posts. We thank you for your endless love and kindness Val and Ash #letseatspeech #letseatfeeding #feedingtherapists

25.01.2022 We are doing it again this year! Building a suitcase for children in foster care. I never knew until I met Rachael from @hopeinasuitcase how little children walk away with (in plastic bags) when taken into foster care. This year, Rachael is putting together backpacks for little children living out of home care in remote Aboriginal communities. This is a list of the final things she needs. Something super important to support during NAIDOC week. ... If you can contribute anything on that list- drop it off at our clinic. The team from Let’s eat! And Early Start speech pathology are gathering up the final items to send to Rach by the end of the first week in December. Or you can make up your own suitcase for children locally here in NSW. Here is the website for more info-www.hopeinasuitcase.com.au FB page- https://m.facebook.com/bringing.hope.in.a.suitcase/?tsid=0.4916576697328594&source=result Val- Let’s Eat! 25.01.2022 Can you believe that it’s 7 days until Christmas? Goodness what a year. Ash and I have celebrated with facials, cocktails by the beach, wreath making with our Early Start colleagues and generally having silly ol’ fun with our little clients in the clinic. We want to thank you all for your support this year. Ash will be back on Monday 11th Jan and I will be back on 19th Jan 2021 for busy booked out clinics and holiday cooking clubs with our Ability Focus Ot colleagues.... In the meantime, if you know of an amazing Speech Pathologist or Occupational Therapist looking for part time work starting in February 2021, then send them our way! Have a safe and very Merry Christmas Val and Ash #letseatfeeding #letseatspeech

25.01.2022 Less than a week until we present to over 140 feeding professionals around Australia. 2 days, 55 videos, 8 feeding programs, 3 philosophes and talking about what I love most - supporting babies and children with feeding difficulties. Have an awesome weekend! Val

23.01.2022 Wishing everyone a wonderful, safe and very Merry Christmas. Back in 2013, we wrote a blog post on Christmas foods and supporting your child with their eating. It’s an oldie but a goodie. See what you think- https://www.letseatspeech.com.au//help-child-f%EF%BB%BFus/... See you in 2021 xo Val and Ash

22.01.2022 Does your child try something a food once and then refuse it? This blog post is for you - practice makes perfect. Hope you had a lovely weekend! Val https://www.letseatspeech.com.au/bl/practice-makes-perfect/

20.01.2022 We had the cutest munchkin explore the new @littlebellies organic baby bowls this week. As you know, paediatric feeding speech pathologists are not fans of purée that is sucked from a pouch. And with developing taste buds, we also want babies to taste real vegetables not vegetables mixed with fruit in pouches. The new Little Bellies organic products were released in early September. And this bubba enjoyed tasting and exploring the new purée- his dad and my floor also wore som...e of it! Starting solids is about exploring different flavours (purée and finger foods) with spoons and lots of mess! Isn’t he the cutest? Home made when you can and store bought when you need that added help and convenience. I put the company link in the comments tab. Enjoy messy food exploration with your baby! 17.01.2022 It’s been a huge 2 days! Thank you to all the attendees who laughed and learned with us. Thank you to the attendees in the room in Sydney that patiently waited while the live streaming attendees linked in. Thank you to the live streaming attendees who patiently navigated the challenges of live streaming. Our super interactive case study workshop was not without its challenges.... Thank you to Chad from StreamingHouse for working so hard to ensure all videos played, speakers tuned in and managed all the tech and feeding questions. He did not eat a full meal for 2 days. I know the attendees had tech issues but if they could have seen him- he worked so so hard to make it possible! Thank you to my colleague and co-host Deb, you are my yin to my yang. Nothing more to say my dear friend. To all the speakers- for sharing so openly and giving up your time for us- we are so grateful. Ash for running around with all the extra jobs we gave her. And most of all, to the parents and children who shared their stories with us, I thank you from the bottom of my heart - without you, we couldn’t inspire and support feeding professionals to be the amazing therapists that they are. Have a wonderful and safe weekend Val - #letseatspeech #letseatfeeding #feedingtherapyaustralia

16.01.2022 Always lovely to fundraise for this amazing cause. Thanks @Early Start Speech Pathology and @Ability Focus Occupational therapy for joining us again this year. Listening to Rachael from @hope in a suitcase describe the situations in why she is called to support with suitcases and backpacks, Ash and I were reminded that this time more than any is a time to reach out and help. It could be as big or as little as you like- whatever you can do. Reach out everyone- knock on the d...oor of a neighbour and drop off some groceries or just stay for a cuppa and a chat. Human connection is so important. Happy Thursday PS- thank you to my connect bible study for also contributing. Your immediate offer to help was so appreciated.

12.01.2022 Goodness it’s getting warm in Australia! As we get into this hot weather, it’s a good time to check in with your kids about their water intake. I like the tips on this website- it’s a US based site so it uses ounces but it’s strategies and tips are great.... https://www.google.com.au//hydration-tip-for-your-childs-h

12.01.2022 Just a reminder to all the attendees from around Australia who attended our Feeding Workshop last week- we have sent you a google forms doc to let us know what recorded modules you would like to see again (this is for the live streaming attendees only who had difficulties with tech). Your form needs to be submitted TODAY!! If you haven’t received it- please email us [email protected]... Thanks everyone Val and Debbie Feeding Therapy Australia

11.01.2022 Spent last night speaking to some wonderful early childhood nurses and Dieitians with my good friend Dr Jane Watson from Ethos Health. Thanks Michelle from @Nestle for asking us to speak! 11.01.2022 Hi everyone We have had a flurry of NDIS referrals this week - thank you for your interest. NDIS is always a bit confusing especially when as a business we have only completed verification so we have created a visual to help navigate how to access us if your child is on the NDIS scheme.... I'm on leave until school goes back now but Ash will be in clinic next week. Stay tuned for her FB posts. Have a safe and restful school holiday break, Val

06.01.2022 Graduation food certificates going out this week for children who have achieved all of their feeding goals and are being discharged. I always (!!) get teary writing their certificates with a paragraph about why I’m so proud of them and their achievements. This amazing 12 year old cooked the pasta meal for his parents and I today. Mixed textures (meat and vegetables) in red tomato based sauces (family meals) were his parents biggest goals and today- he cooked the meal and the...n devoured it. He was so proud of himself and we were so proud of him. The world is their oyster now for kids like these, Ash and I are so honoured to be part of their food journey. More certificates coming this week- man these kids make me so happy! Val

06.01.2022 How I love kids cutlery- I was recently at the House shop at Kotara Westfield (opposite Woolworths) - for those who are local. And found these kids knives at the front counter. They have a sharper and stronger blade and are perfect knives for older primary school aged kids. I sometimes find the other available kids knives are better for preschoolers. Check it out if you’re looking for a similar knife. $12 Happy cooking! ... Val See more

06.01.2022 Over the coming days, you will see a very exciting new change for our practice. 1. A logo refresh (isn’t the kangaroo cute?) 2. An updated name - from Let’s Eat! Paediatric speech pathology to Let’s Eat! Feeding therapy. ... Same business, same team and same clinic - just aligned closer with what we do- supporting babies and children with feeding difficulties. The current website www.letseatspeech.com.au will slowly migrate to www.letseatfeeding.com.au but both domain names will work. Same for emails- they will continue to sync with each other so we ensure that the transition is smooth for everyone. We hope you like the updated logo and name! It’s been such a surprise that we have been holding for so long. Thank you to @melindaholmedesigns for the logo and @jasonlynch for all the tech behind the scenes with the website. Couldn’t have done it without your creative and talented brains. Thank you x Val and Ash

04.01.2022 BLOG POST UP! TOPIC: Starting solids We get so many questions on this topic that this week, I've written a post on "parent led weaning" including when to offer solids, what to offer texture wise and when to consider further help. ... In my next blog post, I will talk about "baby led" and then I will finish on "child led weaning" with my top tips on selecting highchairs, cups and our favourite baby equipment. Let me know your thoughts and send me any questions you would like to be discussed in the blog posts. Hope you have a lovely week, Ash https://www.letseatspeech.com.au//starting-solids-parent-/

03.01.2022 The school holidays are a perfect time to work on different skills with food. This week I had so much fun across four appointments with one of my clients. - we went to Woolworths and chose new food options to try that were safe for her oral motor skills. I supported her to make choices between items as we worked on expanding her food variety. - We met at McDonalds, used the fun touch screen ordering system (great for a child who uses a visual communication device) and sat t...ogether for a meal - We did two cooking sessions at home making delicious and simple blender chocolate mousse and beetroot dip And what was the over-arching goal we were working on? Building independence and opportunities for social connection. Eating isn’t just about chewing and swallowing, it’s a important for building self care skills and social experience (think of how often your social catch ups with friends and family are around food) I’m so proud of this beautiful client! Val and I are always happy to chat to our families about creative ways to target goals and breaking up visits to the clinic. For new families needing support, we’d love to see you and have spaces available. Call our wonderful secretary Glynis (4940 6515) for an appointment. Take care this weekend, Ash
