25.01.2022 A Barney update and it is great to see him out of his crate. Here is Barney celebrating the excellent report he received at his two week check from Dr Avinder at Lower Plenty Veterinary Clinic. Dr Avinder performed Barney's cruciate surgery and GRR is so grateful for his expertise and generosity in the treatment of all the GRR foster dogs who arrive at this clinic. Whether it's a health check or surgery GRR is assured that the rescues are in excellent hands. It has also been noticed by Dr Avinder that when a Goldie comes in for treatment his wonderful nursing staff are missing in action, although, they are not hard to find as they are always cuddling up to the Goldies who visit. Thank you Dr Avinder and all of the caring team at Lower Plenty Veterinary Clinic.

24.01.2022 Here’s an update on Barney to brighten up your Sunday. Because of your generosity Barney’s cruciate surgery took place on the 6th November and he is undergoing his recovery and rehabilitation at the home of his foster carers. His foster carers advise that Barney’s recovery is going really well and he is enjoying short periods of time pottering on lead and is happy to return to his crate to spend time with his favourite toy. Barney is on his way to a pain free regular Goldie life.

23.01.2022 Yesterday GRR asked for your help in opposing the development of two breeding kennels in South Australia. Today an update has been received from the Adelaide Plains Council advising that NEVER before has there been so many emails in opposition on any application. Adelaide Plains Council received 330 emails in opposition to the development application.... WELL DONE EVERYBODY. However, these applications may still be approved so the public need to be informed not to purchase puppies from Pet Shops or the Internet from sources such as Gumtree otherwise known in the rescue business as Scumtree) or Trading Post and certainly not from facilities that house hundreds of dogs for breeding purposes for the sole reason of making money. GRR is often accused of being elitest when advising that people should purchase from a Registered Breeder. All of us at GRR, all those who transport and foster have this response for those people..... "walk a mile in our shoes", take care of a shutdown dog who can only eat from food placed on the ground because they do not know how to eat from a bowl, see a dog run away from you while urinating in fear, lift a dog into a car while it claws at you in fear, care for these dogs through the eradication of whip worm, hook worm and gastric ulcers, clean out yeast infected ears and spend a great deal of money and many, many hours, weeks and months showing these girls from "breeding facilities" that they are being given the time and space to become the dogs that they were always meant to be. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO EMAILED THEIR OPPOSITION. WE'LL KEEP YOU UPDATED. See more

22.01.2022 GRR IS ASKING FOR YOUR HELP TODAY. We have recently been made aware of an application for the development of two breeding kennels in South Australia. These two applications are for containment of up to THREE HUNDRED DOGS.....YES, THAT'S CORRECT.......300 BREEDING DOGS. ...Continue reading

16.01.2022 All of the these gorgeous Golden have previously been placed in Victoria and as the GRR Committee has been keeping apace of the Covid-19 cases and restrictions being eased in Victoria, GRR is pleased to advise that we will begin to contact people to make arrangements for property inspections for adoptions and foster care where appropriate. Dianne Hanby, the Victorian Director, will coordinate the inspections and these inspections will only be conducted within the GR Covid Saf...ety Policy, to ensure the safety and well being of all our GRR volunteers. Currently, GRR is at an all time low with the number of rescues in care and while there are dogs in foster care, these dogs are either in rehabilitation from surgery or assessed as not yet ready to take their place in their forever home. GRR looks forward to continuing to help the rescue Goldies find their forever homes in Victoria and also in NSW.

15.01.2022 November the 6th was a big day for Barney as his cruciate surgery was scheduled and took place with the vet reporting that Barney's surgery went very well. Barney is now back with his foster family recovering from the surgery all comfy in his crate with his favourite teddy to keep him company and now the... work for his foster family begins. This gorgeous boy doesn't have any idea that today he started on his journey to living a pain free Golden life. See more

14.01.2022 Two year old Brewster is GRR's honorary Golden who has been living at HQ for 11 months. Seized by the RSPCA from a breeding/hoarding situation Brewster arrived at HQ frozen with fear. With the help of neighbours and friends who visit regularly Brewster is learning to trust humans, walk on a loose lead, sit, come, roll over for tummy tickles (his favourite) and yesterday learned... to sit with several other dogs and only take the treat when his name is called. Brewster is spending more time with the resident Goldies in the house yard but although leaning through the doorway to check out the house, Brewster has not taken the big leap of faith to enter. Brewster has a long way to go but each week he is closer to the day when he can find his forever home. GRR is not taking expressions of interest for Brewster at this time. See more

14.01.2022 Many thanks to Jane Hodges who graciously supplied GRR with ten copies of her book "An Australian Guide To Buying And Raising a Happy Healthy Golden Retriever Puppy". The delivery of the books arrived some time ago but I started reading and became so involved with the book I completely forgot about posting a Thank You on FB so a big apology from me. ... Jane has requested that these copies of her book are to be used for fundraising only and as GRR will be announcing an online Monster Raffle next week, several of these books will be on the list of prizes. Thank you Jane for helping GRR to fundraise and after reading this book I personally recommend it to anyone who is contemplating the purchase of a Goldie puppy. 14.01.2022 The Southern Express set off yet again to deliver eight year old Teddy to his new family. Thank you Bette and Michelle for allowing GRR to share on FB. As Teddy has done each leg of his journey, he continued to charm everyone at the meeting place and of course, Bette and Michelle have him in their hearts already. Teddy is so easy to love and there are a couple of foster carers and members of the Southern Express who would have easily made this gorgeous boy one of their own. Happy forever home Teddy.

14.01.2022 Latest update shows thousands, yes, thousands of objections to Dog Breeding Facility in Adelaide. Thank you Cavalier Rescue for bringing this matter to our attention and again thank you to all those who emailed their objections. We'll keep you updated.

14.01.2022 Meet 16 month old Ellie who has come to GRR in quite a roundabout way. Ellie lived, and we use that term loosely, at a Council approved and registered Breeding Facility in regional NSW. This Breeding Facility is similar to the type of establishment GRR asked all of our followers to object about recently in South Australia. Despite registration with Council and affiliation to a Dog Breeding Group, dogs kept in these premises are there for one purpose and one purpose only....an...Continue reading

01.01.2022 At GRR we know that Christmas is fast approaching because today the box of Christmas presents for the rescues arrived from Bernadette. Every year for as many years as I can remember a box of toys has arrived at HQ to be handed out to the rescues on Christmas morning. This year the toys arrived along with a note advising that Bernadette's much... loved boy, Jasper, had left for Rainbow Bridge last month but despite the loss of their much loved boy the box of toys for the rescues was packed and sent off to GRR, and as always there was an envelope tucked away amongst the toys to help GRR care for the rescues. Run free at Rainbow Bridge Jasper. See more
