25.01.2022 The last few days I've received some lovely emails from 3Chooks makers and I'd love to share some of their photos with you too. Edwina made this pair of gooseneck shades and said "Thank you for the kit. It was fabulous!" ....thank you Edwina, gosh I love goosenecks! Lisa came along to my workshops at @sewmakecreate on the weekend and made this sweet pinky /red linen shade, it looks so gorgeous in its forever home Lisa! And Lana said "I made this with my 3Chooks Lampshade Making goodies" She has been super busy making the floral drum, the k-pow cartoon empire shade and the protea rectangular shade. I love that you have been re-using frames you already have Lana. Thanks so much for sharing everybody. 24.01.2022 A recent custom project now in their new home.... So thrilled with my goose neck lampshades which have brought my mid century lamp table to life again. They were made by Anna Trigg and she also helped me with fabric choice and was so friendly and helpful. I would recommend 3Chooks and Anna to anyone lacking the confidence to make their own. 19.01.2022 Been having some fun in the 3Chooks studio this last week. Lovely Lyn and Chareen attended a workshop, and I got to make these stunning Marimekko shades for Janette. They were such a pleasure to make - I think it’s the orange ...it just makes me happy

19.01.2022 As I continue to showcase some of my wonderful customers’ skill and creativity today I'd love to share Robyn's beautiful shade. This one wasn't quite all skittles and rainbows...Robyn re-made this shade by pulling apart her original lampshade and tracing around the original template. One slight issue that can happen using this method is the side seam can sometimes end up a little short for a reasonable overlap. The reason being that the original shade didn't have cotton tape... binding on the rings, by adding the cotton tape for the new shade the circumference of the rings is slightly increased. So a helpful tip for re-makers out there, it is wise to slightly increase the length of your template which will increase the overlap on your side seam. Before sticking your fabric on, bind your rings and then peg your template onto the rings to test out the overlap - if its too short (oh no!!) then you'll need to cut a new template, it its too long you can trim it slightly (a much better option ;-) Despite her hiccups this shade turned out absolutely beautifully - I do love this shape and proportion. Thanks for sharing with us Robyn.

11.01.2022 I am really loving sharing with you some of my wonderful customers' skill and creativity. Todays lampshades were created by Iwona and Ewa from Waratah Textiles who attended a 3Chooks lampshade making workshop at @sewmakecreate in July 2020, our first workshop back after the Covid shutdown. Waratah Textiles license these beautiful designs from Indigenous artists and produce fabrics. There are 6 designs, available by the metre, with royalties going back to the artists for every metre sold. For more information please visit Waratah Textiles. And how about Iwona's puppy! 10.01.2022 The last few weeks have been a bumpy ride...dreaming up home schooling fantasies, planting seeds and working in my garden, evaporation of said home school fantasies, popping parcels in the garage for our hard working posties and couriers to collect, a slow build of anxiety laden days, a total meltdown shedding many tears, walks with friends in the national park, swimming in the ocean, and a big reality check on what life is going to look like for the next {insert unknown time... period}.....faaark!!!! .... letting go, breathing deep, another wine...repeat So many lovely moments interspersed with uncertainty, apprehension and so many other emotions....and then reminding ourselves (again) we're all in this together. One thing I'm super grateful for is that this forced isolation seems to have sparked many peoples interest in DIY and crafty projects. Orders have been steadily trickling in and between all the hats I'm wearing at the moment I am full of gratitude that small business owner is still one of them. So I guess this post is just to say hi, I'm still here, my family is well and safe, and if you feel like it (...I don't...but you might), then perhaps you'd like to make a lampshade. I have plenty of stock, you can find free tutorials on my website and I'm pretty friendly so any questions you may have please send me an email or pick up the phone. Look after each other, stay well and happy lampshade making!
