25.01.2022 In the "Coronavirus Employer Support - Australia" facebook group I held a facebook live yesterday with tax lawyer, Daniel Taborsky from Birchstone Legal. If you watched, you will know that when it comes to the JobKeeper scheme - the first question I am asking is not "Are you eligible?" I think the first question you need to ask is - What's in it for my business? ... Just because you are eligible doesn't mean it's going to be worth your while. Xero has just produced a Small Business Handbook tackling many of the changes we're seeing - and it features some advice from me . From all the questions I've seen in our Coronavirus Employer Support - Australia FB group, conversations I've had, and my own reading - it is clear that the JobKeeper payments scheme is clear as mud in many respects. The problem is that if you make a mistake it can be costly (eg. paying back to the government, ATO penalties, legal claims in Fair Work Commission etc).... Daniel Taborsky (tax lawyer) and Jo Alilovic (employment lawyer) have created simple quizzes to help you work out if your business and employees are eligible.
