16.01.2022 MALLEE WEATHER WATCH - WARNING TO SHEEP GRAZIERS - ISSUED BY THE BUREAU OF METEOROLOGY AT 4:18PM ON MONDAY 1/6/20:
15.01.2022 Heatwave Service Activated To Help Communities Prepare For Severe Heat:
12.01.2022 * ABOVE AVERAGE SPRING RAINFALL PREDICTED FOR MUCH OF EASTERN AUSTRALIA * At the present we have sea surface temperature (SST) patterns around Australia that ca...n promote above average rainfall for many inland areas during spring. Over the tropical Pacific Ocean this pattern is close to what is called La Nina and for the tropical Indian Ocean we are experiencing a negative Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD). Both of these SST patterns have a history of generating above average rainfall for inland Australia during spring. The recent Bureau of Meteorology analysis of the situation noted: September to November is likely to be wetter than average across much of Australia, (greater than 60% chance in most areas, greater than 75% in much of the eastern half of the mainland). Chances of a drier than average spring are seen in south-west Tasmania (greater than 60% chance), and roughly equal chances of wetter or drier conditions across the west and north of WA For Victoria the indications are for above average rain over much of the State, more particularly the northern half. These longer-range rainfall predictions by the Bureau have become increasingly accurate over the last decade or so and are well worth watching. 11.01.2022 Thunderstorms are possible within the red marked area tomorrow and will extend from the northwest into parts of northern and western Victoria tomorrow afternoon... and evening. If thunderstorms do develop they are expected to be high based, with no associated severe phenomena. Image - Instability/Lifted index forecast for 4PM Friday from the GFS model via BSCH. - Nick -
09.01.2022 * RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS ON THE WAY FOR VICTORIA * A cold front brushed past the south coast of Victoria this morning, producing some light rain across southern... districts. Another cold front and associated trough is developing over South Australia and this is expected to drift slowly east across the next few days bringing rain to Victoria on both Saturday and Sunday. Isolated thunderstorms are expected to be part of the mix on Saturday, with some of these cells locally severe (possible heavy falls and gusty winds) in the northwest of Victoria. The image shows the accumulated rain predicted for southeast Australia from 10 pm on Wednesday 16th to 10 pm Monday 21st. This is according to the ECMWF as processed by Weatherzone. Widespread falls are predicted for northern Victoria, western NSW and much of SA. This event should suppress any serious bushfire outbreaks for Victoria for the rest of September. - Dick Whitaker, Meteorologist -
09.01.2022 Here we go August will be a better month of lots of areas of southern Australia as we will see more mobile Weather systems come through. Both the EC ensemble 14 day rainfall outlook and GFS two weeks rainfall outlook both suggest this. Good agreement. More to come...
