23.01.2022 The journey to becoming Australia's first Line One Hereford herd. In 2020 the 3R herd will implant 50+ pure Line One blood embryos. These calves will be backed by 85 years of dedication to breeding Hereford cattle with real-world purpose and the product of our journey to become Australia's first Line One Hereford herd. After 22 years of breeding Hereford cattle, we had reached a fork in the road. That feeling was confirmed, on our first visit to Montana, the heart of the ‘Wes...t’ and the symbolic home of Hereford cattle in North America. At the heart of Montana’s rich Hereford history was the Line One program. A program established in 1934 at the Miles City Research Station and today, the longest-running genetics program in the world. For 85+ years the Line One program has applied absolute focus on breeding cattle equipped to excel under the demands of the commercial industry. On my first visit to the herds of Cooper & Holden’s, they were unlike any I had seen before. They were cattle with the ultimate consistency. The cowherds were functional sound footed, well structured, perfect uddered, raising strong calves. The bulls are strong, long-bodied, wide-based, athletic and masculine. They were cattle that could clearly stand the challenges presented to them and, put simply, made beef production easy. Line One genetics have been proven on every level. They are spread across the globe and performed in many diverse locations and production systems. They are utilized in commercial straight bred herds but equally, they were favored by commercial Cattleman in Angus, Red Angus, Brahman herds just to name a few. A testament to this is the calibre of Cattleman that gather each March for the annual sales of Holden Herefords & Cooper Hereford Ranch The application of Line One genetics in Australia is genuine. They are highly efficient, performance Herefords that marble, thereafter producing exceptional grass/short fed beef. They are highly maternal and drive higher fertility and increased production. They are proven to produce increase heterosis and make renowned crossbreeding options. Broadly, Line One cattle will add value to a breeding program. Convinced Line One genetics would take our herd forward we staked our future in the breed on developing Australia’s first herd of pure line one genetics. To accomplish this feat we invested in the best L1 cows were could find and have flushed them to the most highly performed sires. With import regulations and logistic challenges, achieving this has not been the easy road however 2020 represents a milestone in our endeavours. 19.01.2022 BROADWAY SHINES: It’s exciting to see the success of new 3R sire Churchill Broadway. The first sons of Broadway sold this morning topping at $65,000 USD for a 50% share and averaging $16,200. Broadway sons showed the high performance that we had hoped when selecting him for Australia. They were extremely high MARBLING and had a big time birth to weaning PERFORMANCE spread. Broadway is the latest chapter in our long friendship with the Venhuizen’s of Churchill Cattle Company. Since 2013 we have visited Churchill in Montana many times and selected numerous sires & embryos to strengthen the 3R Poll Hereford program.

R007, an attractive son of Renown, has performed well weaning at 298kg (4.5 months) and is now primed to show his post weaning performance ability.
