25.01.2022 Remembrance Day 2020 // 3 Wing Remembers Remembrance Day 2019 // Armidale CSGT Isobelle Dick from 337 Squadron was invited by the Armidale RSL Sub-Branch to be this mornings guest speaker for the Remembrance Day service. ... CSGT Dick reflected on not only those who served but those who contributed on the home front, supplying material and moral support to the Australians serving overseas during World War 1. CSGT Dick is pictured with President of the Armidale RSL sub-branch, Mr Max Tavener OAM, and WGCDR (ret) Ken Dickins. We thank CSGT Dick for representing not just the Australian Air Force Cadets but a member of a younger generation acknowledging those who made the supreme sacrifice, came back bearing the wounds of those conflicts and those who help support the front line back at home. #AirForceCadets #RemembranceDay #WeWillRemember #Armidale #Silence #Respect
24.01.2022 Remembrance Day 2020 // 3 Wing Remembers On 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. With their armies retreating and close to collapse, German leaders signed an Armistice, bringing to an end the First World War. From the summer of 1918, the five divisions of the Australian Corps had been at the forefront of the allied advance to victory. Beginning with their stunning success at the battle of Hamel in July, they helpe...d to turn the tide of the war at Amiens in August, followed by the capture of Mont St Quentin and Pèronne, and the breaching of German defences at the Hindenburg Line in September. By early October the exhausted Australians were withdrawn from battle. They had achieved a fighting reputation out of proportion to their numbers, but victory had come at a heavy cost. They suffered almost 48,000 casualties during 1918, including more than 12,000 dead. In the four years of the war more than 330,000 Australians had served overseas, and more than 60,000 of them had died. The social effects of these losses cast a long shadow over the postwar decades. The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month attained a special significance in the post-war years. The moment when hostilities ceased on the Western Front became universally associated with the remembrance of those who had died in the war. #AirForceCadets #RemembranceDay #LestWeForget

22.01.2022 In The Media // A/CUO Taylor - Dubbo 313 Squadron "City of Dubbo" was mentioned on the cover of Dubbo Photo News lately. A/CUO Taylor is a HSC student and is dealing with a changed world due to lock-down restrictions. Inspired by her great grandfather who served in World War 2, she decided to be on the front foot and urge her street to all come out for the Driveway Vigil. ... "It's pretty important someone's got to do it, everyone's looking to somone to be a leader and someones got to setup up, otherwise nothing will get done." Ellee's entire street and family came out to recognise the day and the Dubbo Photo News caught the moment at the break of dawn. We congratulate A/CUO Ellee Taylor in effort and we wish her and all the other members of 3 Wing in their final year of High School. #AirForceCadets #DrivewayVigil #ANZACDay #Dubbo Source: https://www.dubbophotonews.com.au/

18.01.2022 Vale SQNLDR(AAFC) Dean Hawthorn It is with great sadness to inform our 3 Wing (NSW & ACT) family with the sudden passing of SQNLDR(AAFC) Dean Hawthorn. SQNLDR(AAFC) Hawthorn had led a diverse life being a soldier, fire fighter and formally a cadet in the Victorian Air Training Corps.... He was helpful, positive, passionate and encouraging. No problem seemed too small and no big issue couldn't be tackled by this tall moustachioed man. He was full of knowledge and first hand experience with wisdom he would bestow on cadets and staff under his guidance. SQNLDR(AAFC) Hawthorn was the Executive Officer of 323 Squadron "City of Blue Mountains" and Staff Officer Wing Safety 3 Wing. Dean had a passion for firearms and remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) training. In July, CCPL Costa Alexiou organised a virtual rally in the name of SQNLDR(AAFC) Dean Hawthorn to raise money for the Cancer Council and along with members of 323SQN successfully amassed over $5000 and together the unit walked/ran and swam 957 kilometres. On behalf of the 3WG family, we send our thoughts and condolences to SQNLDR(AAFC) Hawthorn's family during this difficult time.
17.01.2022 Kind July // Stay Kind Kindness is not just a nice idea, it's something you do. The Australian Air Force Cadets strive to promote the values of honesty, honour and citizenship amongst our members. Stay Kind (https://www.staykind.org) , formerly known as the Thomas Kelly Youth Foundation, promote kindness as the true currency of humanity. Each and everyone of us benefits when giving or receiving an act of kindness. As a youth centric organisation we see national kindness ultim...ately benefiting our youth and keeping them safe from bullying, violence, hazing and suicide. Our members demonstrate kindness amongst members, with members of the public or helping. Such examples like CCPL Danelle Brodin in Orange who noticed an older lady sitting on her own during an ANZAZ Day service. Judy was her name and she spoke to Danelle about how she was a RAAF nurse during WW2 and loved every minute of it. There were many bad times, but Judy remembers the good out weighing those bad times. She was proud of her service and shared photos with Danelle. Unfortunately, Judy was not up to marching so Danelle carried the ex-Servicewomans banner and her advice to Danelle was "go for it, don’t let anything stand in your way no matter the obstacles." From that moment on Danelle aimed to join the RAAF. Other examples are of 334SQN in Canberra raising donations for Shave For A Cure by sacrificing their hair, cadets helping one another in a leadership course at 321QN in Newcastle, members from 323SQN at RAAF Glenbrook selling Legacy Day badges and experienced cadets helping junior cadets with preparing for camping at 335SQN at Williamtown and cadets being recognised for removing graffiti from 330SQN in Shoalhaven. July is almost over, keep the positive energy going and lets help one another out during difficult times. #AirForceCadets #DoSomethingKind #StayKindMovement

16.01.2022 3 WING AND NAIDOC WEEK 2020 // SHARING CWOFF SINCLAIRS STORY This week will see #events held across the country to mark NAIDOC Week. Within 3 Wing Australian Air Force Cadets, a number of #cadets have Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander backgrounds. We are honoured to be able to share again a NAIDOC Week message from one of our cadets who completed their #promotion course at RAAF Base Wagga in 2019. We thank CWOFF Sinclair for sharing her amazing #story, and acknowledge t...he role that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have made to 3 Wing Australian Air Force Cadets and the wider Australian #community. Message from CWOFF Frances Sinclair: "My name is Cadet Warrant Officer (CWOFF) Frances Sinclair and I am a proud Wiradjuri woman. I come from a small town in the central west, Narromine, which in indigenous language roughly translates to "Home of the Honeybee." NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920’s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. NAIDOC week is a way for communities and organisations to come together to understand the history and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres strait islanders. This year’s theme is voice, treaty, truth, let’s work together for a shared future. The Australian Air Force Cadets (AAFC) is an organisation that develops qualities such as leadership, self-discipline, resilience while encouraging interest into all aspect in aviation. I started cadets when I was thirteen years old back in 2014, at 313 "City of Dubbo" Squadron. It was both terrifying and exciting but honestly was one of the best decisions I had ever made. I have developed as a leader, mentor and citizen, while making friends from all over NSW. I was on my Cadet Warrant Officers promotion course at RAAF Base Wagga in 2019. This is my third and last promotion course as I age out at the end of the year. But I do hope to return as a staff member to give back what the organisation gave me. I was in Year 12 at Narromine High school in the position of School Captain and thanks to cadets have achieved many things in my life since my recruitment. For example, in 2017 I completed a 12-month Rotary Youth Exchange to the USA, all thanks to the qualities that the AAFC have instilled in me, I had the confidence to leave home at the age of 15 and create a whole new life without any trouble. I would like to encourage more Indigenous Australians to join me in the AAFC, as it will provide them with an opportunity that will stay with them forever. Voice, treaty, truth, let’s work together for a shared future." #NationalNAIDOC #NAIDOCWeek #NAIDOC2020 #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe
16.01.2022 Vale SQNLDR(AAFC) Colin Palmer OAM It is with great sadness to inform our 3 Wing (NSW & ACT) family with the sudden passing of SQNLDR(AAFC) Colin Palmer OAM. SQNLDR(AAFC) Palmer had a long connection with 3WG as both a cadet and staff member within the Air Training Corps and later Australian Air Force Cadets providing mentorship and friendship to all of those who he met.... His appointment as Officer Commanding 3WG in 2002 created a long lasting legacy and spotlight on 3WG after he was appointed as Commander AAFC in September 2004. Cadets and staff involved in the safe handling and operation of firearms would vividly remember SQNLDR(AAFC) Palmer's passion for firearms training - especially during monthly firearms shooting activities and competitions. On behalf of the 3WG family, we send our thoughts and condolences to SQNLDR(AAFC) Palmer's family during this difficult time.

07.01.2022 Flying Inspiration // FLGOFF(AAFC) Stefan von Czapiewski "I think it is a pity to lose the romantic side of flying and simply to accept it as a common means of transport." - Amy Johnson - Pioneering English pilot who was the first woman to fly solo from London to Australia. Though commercial travel is very common today, we share another story of a former cadet working their way to piloting on of these amazing machines that grace our skies. ... "I joined the AAFC in 2006 at 335SQN Williamtown, attended a PEX that year and as soon as the wheels left the ground I knew it was what I wanted to do. Started flying at 309FLT Camden in 2007, represented 3WG at the NATFLYEX07, finished with the AAFC as a CWOFF at 332SQN Wagga Wagga in 2010. In 2012 I joined as an LAC(AAFC) at 609SQN Warradale in Adelaide and in 2018 I transferred to 324SQN (City of Randwick). I was accepted onto the Regional Express Cadet Pilot Program at Wagga Wagga and obtained a Commercial Pilots Licence and Multi Engine Instrument Rating in 2010. In 2011 was based in Townsville and eventually Adelaide as a First Officer on the SAAB 340 and was promoted to Captain in 2016 based in Sydney. I found I was flying with a lot of ex Air Force Cadets with one even being on the same GST as myself. Flown regionally all over Australia bar the NT. In 2017 I moved to Jetstar as a First Officer on the Airbus A320 flying domestic with some rosters being lucky enough to fly internationally to NZ, Fiji and Bali." We thank FLGOFF(AAFC) Stefan von Czapiewski for sharing a bit about his career with the AAFC and now his flying career. Are an ex-cadet? Or still in the AAFC in 3WG? Send us your flying photos and experiences so we can share them! #AirForceCadets #Aviation #Flying #FlightTraining #ReachForTheStars

06.01.2022 3 Wing Band presents // Whispers from Beyond Premiering this Sunday 9pm AEDT via the 3 Wing Band's YouTube channel. https://youtu.be/Rg4tsqb3MVQ... 2020 has been one roller coaster of a year with cadet activities. None so more than our 3 Wing Band (344 Musician's Flight) consisting of cadets and staff from across NSW & ACT who have been unable to rehearse together since October 2019, where the band performed a great showcase event "One Night on Broadway" at the Windsor Function Centre. If you haven't seen this show, make sure you check it out on their YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/playlist Since March, the members of 344 Musicians Flight have maintained morale and musical talent within the band by resorting to virtual performances. This way of performing creates its own unique challenges, but it allows our band members to keep learning new music and doing what they love, performing! Virtual performances also create some unique opportunities, such as working with other bands from any where across the globe! In August the band worked with several bands from the UK and Canada to deliver a virtual concert called "Hands Across The Commonwealth" The band's latest performance is an amazing work by American composer, Rossano Galante, titled Whispers from Beyond. The 3 Wing Band were fortunate enough to be joined by the Central & East Yorkshire Wing Music Services band. This performance is without a doubt their best virtual performance yet, and we hope you enjoy Whispers from Beyond. #3WingBand #WhispersFromBeyond #VirtualBand #COVID19 #AirForceCadets

02.01.2022 Challenge Yourself in June // Do It For Cancer Whilst a lot of us have been isolated, many units have had to cancel their participation in Relays For Life across the State and Territory. CCPL Costa Alexiou from 323 Squadron "City of Blue Mountains" found an alternative and has started a virtual marathon with the unit raising over $2700 so far! ... He contacted the Officer Commanding of 3WG and asked whether other units would want to participate with their own virtual challenges to help raise funds for the Cancer Council of Australia. Keeping COVID19 restrictions in mind and maintaining social distances he urges units to join and set a target to reach. Not only are you helping raise funds to fight Cancer, but you're getting out and shaking off isolation with some healthy exercise. https://www.doitforcancer.com.au/ Check out Costa's team effort so far: https://www.doitforcancer.com.au//323squadronaustralianair Units around 3 Wing participate in community service events and help raise funds for charities and causes. #AirForceCadets #DoItForCancer #VirtualMarathon #FightCancer
