21.01.2022 WORLD: Central Florida To Build Aviation Facility For Jetsons-Like ‘Flying Cars’ The Tavistock Development Corp. is constructing a Jetsons-like aviation facility in Orlando’s Lake Nona area. The nation’s first regional hub for flying cars is being built in central Florida and once completed in five years, the vehicles will be able to take passengers from Orlando to Tampa in a half hour, officials said Wednesday.... The Tavistock Development Corp. said it was constructing a Jetsons-like aviation facility in Orlando’s Lake Nona area, the mixed-use planned community it built. Lake Nona already is home to several medical and research facilities. The aircraft will be supplied by Lilium, a Germany-based aviation company that manufacturers the industry’s only five-passenger electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. At the moment, the Lilium Jets can travel up to 185 miles (nearly 300 kilometers) on a one-hour charge. Passengers wanting a ride on the aircraft will be able to book reservations via their phones in a way similar to ride-share companies Uber and Lyft, officials said. The vehicles flying and landing out of the Lake Nona Vertiport will accommodate four passengers and a pilot. The cost will be similar to a first-class fare, though the price will likely go down as the service becomes more popular, officials said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4IqRr1eicE&feature=emb_logo READ MORE: https://www.greekmediagroup.com.au/central-florida-to-buil/

19.01.2022 AUSTRALIA: Cutting JobSeeker inhumane Even with the chaos of another forced lockdown in Victoria and continuing border closures around the country, the government is still yet to announce a decision on the JobSeeker Payment, leaving over a million of Australians in limbo. An expected cut to the $75 per week Coronavirus Supplement on 31 March, will force hundreds of thousands of unemployed people to forego necessities.... The Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, has commented ‘How good is Australia?’. I urge him to listen to the answers of those on JobSeeker, who every day must choose between eating or covering the rent, said Executive Director of the Brotherhood of St. Laurence (BSL), Conny Lenneberg. Even with the current Coronavirus Supplement, the JobSeeker rate means recipients are faced with heartbreaking decisions about how to spend their money. It’s already inadequate and it would be inhumane to go backwards. JobSeeker must be increased to reflect the true cost of living if it is to be an effective support for people in Australia who have found themselves in hard times. BSL, along with ACOSS, the RBA and other organisations, is calling for a permanent and adequate rate increase to unemployment payments to lift recipients above the poverty line. December 2020 ABS data shows that there are about 222,000 more unemployed people compared to before the pandemic in December 2019. Overall, there are more than 1.4 million people on unemployment benefits. In the middle of an economic crisis, pulling support from under so many people will have disastrous consequences, Ms Lenneberg said. Government calls for those unemployed to seek work in regional areas fail to recognise the expense associated with looking for work. Unemployed people want to work. They need opportunities and, importantly, to be able to afford the costs of job hunting internet, transport, accommodation, and appropriate attire, Ms Lenneberg said. It would be prohibitively expensive for those unemployed to pack up their lives and move to another region to take up work when they can’t even afford to dress for an interview around the corner. And what will happen in six weeks’ time to the over 1.5 million people being kept in work by JobKeeper when it ends? How many more will lose their jobs and be forced into hardship? Now’s the time to ensure adequate and fair income support. The Brotherhood of St. Laurence is a social justice organisation working to prevent and alleviate poverty across Australia. Source: Medianet

05.01.2022 POLITICS: A New North Face? Why Daniel Andrews is the brand ambassador we didn’t know we needed There’s always been politics in fashion, what might be less obvious is that there’s fashion in Daniel Andrews.... New research from the award-winning strategic insights consultancy Nature has found high consumer awareness of and a willingness to buy the North Face brand since the Premier of Victoria has been wearing it in front of the microphone during media conferences over the past year. Unprompted awareness of North Face is double among the 44% of Australians who have watched Mr Andrews’ media conferences compared with people who have not tuned in. Prompted awareness of the brand is highest in Victoria, at 62%, compared with 41% in other states. The impact of North Face’s higher visibility is positive: 56% of people who have seen Mr Andrews’ media conferences say they are now likely to buy a North Face product in the future, compared with 41% who have not seen his media conferences despite, or perhaps because of, Mr Andrew’s penchant for the brand often being the subject of satirical media coverage. The brand has permeated youth culture as seen by the rise in memes and social media sharing of Mr Andrews in North Face since his first media conference. Nature Managing Partner, Chris Crook, said: Fashion is an intrinsic part of visual communication, and the wardrobe choices of our political advisors have been making headlines for years. Who could forget the controversy that came with Barack Obama’s tan suit in 2014? While it’s usually controversy that follows politicians and their fashion choices, we’re surprised, and just a little delighted, to find that Dan Andrews has had the opposite affect on North Face despite they controversy that has followed him as a politician over the past 12 months. Nature Partner, Paddy Cain, added: Not surprisingly, Australians’ political alignment had a strong influence on their feelings about North Face, with 15% of Labor supporters feeling positive about the brand. But twice that number of Liberal voters felt more negatively towards the brand. We can assume that the brand already had a political lean prior to Dan Andrews wearing it, but Dan has certainly had a tangible impact in creating further division between political parties and people being either fans or non-fans of the brand. I think one thing we can all agree on is that fashion will always find a role to play in politics, he said. Source: Medianet
