19.01.2022 The QLD over 50s Grand Final for the 3rd year in a row is Brisbane v Gold Coast. Both sides went through bit of a transformation combining 2 div 1 sides into a single team. Brisbane have won the past 2 finals and will be more than difficult to beat again, but the GC has managed to complete the 5 round games undefeated. This match will be high quality and should be a cracking game. The side are playing for the Gill Chapman Shield. GO THE GOLD COAST THUNDER

13.01.2022 On our way to England!

12.01.2022 The first over-50s games of the season are only a couple of weeks away now. The Wellington/Tasman Firehawks Over-50s Cricket head up to Hawkes Bay for a match o...n October 3, while Northern Districts and Central Districts play a trial match on October 4 for selection in the Districts side that will compete in the Inter-Provincial Tournament (IPT) in January. The second trial between ND and CD takes place a fortnight later, on Oct. 18. Then the Firehawks play against the Wellington Blaze women's team on October 25 and Canterbury and Otago will play two matches over that same weekend for spots in the Canterbury/Otago Mainlanders IPT side. The Firehawks travel to Christchurch for two games against Canterbury on Oct. 30 and Nov. 1. Here is one of the trialists for the Canterbury side, NZ all-rounder Kelvin Scott, facing a promising young chap named Ben Stokes in the nets at Sydenham CC in Christchurch.

11.01.2022 MATCH REPORT GC Div 1 (Blue) v Ipswich After recent COVID changes, it was nice to still be able to play cricket and travel up to the fantastic Ivor Marsden complex in Ipswich. After loosing the loosing the toss again, the GC had to field for the 4th straight match. With light rain before the start, the umpires decided we can play. Easy decision given that there games already going on the other 4 turf grounds. This was the 1st winter pitch we’d played on that hard some decen...t bounce and carry even with the light rain, slippery front foots and ball getting wet. Ipswich made a steady start with their first wicket falling at 23. Opener K. Janke then started to hit out, but when he was bowled with the score at 43, the wickets then started to tumble on a regular basis. Ipswich were all out for 104 off only 28 overs. Wickets were taken by S. Riley 3/19 (off 6), G. Lovett 3/9 (off 4.1), Barry Gill 2/21 (off 4), M. Greenhatch 1/16 (off 7) and D. Santer 1/18 off 4. Even out of a small total of 104, we still managed 24 wides which is something that the side will need to fix in the next game. Chasing such a small total, there was a slight change in the batting order with P. Baird opening with regular opener Matt Gill. After the first over the score was 0/16. P. Baird 9 and 7 wides. Frist wicket was M. Gill for 2 and with the score at 48 P. Baird departed. They were the only wickets as S. Morris and J. Lindemann batting in the unfamiliar role of No4, scored the runs in 18 overs. S. Morris finished 28 No (off 40) and J. Lindemann 33 No (off 34). Jeff continues to leads the Division 1 batting aggregate and average 164 runs at an average of 164. M. Greenhatch is now the leading wicket taker with 9 and S. Riley and D. Santer also in the top 10 wicket takers in the division The GC Div1 team sit comfortably on top of the ladder with 1 game remaining before the final. The last game is at home on Saturday 12th at Cheltenham and should be a cracker against the 2nd place Sunny Coast that boasts a side containing 2 former QLD 1st class players and 2 former Zimbabwe internationals, plus a formal international tennis player.

10.01.2022 Over the weekend, a group of 9 Mudgee over 40 players decided that playing in an 8 a side competition over 2 days at Loganholme was a good idea. Not sure if it ...was dedication, a love of cricket, a chance to get out and play some sport with everything going on in the world or just stupidity. After loosing the first 2 of 5 round games (to a fill in team and Loganholme), it seemed that the already aching bodies started to think this was not a smart idea? With a very convincing win in the 3rd game of day 1 (defeating Burleigh after scoring 186 in 14 overs), there was still a little hope to make it through to the final with 2 more games the next day. The biggest question was who was going to turn up and not be too injured or sore to play. Luckily we had a late start on Sunday (being fathers day) and with Tristan’s massage gun working overtime, we managed to easily account for Surfers and Helensvale to make it through to the final against hosts and undefeated Loganholme in the final. Many of the side, we happy to just forfeit the final and take the runners up prize, but hey, it was fathers day and we were all doing what we love so another game of cricket it was. Batting first and a bit of controversy along the way, we managed to post a formidable finals score of 140. It proved too much for Loganholme after 3 early wickets as Mudgee cruised to an easy win to become the inaugural winners of the Loganholme super 8’s. Everyone of the squad of 9 played an important role during our 6 games. Although to come away winners was a great result, I think we all just enjoyed being with a great bunch of people, doing what we love and enjoying the mateship. The side will be donating a portion of the winnings to the fund raising for an electronic scoreboard for the club. The rest of the remaining winnings will be certainly enjoyed over the bar at the club house in a few weeks once everyone had recovered enough to savior it. Big shout out to Loganholme Cricket Club for putting on the tournament, we will be back next year hoping to defend the title. Lastly, thanks to our lone supporter (who decided to abandon us before we played the GF) Michael Greenhatch See more
