25.01.2022 Last weekend saw the band perform in a very special parade commemorating the Centenary of Armistice. The cadets joined thousands of pipers and drummers across the world to play the stirring tune, Battles Oer, at exactly 6:00am GMT or 4:30pm ACST, marking the end of hostilities in WW1. The importance of the occasion was matched by the professionalism and demeanor of the cadets, who continue to proudly carry on the traditions of our armed forces, for whom this day is so signif...icant. We would like to thank Simon Shepherd for these absolutely stunning photos of the parade.

24.01.2022 The cadets and staff had an absolute blast last night supporting the Australian Defence Force Cadets Tri-Service Ball at the historic Torrens Parade ground. This was a very big occasion with over 200 cadets and staff in attendance, and marked the first time the ball incorporated a formal Mess Dinner or Dining-in Night format. This was a very big day for the band also with a number of our cadets and tutors supporting the Ethnic Childrens Parade as part of the City of Adelaide... Pipe Band first thing in the morning, playing in the RU Brown silver chanter contest as part of the Gracenotes Academy of Piping & Drumming just after lunch, and then moving straight to Torrens for the Ball for the evening. We were impressed by the professionalism of the cadets who put on a great performance, and also want to recognise the very large hand our Officer Commanding, Lieutenant (AAC) Wendy Bessen, had in organising the event, and the fantastic support from our parents committee in helping to set up the hall. If you were at the Ball and enjoyed the performance, or know someone between the age of 12.5 and 17 years old who would like to be involved in events like this or learn pipes and drums, please get in contact with us to express your interest!
24.01.2022 Another practice night done and dusted with a new tune added to our repertoire. CDT Spicer does a great job leading the pipe corps into this stirring tune before being joined by our drum corps which continues to improve in leaps and bounds.
23.01.2022 A week ago today, the band provided musical support to the 2018 SA Australian Army Cadet Brigade Promotion Course pass-out parade. This parade marked an extremely significant occasion for the band with two of its very own members being part of the 120+ cadets who undertook an intensive week of training to prepare them for their roles as future leaders. It also marked the first public performance for the majority of the cadets in the band.... The cadets did an absolutely fantastic job on the day and drew praise widely from the crowd with the Commander of the Australian Army Cadets, Brigadier Michael Ashleigh singling out the band for its fantastic effort in getting to such a strong standard in the four months since its re-raising. A big congratulations to all those involved and we look forward to an exciting year ahead.
23.01.2022 The Pipes and Drums had a busy weekend with the band providing support to the SA AAC BDE annual Leadership and Instructor Course. Unfortunately the photos arent in yet, but while we wait for them we thought wed share another video from the Winter Ceilidh of the combined 413 Pipes & Drums and Gracenotes Academy of Piping & Drumming performing an excellent rendition of the Gael, ably supported by Joshua Troup on the keys, Warwick Sinjon Vorster on the bass, and the very talented CDT Esplin on the drum kit. We hope you enjoy!
20.01.2022 413 ACU was represented today at a Duke of Edinburgh Award Function at Prince Alfred College. This function was part of the 150th anniversary of PAC celebrations which included a visit by HRH Prince Edward Earl of Wessex. Four Army Cadets were chosen to attend this even including two of our own, CDTCPL Carragher and CDT OBree.
18.01.2022 Everyone enjoyed a welcome break this Monday after the band held its first major training activity over Saturday and Sunday. Saturday focused on a complete walk-through of new music and a drill display for a 413 P&D concert currently in works for June 2019. This was followed by a number of the members and staff making their way to the Payneham Returned & Services League - RSL for a fantastic evening of Celtic music and dancing hosted by the City of Adelaide Pipe Band. Sunday... saw a return to basics with 413 P&D and the Gracenotes Academy of Piping & Drumming holding a joint instrument maintenance workshop. This training reinforced the need for each player to be able to diagnose and resolve issues with their own instruments. These skills were immediately put into practice with the pipers seeing a serious improvement in their stability and tone, and the drummers completing a strip and re-assemble (with new heads) of four sides! 18.01.2022 The cadets were honored to perform at the 10/27 RSAR Armistice Ball last weekend, commemorating the centenary of Armistice, and recognising the hard work of many of the soldiers within the Regiment. The cadets performed excellently and received great reviews from a very appreciative audience, including the CO and RSM of the Regiment.
18.01.2022 The next band leader we would like to introduce is our Drum Sergeant, Cadet Elise Esplin. Cadet Esplin originally started her drumming career in the Seymour College Pipe Band under drumming tutor, Doug Paterson, before joining Gracenotes Academy of Piping & Drumming and 413 ACU Pipes and Drums in April 2019. In the short time she has been in the band, Cadet Esplin has established herself as a very strong player, lifting the confidence of those around her, and driving the whol...e corps forward in terms of integration and sound. Her work on the kit drum has also added an extra level to our concert sets and really brought the Ceilidh alive earlier this year. Cadet Esplin has also embraced the green side of her role, actively seeking out opportunities to learn Army skills, get out field, and network with her peers from across the state. We look forward to watching her continued growth as a drummer and leader and foresee big things in the future for this talented young girl!
18.01.2022 The band was honoured to be able to play in the ANZAC Day March and Youth Vigil last week. The feedback from the diggers and supporters was touching and reinforced the strong culture of mateship and sacrifice that we teach to our Cadets. Our ability to participate would not have been possible without the support we continue to receive from the Gracenotes Academy of Piping & Drumming, City of Adelaide Pipe Band, and Australian Army Cadets - South Australia Brigade.... We hope you enjoy a small selection of pictures from the week.
17.01.2022 The cadets creating their own schiltron (pike wall) during a history lesson on the Battle of Falkirk
16.01.2022 Earlier this month, the Pipes and Drums held its second training weekend, EX Stirling. The focus of this weekend was on the role of a Pipes and Drums in providing musical support to ceremonial parades. This included a lot of time on the square in very warm temperatures and saw the band playing on the march for the very first time ever.... The cadets worked extremely hard over the weekend and have made another massive leap towards their debut at the SA AAC Brigades Promotion Course parade later this year!

13.01.2022 New drums, who this? The band is very excited to finally have our new look drums up and running after months of hard work by our tutors and supporters. We would especially like to thank 51 ACU Swan Regiment Drums and Pipes for their kind donation of three drums, Suburban French Polishers for their great work on the hoops, a longtime supporter of the band who kindly donated his time to respray the drums, and the cadets and tutors who have put in a huge amount of time and effor...t into stripping, rebuilding, and working up new heads on every drum in the corps. We are looking forward to debuting the drums in two weeks at our Ceilidh which is shaping up to be one of the most significant events in the bands history!
13.01.2022 The 29th September to the 6th October saw the SA AAC BDE hold its Annual Field Exercise (AFX). This week saw members of 413 ACU Pipes and Drums premier the Tier 2 Pipes and Drums Course. The course was open to members of the brigade to get a sense of what the band does and learn an instrument. The course ran extremely well with all members participating in the end of AFX parade to a high standard.... With instructors and tutors of our own we were also pleased to have LCPL Casey from 5/6 Royal Victorian Regiment join us to tutor our drum majors. Well done to everyone who participated throughout the brigade, it was a week to remember.
13.01.2022 With such a busy schedule over the past month we've fallen behind on providing updates on some of the fantastic work the band has done. Since our last update, the band has been very busy providing support to three end of year parades and a unit opening, following on from the four completed in the fortnight before hand. This kicked off on Saturday, 7 December with a great parade at 40 Army Cadet Unit - Noarlunga which provided a very 'intimate' atmosphere with so many people ...on parade, followed by a sleepover at Hampstead Barracks. The following day, the cadets were up early and practicing again before launching into the 44 Army Cadet Unit end of year parade which the band putting on a very solid performance despite the heat. After a break of only 4 days, the cadets were back at it again, leaving on Friday at lunch time to make the long trip down to Mt Gambier to support the 48 Army Cadet Unit Mount Gambier end of year parade with rehearsals kicking off right after they arrived, and the parade first thing Saturday morning. This was followed by a fantastic tour of the Blue Lake and the various sinkhole gardens around the town.It was back on the bus again the following morning and down to Naracoorte to play at the 427 Army Cadet Unit Opening. The cadets did an excellent job once again despite the heat, seeing out a very challenging but rewarding parade season with a strong performance.
12.01.2022 The Pipes and Drums held the inaugural Winter Ceilidh over the weekend with over a hundred family and friends coming along to show their support. The night was a fantastic success with the students and tutors putting on two very professional sets as well as leading the audience in a number of traditional Ceilidh dances. The audience loved the bands presentation of The Gael, The Dragons Lair, and Highland Cathedral, but the overwhelming crowd favourite was the Drum Salute, fea...turing many young members from the Gracenotes Academy of Piping & Drumming. There are so many people we would like to thank for making the night possible, but in particular we would like to thank the South Australia Police Band for their incredibly generous support and loan of sound equipment for the event, Marielle and Lorraine for their amazing fit-out of the hall, the Jeppe Pipe Band for very cool back-sticking arrangement, and the Australian Army Cadets - South Australia Brigade and Gracenotes Academy of Piping & Drumming for their ongoing support. We look forward to uploading more pictures and videos over the coming weeks but for now, enjoy these snapshots from the event.
11.01.2022 The countdown is on with just under a week until our inaugural Winter Ceilidh on Saturday 22 June 2019 from 7:00pm. If you havent got your tickets yet, make sure you get in contact asap as we only have a handful left! Were also excited to be able to share some absolutely fantastic photos from Kate Elmes Photography of the cadets performing at the ANZAC Youth Vigil this year. The cadets represented themselves admirably on the night and looked very smart in their winter uniform.
11.01.2022 Come down to Bunnings Marion for a musical show by 413ACU supporting Legacy
11.01.2022 Just over a week ago the Pipes and Drums held a joint End of Year Parade with our sister unit, 47 Army Cadet Unit Keswick. This event marks the end of an extremely successful year which has seen the Pipes and Drums increase its numbers seven-fold, conduct six training weekends, a week-long Pipes and Drums course, a dozen public performances, and compete in three solo competitions with our tutors and cadets taking home prizes in all. The parade also provided an opportunity to... recognise the efforts of those who have excelled during the year including: - CDTCPL Kiara Di Giusto: OCs Commendation - REC Abbie Spicer: Pipe Tutors Award - CDTCPL Kiara Di Giusto: Most Improved Piper - CUO Zac Kennedy: Drum Tutors Award - CDTLCPL Kaleb Bishop: Most Improved Drummer - CDTSGT Sarah Carragher: Service to the Unit Trophy Finally, the parade marked an important milestone with 413 P&D and 47 ACU being merged into the newly formed 473 Army Cadet Unit Keswick. This was signified by the handover of cadet command from CUO Fisher to CUO Kennedy who will take on the role of Company Commander in addition to his existing duties as the Band Master. Whilst many current and ex-members are sad to see the 413 designation laid to rest, we believe that the newly created unit will allow us to build an even stronger band with more well-rounded cadets into the future.
10.01.2022 The band is catching its breath this week after a very busy weekend which saw the band playing at a number of events. This kicked off first thing Saturday morning with the cadets and staff heading to 431 ACU Sacred Heart for the first time ever to provide music for their End of Year Parade. After having a quick lunch, the band was then whisked back to Keswick Barracks and immediately jumped into practice for the combined End of Year Parade for 47 Army Cadet Unit - Keswick - ...S.A, 6 Wing - Australian Air Force Cadets, and 413 ACU Pipes and Drums. Unfortunately, poor weather forced the parade inside on the Sunday, but the cadets adapted quickly and were still able to put on a great performance, including a tricky little bit of drill for the march-off. A number of awards were handed out on the day to recognise exemplary contribution to the unit and improvement on instruments throughout the year. This years recipients were: - CDTCPL John Rudloff - OCs Commendation - CDT William Mullighan - Pipe Tutors Award - CDTCPL Daniel Shepherd - Most Improved Piper - CDT Elise Esplin - Drum Tutors Trophy - CDTCPL John Rudloff We would like to congratulate all the cadets and staff for a great effort over the weekend!

09.01.2022 Just over three weeks ago, the Pipes and Drums provided support to the annual South Australian Army Cadet Brigade Leadership and Instructor Courses. The parade saw over 150 cadets celebrate the end of an intensive week of training with two of our very own cadets, CDTLCPL Daniel Shepherd and CDTLCPL John Rudloff passing their courses. The band put on a solid performance and we look forward to adding more great pictures over the coming weeks.
08.01.2022 Congratulations to our very talented young group of pipers who competed at the RU Brown Piobaireachd Society of SA Gold Medal contest on Sunday. The group that competed included CDT Spicer, CDT Mulligan, CDT Shepherd, CDT Di Giusto, and CDTCPL Carragher. Their discipline, concentration, and professionalism drew praise from many of the contest organisers and the tutors are extremely proud of how everyone played on the day.... Well done all and we look forward to the next solos at the Port Adelaide Caledonian Society in August!
08.01.2022 Throw back to where it all started just over 2 months ago when our tutors went out to drum up new members for the band.

06.01.2022 Were excited to run a short series over the next few weeks introducing the leaders of our Pipes and Drums, kicking off the series with our our Pipe Major, Cadet Abbie Spicer. Cadet Spicer joined the Pipes and Drums in March 2018 after learning the piping fundamentals from her Grandfather, and refining her skills through the Gracenotes Academy of Piping & Drumming. 04.01.2022 We hope you enjoy this video of the band opening the Australian Defence Force Cadets Tri-Service Ball on Saturday with some new drill movements to compliment some traditional Scottish and Australian tunes. 03.01.2022 The band was delighted to go on its now annual road trip to Port Augusta a fortnight ago to provide support to the combined parade and dining-in night for 46 ACU Port Augusta and 41 Army Cadet Unit - Whyalla. The band did a great job and had an absolute blast at the dinner with CDT William Mullighan leading the band and CDT Atticus Zweck putting on an excellent performance as the solo piper for the dinner. It was great to see the cadets bond over the course of the weekend, and build on the already tight bonds which are the mark of any great organisation and any great pipe band!
