21.01.2022 INTERNATIONAL DOG DAY Accelerant detection dogs, Xando, Gandalf and Xenos are not only adorable, they are also very important assistants for firefighters and other emergency services. With a sense of smell 100,000 times more acute than a human’s, ADCs are able to detect fire accelerant in smaller concentrations than any portable scientific equipment currently available. These talented canines can even be sent into crowds of spectators at large fires to sniff out traces of ...accelerant on arsonists who have returned to the scene of their crime. We appreciate our very clever furry friends (and their amazing handlers) today and every day. #MoreThanFire #PreparedForAnything #InternationalDogDay

16.01.2022 September 11 is a solemn day for Firefighters world wide. On this day in 2001 hijacked aircraft were flown into the World Trade Centre in NYC as well as the Penatagon in Washington DC. One airliner crashed in Pennsylvania when passengers stormed the cockpit in an attempt to take back control of the flight. In the NYC attacks 343 FDNY Firefighters lost their lives. In the weeks & month’s following Firefighters worked around the clock trying to find their Brothers & as a result another 220+ have died as a result of cancers & other diseases that developed as a result of working on the contaminated site. Never Forget!

09.01.2022 The first significant rainfall event of the La Niña summer is set to drench parts of south east Qld and northern NSW over the coming days. A coastal trough and low pressure system is bringing heavy rain from the tropics along with gale-force winds, abnormally high tides and dangerous surf conditions which could lead to coastal erosion. Severe weather warnings are current for both states as heavy rain, wind and seas increase from Sunday around the Sunshine Coast and spread south into north east NSW later on Sunday and into Monday. If you don’t need to be on the roads stay home. If travel is essential exercise caution, never drive into water covering roads...if it’s flooded, forget it!

03.01.2022 Tweed Shire residents will need to put their clocks forward by one hour this Sunday at 2:00am for the start of daylight saving time. The majority of smart devices and computers will automatically adjust the time however older clocks and watches may need to be changed manually. This begins the time of year in our area where 2 time zones exist as the State of Queensland doesn't operate daylight savings time. This is so their curtains don't fade faster & their cows don't stop producing milk... Don't forget, when you change your clocks check your smoke alarms. Or for our friends north of the border, check your smoke alarms when we change our clocks!

03.01.2022 Total Fire Ban from midnight tonight (Sunday 22/11). A total fire ban helps limit the potential of fires developing. During a Total Fire Ban you cannot light, maintain or use a fire in the open, or to carry ...out any activity causes, or is likely to cause, a fire. If you see a fire ring Triple Zero (000) immediately to report it.

01.01.2022 The Australian Warning System is a new national approach to information and warnings for hazards like bushfire, flood, storm, cyclone, extreme heat and severe weather. The Australian Warning System has been designed based on feedback and research across the country and aims to deliver a more consistent approach to emergency warnings across jurisdictions. It uses a nationally consistent set of icons to show incidents on websites and apps, supported by calls to action. There ar...e three warning levels: Advice (Yellow) - An incident has started. There is no immediate danger. Stay up to date in case the situation changes. Watch and Act (Orange) - There is a heightened level of threat. Conditions are changing and you need to start taking action now to protect you and your family. Emergency Warning (Red) - An Emergency Warning is the highest level of warning. You may be in danger and need to take action immediately. Any delay now puts your life at risk. Up until now there has been different warning systems for different hazard types across Australia. The new Australian Warning System aims to provide consistent warnings to Australian communities so that people know what to do when they see a warning level.
