24.01.2022 Intrastate Movement Restrictions Proposed Premier Mark McGowan has flagged that the state government will shortly release details of travel restrictions within Western Australia. The Police Commissioner Chris Dawson has elaborated that travel this Easter should be avoided. This ABC news article covers the statements - https://www.abc.net.au//perth-stadium-becomes-cor/12085616 Given these upcoming restrictions it appears that Four Elements will not be open this Easter or A...pril School holidays. We would like to encourage those of you who have bookings to move those bookings to the October holidays rather than seek a refund. Naturally enough refunding 100% of upcoming bookings with no immediate prospect of any income to replace those bookings would place us in a difficult position. Thanks for you support, past and future, we will let you know via Facebook as things develop over coming months Peter & Sam

23.01.2022 Four Elements Hibernation All of the cottages are now rented out longer term ... many thanks to all of you who shared our post advertising them. Four Elements will not be operating normally for a six month period, with a tentative date for normal bookings to resume in the 2020 October school holidays commencing 26 September 2020. Fingers Crossed! If you had a booking during that period we should have already emailed to offer to shift it to an alternate date in October ...or beyond, but please feel free to contact us via [email protected] or on Facebook. Thanks to all our customers for their support during these uncertain times, we will see you all post COVID-19 Kind Regards Peter and Sam

21.01.2022 Holiday Vacancy We have had a last minute cancellation and theres now two nights available during school holidays - 29 & 30 September in Wind Theres been quite a few people asking about the upcoming holidays, far too many to contact individually so we thought we would let everyone know via Facebook.... Activities are running (almost) as usual - with a little bit of splitting things up to allow social distancing between families staying ... so the kids will have a great time. We have three bonfires planned over the break one on each weekend weather permitting

18.01.2022 Last Minute Cancellation - 6 night vacancy Owing to illness one of the cottages has become available for the next 6 nights. As its impossibly late notice we are happy to offer a 15% discount to any family staying 4 nights or more. Vacancy is from tonight until the morning of Sun the 3rd January. Your kids will have a ball, we are running activities twice daily at the moment

17.01.2022 Christmas Vacancy Unfortunate circumstances have lead to a family having to cancel their booking over Christmas at late notice. We now have vacancy for 5 nights from the 22nd of December that we would love to resell so that we can minimise their misfortune and return their deposit.... This could be a lucky break for anybody who has left their Christmas getaway planning a bit late this year. Come and join us for Christmas and we will entertain the kids with our twice daily activities

17.01.2022 How to Recognise an Australian in a Crisis Social media is often a vehicle for panic and misinformation, or worse yet cutesy slogans of encouragement, I am often critical of it, but to date have done little to make a difference. At the moment we face unusual circumstances, not seen before during our lives, so I thought I would write something that others might recognise and relate to........ Australia is a nation of many races and cultures so its often not easy to recognise somebody as an Australian. The current COVID-19 crisis has me thinking of my grandparents and in particular my Grandpa Gerry. For me he typified an Australian of his generation, born of farming stock in the early part of the last century, he survived the flu epidemic before his family were forced off the farm. Next came the Second World War .... he volunteered serving in some of the more difficult theatres of war including both Tobruk and Papa New Guinea. Despite what most would describe as a difficult start in life he was a happy individual. He worked blue collar jobs his whole life and indulged his passion for creating and learning by building, at different times, his own car, the family home, a swimming pool and a caravan. In his later years he learned to create silver jewellery and stained glass art. His resilience, resourcefulness and common sense approach to everything was remarkable, big budgets were not available but things got done. Always willing to lend a hand and help anyone who asked he was well liked and was lucky enough to have a few special mates. He never boasted of his achievements, his humility was constant and unfailing. Lacking a tertiary education he was nevertheless a critical thinker, often vowing not to believe something printed in the papers until he had "seen it with his own eyes". He rarely spoke of his time in the war and it was only when I read some of his letters to my Grandma from that period that I realised the difficulties he faced and the quiet courage he employed. Many, if not all of us, will have had similar people in our families, Australia is full of stories like mine, regardless of race or background all of us have families who have battled to make Australia what it is today. What we need now is for us to tap into this heritage, to remember where we came from and who we are as a nation. We need to be cautious about COVID-19, but we need to temper that caution with commonsense, to prove to ourselves that many years of peace and prosperity has not softened us as a people. We have an opportunity to show that we are still as tough and resilient as the harsh continent we live on, that when the going gets difficult we can keep things going. In my opinion the real danger from COVID-19 is over reacting and destroying what we have all worked hard to build. Look around you I am sure you will recognise many fellow Australians quietly making things happen. Perhaps others have similar stories they would like to share

15.01.2022 Another Cancellation for the Holidays We have had a cancellation for the upcoming school holidays making the nights of 4,5,6 October available. Perhaps theres a family out there who has not yet locked in their plans for the holidays who might like to come down south for a break. The kids will love collecting eggs, feeding the animals and even Tadpoling which is very seasonal and available only for the next few weeks. We have been doing trailer rides to the creek and catching a jar full of tadpoles with the kids before releasing them for the last month or so.

13.01.2022 Farmer Pete plays Father Christmas We have had another cancellation over Christmas, meaning we now have two cottages available from the 22nd to 27th December. As its now very late in the day we thought we might offer them for 20% off normal rates and only a three night minimum stay. A Christmas gift from Four Elements.... Use the voucher code CHRISTMAS20

12.01.2022 Fruits ripe! We have a surplus of ripe fruit at them moment - the white grapes are ripe and even after harvesting theres plenty left for the kids to try when we do our trailer rides. In the orchard we have plums, red pears, figs and nashi pears all ready to eat. If you can escape during term time, nows the time to do it most of the fruit will be gone by Easter

12.01.2022 New piglets coming! Four Elements will soon receive some six week old piglets just in time for the kids coming over the Christmas holidays. We are no longer able to get Berkshire piglets so the ones we have coming are white pigs (white hair and pink skin, so they really look pink!) We are taking suggestions for names again with the chosen names earning a 15% discount voucher. Last time we came up with some fantastic names, so put your thinking caps on

11.01.2022 Baby Goats - yes its that time of the year again. Ollie our youngest lad has taken on the role of movie director to share some of the happenings around Four Elements with all our Guests children who can not visit us at the moment. This is his first movie showing the new twins harassing their Mum for milk while she is trying to eat. The game of roundy roundy is quite entertaining to watch... Ollies next effort will be up in a day or two. See you all soon

10.01.2022 Four Elements new little pigs have arrived - Harry Trotter and Hamione have been here less than 24 hours and don't trust people very much yet. They are just over 8 weeks old - and quite big already. These are white pigs - so called because they have white hair - and very obviously pink skin. They grow much faster than the Berkshires we have had in the past so they won't be cute for long.

10.01.2022 COVID 19 Update We have had a few phone calls in recent days enquiring about bookings. Just to let everyone know we have enabled the online booking system again and are accepting bookings for the October School holidays or any later time. We won't be taking deposits on these bookings at this stage - see the details on our web site https://4elements.com.au/... Our cottages are currently occupied by longer term residents and any vacancy earlier than October will be dependent on both travel restrictions being lifted and one or more of our long term residents leaving early. We will keep the booking calendar on our web site up to date with these changes. We are looking forward to seeing everyone again and should have all the storm damage tidied up and the place looking spic and span for you. Regards Sam & Peter

09.01.2022 COVID-19 Shutdown - Plan B - Long term rentals As the government will effectively shut down our short term accommodation business for a few months, we are resorting to our backup plan and making the cottages available for longer term bookings for the next 3 to 6 months. There are four cottages well spaced on our 14 acre block. Each is fully self contained with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and ample parking. We are asking $275 a week, minimum 3 month occupancy, with water, elect...ricity (within systems limits) and wireless internet access with a useful quota included. We are self sufficient for power and water. Ideal for older people wanting to distance themselves from the madding crowd during the COVID-19 pandemic or travellers now stuck in Western Australia for a time. We are within delivery areas for both Woolworths and Coles. For a small amount more we can also supply firewood, sourced from the property - a pocket money enterprise for my boys. You could not hope for a more pleasant place to spend a few months, if you know anyone who might be interested please share this post

02.01.2022 I promised the Estrano family I would post a photo of their Yabby catch. They were here to help make the Yabby traps from plastic milk bottles but missed out on pulling them out the next morning. Here what you caught kids ! Four in total and a bit snappy about being removed from the dam.

01.01.2022 We have finally completed the installation of the wood pellet fires. They have fascinated guests in the last week or two - it seems many Western Australians have not seen them before. Now when you book you can choose a cottage with a traditional wood fire OR one with the new pellet fires. For those who are not familiar with managing a traditional fire these are a great option - they light automatically and maintain a set temperature, so you will be toasty warm. Theres ...only 5 minutes maintenance to do on them each day to keep them running nicely, the pellets are relatively cheap, and they look and feel like a wood fire. The video picks up the ignition process about 5 minutes after pressing the on button. If you look carefully you will see wood pellets falling into the fire pot every so often, its not long before there is smoke and then of course fire. We have caught the male members of guests families standing around the fire watching it light completely mesmerised so we thought the video might entertain and inform

01.01.2022 in recent days we have had four new baby goats arrive. This video was taken literally a few minutes after the THIRD of the triplets was born. They are still trying to get their legs under them and find their first feed. They really are cute when they are tiny, although listening to the noise I think Mum is in for a hard time

01.01.2022 Summer Activities at Four Elements With the warmer weather arriving early this spring our thoughts are already turning to summer activities. In addition to all our other regular all year activities - gravity races, animal feeding, marron fishing, trailer rides, trapping yabbies and boomerang throwing - there a few activities that we can only offer in summer.... For a start there is lots of fruit picking with apricots, plums, peaches and red pears all enjoying a season of a few weeks in early summer. By the end of January our white wine grapes are ripe enough to eat and we encourage the kids to pick them on our trailer ride vineyard tours. The give way to the red grapes later in the season which usually last right through into May. Wine grapes are RIDICULOUSLY sweet and are very popular with the kids. Warm summer nights allow us to run lantern stalk evenings. Very popular with the 5 and up age group, this involves waiting for darkness and setting a lantern up at a strategic spot in the paddock. The kids then try to sneak up and touch the lantern without being seen by an adult guarding it. The most successful tactics to date involve storming the lantern as a group with one or two being detected and the others slipping past in the confusion. Younger kids often play in a team with Mum or Dad. As an extra bonus the chickens and ducks lay much better through the warmer months, with plenty of eggs for the kids to collect for breakfast. We still can't persuade our chickens to lay first thing in the morning so egg collecting is often done late afternoon. Make a booking, bring the kids along this summer and we will help to entertain them
