25.01.2022 Disregard the broken bell on the pipe, though it tells me the culvert was installed incorrectly as this is the down stream end ( in photos)of the culvert ( the bell should always be at the upstream end as the preceding pipe should deliver the flow into the next pipe and so on) potentially this could lead to surface flow runoff finding its way under the next pipe and lead to undermining the culvert itself, resulting in a failure of varying degrees and consequences. The imm...ediate issue in this post is the water pipe placed inside the pipe that given the right circumstances contributes/causes the build up of debris in the pipe ultimately leading to the blockage of the pipe and failure of the culvert, which is money out of your pocket The immediate fix here is to jet the pipe with high volumes and pressure of water to clear the debris in preparation for the next rain event, but this is only a bandaid. Ultimately the cycle will repeat until the culvert is decommissioned and reinstalled correctly with the water pipe buried along side instead of inside. Just a heads up yeh....

25.01.2022 Its Great to see some much needed rain, falling broadly across the East coast and inland regions. Its providing much relief to the landscape, communities, industries and ultimately economy that keeps us all going. Now is a great time to look at your property and understand whats happening with your water it also provides the best opportunity to review your management practices and embrace some new ones. I had the opportunity last yr to attend some training with Stuart Andrew...s and his team from Tarwyn Park Training, it has changed my perception on farming practices and more importantly with my back ground in earthmoving it has changed my view on the management of water. Take the time to asses your property, take photos, make notes in a diary, then have a look at the two links below they will help you understand better whats happening and plan for the future. Tarwyn Park Training ~ Natural Sequence Farming https://www.tarwynparktraining.com.au/ or follow on fbook NSW State govt guide to sediment and erosion control on unsealed roads and tracks. https://www.environment.nsw.gov.au//erosion-sediment-contr As always if you need specific advice, feel free to get in touch.

23.01.2022 Storm water runoff had subdivided this property for some time.....

17.01.2022 The Bom has forecast storms for the next few days and particularly the chance of heavy rainfall events this evening for the tweed and surrounds, if you haven't done so already now is the time to clear your drains/culverts/fences and creek crossings of debris to protect your infrastructure. If your up for it and only whilst conditions permit, it is advisable to throw on a set of gumboots in a light shower and with rake/shovel/hoe in hand, guide/train water in drains to dissip...ate (spread out) where possible onto flat ground the more you can do this, the less potential it has to be a destructive force, saving you money, retaining precious topsoil and re-hydrating the landscape. If your lucky enough to have a full dam and are worried about a large event putting pressure on your dam wall/infrastructure, consider turning on the pump and using the principles above of dissipating the energy. Create a buffer of say 20% in your dams capacity (which is advisable to maintain in a storm season ) this will leave water in the dam to absorb the energy of upstream flows and take considerable pressure of your dam wall / spillway. I appreciate this isn't practical in all circumstances given the amount of notice, however the principle applies, are proven and will save you money in the long run. As always, if you have any particular concerns give me a call

16.01.2022 NUMINBAH Ck just now, and yep put that crossing back up yesterday

07.01.2022 Heads up everyone, hopefully looking at some rain in coming days, (Northern Rivers NSW) save yourself some money. Clean out your culverts and drains - leaves, silt etc. You could still loose a set of keys in some of the cracks in the ground from the dry, so expect erosion and slips in a heavy event. If you'd like specific advise, give me a call no problem.

04.01.2022 Being self employed offers the opportunity to have a job or own a business, in choosing which you desire, you need to understand why your doing it and then it’s not a choice at all .....
