22.01.2022 Last Saturday 13th brought the finale of the Sydney Flying Squadron Historic 18 footers race season. -This was a Sprint Race course in the Mark Foy tradition ..... ( 3 separate one lap races, all in clear view of the Rosman spectator ferry & punters ) -The racing was nail biting, with the leader changing often, in the easing breeze. -'Aberdare' (aptly called the "Galloping Ghost" ) raced consistently in the fluky conditions for wins in races 1 & 2. ... - By race 3 the wind had eased even further, to leave the fleet becalmed at times, coming into the Athol Bay rounding buoy. -With a nod from our wily brains trust tactician aboard 'Scot' we tacked away from the mark, keeping the boat moving long enough to tack back to lay the mark first. - From there we were out of the gate for the short spinnaker leg down & around the next Buoy off Clarke Island. - Once on this next leg to the finish, it was time to put up all the washing ! Time for the "Russian" ( Red & Yellow Peak head spinnaker ) - A marvellous debut for this Russian beauty, bringing us a win in the last race of the season !
