24.01.2022 Wishing you all a week as peaceful as these photos of the Shared Support crew at Newcastle Museum and Coldrock Ice-Creamery last month! In addition to the peace meaning, the crew also enjoyed the diversity of the hand sign, opting to use them to give one another bunny ears throughout the day In amongst the mucking around, everyone was interested cruising by Merewether Beach to check on the surf and the Steam Show and the Old Tram at the Museum ... There was also a lot of interest in the snittys and burgers that were had for lunch at Queens Wharf Hotel following the museum trip too There was a sweet end to the great day out with an ice cream treat from coldrock(prime &usage too).
24.01.2022 Like many other interactions in 2020, Birthday celebrations look a little different! One of our carers, Jake (whos also a talented photographer @jakehadlow) took these beautiful photos of Dillion during his birthday earlier this year. Were interested to hear what youve done differently or creatively this year. ... Something that weve done is starting our online weekly Bingo Session, so that there a safe place for the community to come together. Were obviously not the only ones though - have you or your business done anything different / creative / pivoted during this time? Let us know
22.01.2022 Julys COTM is Brooke! Brooke is an active, engaged and all-round wonderful team player. Think water fights, home-made dinners, camping trips & a go get em attitude Brooke has also shown a keen eye for ways to promote and encourage independence. Brooke passion is undisputable & if its thinking outside of the box your after, Brookes your person!
22.01.2022 Started from the bottom, now were here A few weeks ago Phoenix and Nathan took on Mt Tomaree, and its clear who came out on top! @ The Summit - Port Stephens

20.01.2022 MADE WITH love, laughter and lots of fun! Homemade Sausage Rolls and Chocolate Brownies were on the menu for a recent Shared Support cooking session! Image description in alt-text as always
18.01.2022 It was all hands on deck for a recent Winter Warmers Cooking session at The Hub. If youre going to eat comfort food, as were sure were not the only ones whove indulged lately , we can recommend home-made to minimise added nasties. Shared Support recently made KFC and followed with a big old fruit salad! Weve also added and extra cooking program to Shared Support on Thursdays (in addition the running Games Days). More info can be found in our calendars in our website (in bio) @ 4U Care
18.01.2022 In a heartwarming gesture, the team spent over a month learning the song to surprise their hearing-impaired teammate. - shared again incase anyone missed the video we posted in our stories yesterday
18.01.2022 Look, were not entirely sure why, but cupcakes definitely seem to taste better than regular cake. We feel like it might have something to do with consuming them while theyre still warm, along with a cup of tea and by the people who made them
15.01.2022 SPRUNG! A big part of the adventure is making plans and finding great places to visit. Maggie and Leannes choice to visit Hunter Region Botanic Gardens in the first week of spring received a 5 flower review
14.01.2022 Augusts COTM is Chris! We realised it was recently our Chris-iversary! Chris brings many great qualities to the carers A -Team, including an open mind and a creative flair.... Over the course of our first year together other qualities have come to light too, such as Chriss ability to stay calm under pressure, respect boundaries and work towards achieving the best possible outcome for everyone. Were not alone in this appreciation either, as weve had great feedback from the support networks Chris is involved in as well. Congratulations Chris, a COTM well deserved!
13.01.2022 Chux-ing a party! Well be sure to file that under Things that the Girls Night Out crew do well @ Wallsend, New South Wales
12.01.2022 The message for R U OK?Day 2020 is: THERES MORE TO SAY AFTER R U OK? 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, be willing to support those around us. In the lead-up to R U OK?Day well help Australians know what to say when someone says theyre not OK and guide them through how they can continue a conversation that could change a life.... You dont have to be an expert to keep the conversation going when someone says theyre not OK. By knowing what to say you can help someone feel supported and access appropriate help long before theyre in crisis, which can make a really positive difference to their life. Learn what to say after R U OK? and download the FREE resources for tips and ideas to help you share the message in your community. https://irp-cdn.multiscreensite.com//RUOKDay2020_GuidetoSu

09.01.2022 Phoenix, Samson and Nathan (who jumped on the other side of the camera) all went for a cruise along the ANZAC walk and Merewether Beach last month. Samson recently joined the Carers Team and was getting to know Phoenix ahead of an upcoming support with him. Buddy Shifts provide many opportunities to learn and build upon supports. Theyre also a part of our recruitment process before carers come aboard (if you cant tell, were big fans). ... P.S anyone try to wipe that smudge off their screen before realising it was a bird? Yeah, us neither.
08.01.2022 MATES When theres a safe space and youre surrounded by great people, its hard not to make them. Case in point with Zac and Brett here
08.01.2022 A couple of Fridays ago the Shared Support crew were ticking boxes faster than we could ask what-have-you-guys-been-up-to? Surfcheck at Merewether Beach Coffee break at Blue-door Lawnbowls at Merewether Bowling Club Quick trip to IGA ... Picnic Lunch at Dixon Park A couple of games on the wii to wind down back at The Hub Weve also been busy behind the scenes, updating our plans, supplies and protocols. As the COVID situations continues to change, the safety of our staff and participants remains our top priority. More on this to come @ Merewether Beach

08.01.2022 Think GLOBAL, act LOCAL A big thank you to Diana at Jones Living who turned our order around (for over face masks) quick smart! We even got 3 different sizes and a range of patterns and colours - so theres a mask to suit every one of our carers.... Each mask has been paired with hand sanitisers as well, as theres no mucking around when it comes to the safety of our staff, participants and the community. We look forward to being able to feature these fun, colourful, practical and comfortable masks in our future updates.
06.01.2022 THINGS THAT COME FIRST: Olivia and Safety! Weve also introduced some strict COVID Protocols at the hub including: Temperature checks Compulsory sanitizing Collecting contact tracing details Access to masks Strict cleaning regimens Well be following NSW Health updates, as well as keeping our 4u Care community updated on any changes. Have a safe and happy weekend everyone
04.01.2022 Welcome to Camp Andie andddd start your engines! Andie, Bre and Kirrally were all about the quad bikes and marshmallows on their recent camping trip. Everyone was involved in picking up sticks for the campfire too, which is a good call if youre trying to warm up! A bbq definitely helped too. ... Have you got a favourite thing to do while camping?
03.01.2022 They took the whole bag off me! Lots of laughs were had at the Hunter Valley Zoo recently! Shirnia lost a bag of food to the sheep and goats in the first enclosure, but the laughs kept coming when she saw the carers were scared of the jumping goats Everyone was brave and took turns feeding the animals, and after theyd warmed up it was all laughing and excitement. We even managed to get videos of Steven, Brice and Mitch feeding the camels (check out our stories) ... When all of the animal food was gone, the team headed to Potters Hotel & Brewery for their own food and to recap on their experiences - cue more laughter! Check out the comment section for more photos
02.01.2022 Gifted and disability, you can be both, but theyre often not put together. - Jess Kellar
02.01.2022 "Society still has these misperceptions that people who stutter are less intelligent, people who stutter must be nervous or lying. All of those misperceptions fed into the fear," he tells ABC RNs Sunday Extra. He recalls explaining to his kids over the dinner table that its a bit like his Canadian accent. "Sometimes daddy might go buh buh buh and daddy might slide on a word. But this is just part of my accent. This is just the way the words come out. Its not good or bad, right? I dont love or hate my stutter. I have become indifferent to it."
