04.01.2022 Hi All FICU sub-committee members, Over the past month a lot has changed and unfortunately some great workers have resigned their positions due to unbelievable circumstances. As usual in times of change things get blown out of proportion and Chinese whispers create mountains out of issues that could have been resolved by better communication.... This committee is full of passionate people who spend countless hours to co-ordinate and run one of the largest beach clean-ups in the world. This passion and commitment is great for the event but also can give rise to disruption and anguish when people feel they have great ideas that are not supported by the majority. I have seen this occur on several occasions over the past 6 years while on the Management Committee and have also witnessed how the FICU sub-committee pulls together, rally’s new members and uses this to provide new enthusiasm to make the event better every year. It is important to reflect on why we run this event. It’s good for the community, it’s a great celebration how our close 4wd community can rally together to clear tons of rubbish off one of the worlds most iconic destinations and its good for our younger members to witness the comradeship and true meaning of being responsible users of the environment. I will be calling for new volunteers at our next reps meeting and asking the FICU secretary to call a meeting next month to bring everyone up to date and create a list of jobs so we can get things moving again.
