24.01.2022 The 18th of August each years marks the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan and is also recognised as Vietnam Veterans Day in Australia. We commemorate those who served and sacrificed; those who lost their lives on deployment or returned home injured or ill; those who have suffered in the years since; and those who have thrived. We are thankful for the support and love of our families and our comrades-in-arms. ... As an Association we recommit to always looking after our family and upholding our aims. The Last Post Ceremony today will be for PTE Whiston, KIA on this day in 1966 while serving with 6 RAR. You can follow the ceremony at the link below. Take care. 22.01.2022 Today we remember Lance Corporal Andrew Jones, a member of the Battalion’s deployment during MTF-2. ‘Jonesy’ served with Charlie and Delta companies during the deployment. He was murdered by an Afghan soldier while serving on a patrol base in the Chora Valley. We remember not the manner of his passing, but the good bloke that he was and the joy and service he got from looking after his mates. We remember also the heroic efforts of all those who did their best to save Jonesy.... Vale.

21.01.2022 Karl James, head of Military History at the Australian War Memorial, recounts the day Australia announced it was at war, 3 September 1939, which was also Father's Day that year. #OneInAMillion #TYFYS

17.01.2022 Today marks 75 days until we commemorate 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and with it, the first of our 75 stories in 75 days telling some of... the stories of the thousands of Australians who served. Our first story is that of Hilda Gray who served in the Women’s Land Army. I encourage you to listen to Hilda’s story, as well as all those we post in the lead-up to this important anniversary. Thank you for your service Hilda. #TYFYS #OneInAMillion

13.01.2022 From the 6th to the 8th of June 1969 soldiers from Delta and Bravo Company, 5 RAR supported by tanks and APCs from the 1st Armoured Regiment and 3rd Cavalry Regiment as well as fire support from the 105th Field Battery fought a ferocious battle against soldiers from the 33rd NVA Regiment and Viet Cong D440 Provincial Mobile Battalion in Binh Ba village in an engagement that came to be known as the Battle of Binh Ba. The battle saw the soldiers of the Tiger Battalion involved ...in close quarters, house-to-house fighting in one of the few such actions for Australian forces in the Vietnam War. The tenacity of the enemy was bettered only by the outstanding tactics, grit, bravery and comradeship of the Aussie Diggers. Private Wayne Teeling was Killed in Action on the 6th of June and 11 other Australia soldiers were wounded. We commemorate Binh Ba for the courage, teamwork and sacrifice of the Battalion's members and their comrades-in-arms from the Armoured and Artillery units. Lest we forget. (Pictures: Private Wayne Teeling and soldiers of 5 RAR seen advancing into Binh Ba village.)

12.01.2022 What soldiers do after they leave the service should not be constrained to the trade they have in the Army. 5 RAR soldiers from all periods are great examples of this. More recently we've had a couple of artists in the mix who served during Mentoring Task Force - 2 in Afghanistan. Mick Bowers work is displayed at the link below and we hope to share the work of Rory Cushnanhan soon also. https://michaeldavidbowers.wixsite.com/mickfinnartist

09.01.2022 On this day we commemorate the service of Private James C. Webster. Private Webster was called up in the first national service intake. He was a member of B Company, 5 RAR and was Killed In Action in the Long Hai Hills mine incident on 21 February 1967.

01.01.2022 VIETNAM VANGUARD LAUNCHED! Twenty-seven contributing authors of this book were involved in the 1966 deployment of the 1st Australian Task Force into Phuoc Tuy Province. This formation was the first Australian Army force larger than an infantry battalion group to be deployed into a major war since World War 11. 5th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment (5 RAR), was in vanguard as the task force's first element committed to operations to seize and occupy Nui Dat base and emb...ark on establishing dominance over the enemy. The book has been reviewed by Canadian journalist Daryl Henry who spent six months with the Marines out of Dong Ha, then ventured south to Nui Dat and accompanied Recce Platoon during Operation Renmark comparing the American and Australian ways of war.
