It’s been less than four months since I knocked on Minister Victor Dominello’s door and asked how the government could help our smaller hospitality venues emerge from COVID-19. We’re thrilled that 27 venues have signed up to the trial, which will allow small bars to close at 2am and restaurants to close at midnight, or 10pm on Sundays. Venues will also be able to sell a wider variety of drinks, including cocktails, after 10pm. The venues are 5 Sawyers, Babylon Newcastle, Bao Brothers, Basement on Market St, Beach Burrito Company, Blue Kahunas, Coal and Cedar, Civic Theatre Newcastle, Grain Store, Harbour Bar and Grill, Honeysuckle Social, Kitami King St., The Koutetsu, Milky Lane, MEET, MoneyPenny, Scratchleys, Signal Box Newcastle, subo, The Beehive Honeysuckle, The Dockyard, The Edwards, The Falcon Restaurant, The Landing bar & kitchen, Three Bears Kitchen, Uptowns and Valerie's Pizza Parlour. Newcastle council unanimously voted tonight to amend trading conditions on these venues for the trial, and a thank you goes to the Council staff who have worked hard towards tonight’s outcome.
