25.01.2022 On Thursday this week the club held its first real event since the Shannon's Classic Car Show in early March. Due to the relaxing of laws in WA, group gatherings are now allowed up to 20 people so with that in mind, Arthur and Sandra Wallis organised a run and picnic. Twenty members met in Mundaring and set off on a drive through the hills to the east, passing through Chidlow and Wooroloo prior to a tech stop at the Bakers Hill Bakery for a welcome coffee. Then it was up t...o Clackline and across to Toodyay where we assembled in one of the local parks for a picnic lunch. With just twenty members social distancing was not a problem. The weather was perfect for a drive day and it was great to see that Toodyay was bustling with visitors making the most of the weather and the relaxing of Covid-19 laws. Thanks very much to Arthur and Sandra for organising the first of the many events we hope will take place over the rest of the year. See more

23.01.2022 Austin Healey 3000

21.01.2022 Today our club held a Gentleman's Lunch, the first for quite a while due to Covid19 restrictions. We started with a visit to the Veteran Car Club stores and workshops in Forrestfield. Twenty three members turned up. Our club has its monthly meetings in the VCC clubrooms but only a few members knew what facilities are at the back. Our tour guide was VCC member Murray Lizatovich and after current Covid19 regs were complied with we visited the club library, the parts store f...ollowed by the workshops which comprise an upholstery section, a mechanical section and the wood working section. The wood working section actually manufactures new wooden spokes for veteran car wheels plus other replacement wooden parts. Ingenious lathe equipment, designed and built by VCC members, enables manufacture of wooden spokes of almost any shape and size. Certainly a fascinating process to watch. After to tour was completed all but three members adjourned to the Ascot on Swan Restaurant for our Gentleman's Lunch. The weather was fine and sunny, it was a great day to have the Healey out. Don Sutherland showed off his latest restoration, a beautiful Jensen 541. Well done Don. Many thanks to Murray Lizatovich for showing us all the VCC workshops. A most enjoyable day. See more

21.01.2022 Yesterday the club had its annual Presentation Lunch at the Wembley Hotel. Forty six members attended and thoroughly enjoyed the 3 course meal and drinks provided. The hotel provided a private room with table service which added to the afternoon's enjoyment. After the main course club president Bill Richards presented the annual awards to the worthy recipients. Best magazine article: Jule Coleman for her article about last year's Winter Woolies weekend. President's Award: P...eter Hayward for his unfailing Treasurer's reports despite having work commitments in various parts of the world. Clubmanship Award: Nigel Egginton for going above and beyond his role as Social Secretary in organising all the social events. Club Champion: Paul Robertson. Many thanks to Nigel and Christine Egginton for organising the luncheon in the face of the Covid19 pandemic and the social difficulties associated with it. It was a great afternoon. See more

17.01.2022 Please take the survey and do your bit to keep this iconic scenic drive open to vehicles so everybody can enjoy the magnificent views of Perth and surrounds.

17.01.2022 Some more detail: For Sale: Gidget the Peking to Paris Healey 100. Offers invited in the region of AUD$60-65k. Gidget was the first Healey to participate and co...mplete the Peking to Paris Challenge. We took part in the 2019 event, and were one of only 22 cars which drove every inch of the event. We were never towed, flat bedded or bogged. We finished in 29th place overall, 16th in class (Classic over 2L) and 5th in the European Cup. The car is heavily modified for endurance rallying, and, let’s be honest, is never going to be a concours car. She’s a 50 footer. She looks great from 50 feet away. Not so much close up! Part of the reason for this is that, to save weight, there is no bog on the bodywork, and only one coat of undercoat, and one coat of Coronet Cream top coat. And she took a pounding on the rally, so there are a few dings and dents in the panels. But she is now solid, strong and very reliable. She starts on the button, runs cool, stops on a sixpence, and goes strongly all day. Background history: One of ~500 Coronet Cream Austin Healey 100 BN1s built to celebrate the Queen’s coronation Build date January 1954 Built for the US market - no history from there except that she started life in California Shipped to SA sometime in the early 1980’s (when she was converted from LHD to RHD) She lived in SA until ~2014, when she came to Sydney I bought her in 2015 So, what did we do to her (it’s a long list, and the full build is documented on Giles’ blog starting here: https://austin-healeypekingtoparis2019.blogspot.com//0004-)? Three principles were adopted: 1/. Make her strong 2/. Make her lighter with more ground clearance 3/. Ensure she runs cool (Healey’s have a reputation for running hot) Full strip of the bodywork and all running gear off the chassis back to a bare chassis (except the bulkhead, which is welded to the chassis) Cut out and replaced all the rust and accident damage; primarily this was on driver’s side, and the front cross member Gusseted and reinforced all the suspension pick-up points; boxed in the rear shock absorber mounts; welded on pick up points for the undertrays Passenger door and sill redesigned to accomodate side-exit exhaust Rebuilt the car from the ground up, replacing everything. Literally everything. All the suspension parts, all bushes, all springs replaced with Denis Welch parts (including 800lb rally rear springs - which were hopeless - see below!) Replaced the BN1 rear axle with a refurbished BN2 unit. The diff was rebuilt and both axles replaced with Denis Welch units; all bearings and seals replaced. Gearbox was replaced with a rebuilt W50 (Toyota Supra) 5 speed unit. New driveshaft was built to suit the new gearbox and axle. New floor panels welded in; new boot panels welded in; new rear bumper carriers welded in. Gearbox cover was redesigned to allow it to be removed, so the gearbox can come out through the cabin (rather than having to take the engine out). Front wings rebuilt (rust along the bottom edge was cut out and replaced) and vents cut in to allow hot air out. All lines were re-routed from under the car to through the cabin - fuel comes through under the navigator, electrics and brake lines under the driver. All electrics from under the bonnet were re-designed to be on the cabin side of the bulkhead; a new wiring loom was built to accomodate a modern fuse-box and bus bar to run auxiliary services. Engine was stripped and everything except the block was thrown away (actually, I made a lamp out of the crank!) Engine was line-bored and rebuilt using Denis Welch everything - balanced crank, harmonic balancer, alloy head, camshafts and followers, rods, pistons and all bearings. we specifically built a low compression engine (9.5:1) to cope with poor fuel; even so, running 92Ron fuel, the engine was dyno-tuned at 98hp and 180foot pounds of torque. the sump was cut-and-shut to reduce the height, so it would fit under the bash-plate; in doing so we increased the capacity of the sump to 8L Distributor was rebuilt and a spare distributor head also rebuilt and adjusted to the car, then removed as a spare. Twin H4 SU carburettors were refurbished and refitted; foam air filter fitted; ducting to direct air from front cowl fitted Water pump and mechanical fan were deleted and replaced with Craig Davies electric water pump and fan. Radiator was replaced with Red Devil 3-way radiator (with in-built water to oil cooler, which we never needed to use); the radiator is rubber mounted to prevent it flexing with the chassis. Cowling was fitted to force all air through the radiator (with a seperate cowl directing fresh air to the carburettors); original grille replaced with high-flow (75%) stainless steel mesh. Fuel system fitted as follows: replacement aluminium 40L tank fitted as per original location; additional 20L auxiliary tank fitted above 40L with gravity feed and tap to isolate; glass-bowl fuel filter with water release valve and dual SU pumps (able to be separately activated from the cabin) fitted to the inside of the rear left wheel arch, mounted on a rubber-mounted plate; rubber hosing throughout the boot, steel fuel lines from boot through cabin, rubber hosing under the bonnet. Cabin fitout as follows: original seats replaced with MGF Trophy seats (half-leather, half cloth), hard mounted to the floor (suit 6’1 driver and navigator); original 17 steering wheel replaced with 15 MotoLita leather covered period wheel; central electrical control panel mounted on top of the gearbox cowl - this houses the following switches: ignition, kill, 2x fuel pumps, driving lights, cabin, underbonnet and boot lights. Also has 2x 1kg fire extinguishers mounted on top all original dials refurbished (speedometer, tachometer, water temp and oil pressure; fuel gauge); additional oil temperature gauge added in front of navigator. door cards replaced with customised cards including storage space for water bottles, suncream etc additional arm rest built between the seats to provide discrete storage for e.g. phones, wallets etc original glovebox tray refitted under dash, with cargo netting to prevent contents bouncing around lightweight marine carpet fitted throughout (this doesn’t absorb water, so dries quickly) Full-length ventilated bash plate fitted; 6mm alloy from front to behind gearbox, 3mm alloy from there to rear valance, covering rear axle and fuel tank. Half-cage fitted, with rear-facing struts braced to back of the chassis; mounted to the wheel-arches with plates. Fitted over-sized 195x85x15 tyres to gain some extra ground clearance - dry with no passengers she has 8.5inches of ground clearance to the bash plate. She weighs ~850kg wet but unloaded. So that’s about it - obviously she’s been run-in since then, and particularly the undertray has been well used. The only mechanical issues we encountered on the rally were: we broke two rear springs which are now replaced with Russian-sourced, cobbled-together springs - the rolled-ends of the original springs had to be cut off and welded and riveted to the Lada springs we could get - these would benefit from being taken out and perhaps being replaced with e.g. Toyota Hilux uprated springs mud got into the bellhousing on a particularly wet and muddy stage, and destroyed the graphite clutch bearing; this would benefit from being replaced with a roller-type bearing we had to buy-pass the ignitiion switch as it got Gobi desert dust in it, and we had to adjust the points out once when we lost power in Germany, otherwise the electrics caused no problems at all we lost a headlight and a sidelight glass on the very rough climb on day 9 in Mongolia - they shook out; the headlights are now left-dipping Vaz headlights (fitted in Novosibirsk, and the sidelight glass is now a coke bottle) Asking AUD$60-65k for her as she is, with excellent provenance and ready for her next custodian to decide what to do with her. She comes with several boxes of spares and a hard top which needs rubbing back, painting and fitting. Happy to discuss shipping to wherever from Sydney - let's face it, she's used to life on the water :)

15.01.2022 We can't imagine there are too many one-owner Austin-Healey Sprites out there anymore, but amazingly - here's one!

11.01.2022 Vanavond foto’s gemaakt van deze Austin Healey 100-6 rally uitvoering. Origineel nieuw Nederlands geleverde Healey. Opgevoerde motor. Fantastische rally auto. Binnen kort online.

09.01.2022 Yesterday the club's annual champagne and pancake breakfast was held as always, in the magnificent gardens of Rod And Hazel Lloyd. Rod and Hazel put in a huge effort to ensure their garden was as picturesque as it could be to entertain the 65 members and 12 other guests who turned up to be treated to a wonderful spread of pancakes and fresh fruits along with lashings of whipped cream and yoghurt. As usual the pancake stations were manned by Lloyd family members, Sarah, Ebon...y, Sylvia and Josh who did a fantastic job producing sufficient pancakes to keep everybody happy. The front yard, driveway and street verge looked like the holding yard at Abingdon with 26 Healeys parked there. What great sight it was. It was great to see country members Janice and Chris Wilding make the pilgrimage all the way from Wongan Hills to catch up with old friends. New members Linda and Fred Singleton from Northam turned up in their newly acquired BJ7 which was purchased from Arthur Wallis. The weather was fantastic and the day was probably the most well attended event of the year. Thanks to all the members who turned up and of course a special thanks to Rod and Hazel and their family for making it a wonderful and enjoyable day. See more

08.01.2022 All Austin and Morris Day was held in conjunction with the Stirling Square Markets in Guildford today. With fantastic weather 16 big Healeys, 3 Sprites and an Austin J40 graced the lawns of Stirling Square. And what a fantastic turnout of Healeys it was. New members Alan and Adriana showed off their recently acquired 100/4, what a stunning car. Also Mal and Joy Brown brought along their restored J40 pedal car, a little beauty too. It was also great to see 4 grandsons of members come along to view the fine machinery. There were also plenty of Austin and Morris cars and utilities on display. The markets and food stalls were in full swing and a constant stream of people showed great interest in our display. Thanks to Darrel and Sue Manning for organising the our display, it was much appreciated.

07.01.2022 Here is a video of the All Austin/Morris Day at Guildford recently. Our Healeys feature well.

06.01.2022 Earlier this month the Shannon's Classic Car show was held at the Ascot Racecourse. A very sunny, and warm, day ensured there was a huge crowd coming through the gate for most of the day to view some 900 vehicles from most of the car clubs in Perth. Sixteen Healey club members took their pride and joy along for display so we managed quite a good cross section of models. Thanks to Darrel and Sue Manning for organising the members to get their cars to the show. Due to the Current COVID-19 crisis, this was the last club event for the forseeable future as the committee has taken the decision to cancel all club meetings and events.

05.01.2022 Today the club had a drive to Beverley for a picnic lunch. About 9 Healeys and 2 tin tops assembled in Kelmscott on what seemed to be dreary morning weather-wise. After a short driver's briefing we set off up the Brookton Hwy then via Westdale Road to Beverley where we stopped for lunch at the Apex Park next to the river. The weather had changed to a mostly sunny and warmish winter's day. The return journey had most of the group travelling via Talbot West Road, Gt Southern and Gt Eastern Hwys back to the city. Talbot West Road would have to be one of the best driving roads in the country....what an absolute cracker of a road. Thanks to Nigel Egginton for organising today's run. It was most enjoyable.

04.01.2022 Today we had a brunch run starting at Midland, through the hills of Kalamunda to Mal and Joy Brown's house in the bush setting of Roleystone. About fifteen Healeys made the drive. The gorgeous sunny day highlighted the Brown's outdoor entertaining area, overlooking the plains to the west. It wasn't long before the aroma of cooking bacon and eggs was wafting through the garden. As usual Mal and Joy provided the perfect setting to enjoy our brunch. Later we wandered over to Mal's 'shed' to check out all his projects and there was plenty to look at. Thanks to Mal and Joy for their hospitality and to Nigel Egginton for organising the drive and the day.
