24.01.2022 Officeworks to be run on renewable energy within five years Officeworks this week released its ‘Positive Difference Plan’, which outlines the next five years of sustainable practices for the home & office goods retailer. Between 2020 and 2025, Officeworks will transition to using only renewable power in order to hit net-zero emissions, and will aim to support its team, reduce its environmental impact and source its products in sustainable and responsible ways.... Our 2025 plan has been integrated throughout our business, demonstrated by the breadth of our commitments, Officeworks managing director Sarah Hunter said. It’s critical to our future success and delivering sustainable growth over the long term. For us, these commitments exist not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because they are good for business. To meet its net-zero emissions target, Officeworks will install solar panels on 80 stores in the next few years, and will be exploring other ways to increase its renewable energy usage. Plus the Restoring Australia Initiative, which has already planted 639,000 trees on behalf of customers, is aiming to reach two million trees to act as a carbon sink, and provide environments for Australia’s endangered wildlife. Officeworks’ commitment follows it’s 2020 plan, through which it recycled 86 per cent of its waste and achieve FSC certification or 100 per cent recycled paper for 90 per cent of all its paper sold.
24.01.2022 So, What Exactly Is Long-Duration Energy Storage? Everyone’s talking about it, and Californians are buying in. Here’s what you need to know about this emerging grid sector. A new watchword: Long-duration storage is a critical missing piece of the energy transition....Continue reading

10.01.2022 Let the Energizer bunny power your home Energizer Homepower solar battery launches in Australia Home batteries will be the biggest thing in home upgrades over the next five to ten years following the huge Aussie trend toward solar, Batteries offer storage for that power you generate for you to then use at night and one of the biggest names in batteries is getting in on the game with the Energizer Homepower battery launching in Australia. Sure there are other brands on the m...arket like Sonnen, or even big names like Tesla but you try and tell me the Energizer brand doesn’t have huge pulling power and sales force when it puts itself alongside those with the Energizer Homepower here in Australia. Home batteries allow homes fitted with Solar panels to maximise their return on investment by utilising more of the generated power at the home rather than relying on the grid at peak times. Wider unit showing expanded Energizer Homepower system The Energizer Homepower has a nice sleek design, with a 6.1kWh capacity, but as with all these systems can be expanded to connect to additional storage if needed. And it’s all controlled and monitored via an easy to use app. Tigran Aganesov, boss of Aussie distributor Entel Holdings says Energizer Homepower is well-positioned to give homeowners a premium option that utilises smart technology to give control back to rooftop solar customers, enabling homeowners to store and use their solar energy more effectively, The Energizer Homepower solar battery combines Energizer’s performance and reliability as the maker of the world’s longest-lasting AA battery1 with smart features that significantly shorten the time for a return on investment. The batteries also look incredible, a great fit for any home. The system’s weatherproof design also makes it suitable for indoor and outdoor installation, Mr Aganesov said. Energizer Homepower unit shown on its own in black Energizer Homepower batteries come with a 10 year warranty and should cost between $7500 and $8500 depending on installer

07.01.2022 A win-win': New rooftop solar technology could boost household earnings :) Network congestion is stopping millions of Australians selling their surplus solar power to the electricity grid, but a trial of new technology to unblock the network could deliver a hip-pocket boost to householders across the country. The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) is working with network operators and fitting smart inverter technology to 600 houses in areas where the network is most... constrained so access to feed-in tariffs for supplying the grid is fairer. Most rooftop panels lack technology to regulate supply into the grid. "With household solar continuing to grow, it is really critical that we can maximise the potential of rooftop solar," said ARENA chief executive Darren Miller. Export limits are placed on rooftop solar panels at the time of installation, which disadvantages households that had their panels installed most recently particularly in areas with the highest uptake of panels. Also, most rooftop panels lack technology to regulate supply into the grid and ramp output up or down in response to the network capacity, which reaches peak load in the middle of hot days. Because those panels cannot regulate output, to avoid overload, networks have to set limits calculated by capacity on the sunniest day. That means the opportunity to take maximum power supply on cooler days is missed. "Just as we wouldn't stop people driving just because the roads are gridlocked a few hours a week, it is not fair to stop people exporting solar power from their homes just because the grid is congested a few hours a week or a few days a year," Mr Miller said. "At present, solar owners who got in early are able to sell their surplus electricity back to the grid without limits, but late adopters are restricted which is also unfair." ARENA and network operators AusNet in Melbourne and SA Power Networks in South Australia are conducting the trials, worth a total of $4.8 million. The new smart inverters will be installed to regulate power supply according to the network's current load, maximising the volume of power which can be supplied at any given time. "A smart and flexible solution for solar energy exports is a win-win," said Andrew McConnell of AusNet Services. "It means more Australian homes and businesses can benefit from solar panels, and that our energy mix becomes cleaner overall." Australian government feed-in tariffs for households that supply solar power to the grid have led the country to the highest installation rate in the world. More than 2 million of the nation's 13 million homes have been fitted with panels. Around 200,000 rooftop solar systems are being installed each year across the country.
