We have just been advised that the restoration of "Lyndhurst" (Egan House) has been short listed for the 2020 National Trust Heritage Award for Conservation - Heritage Build. We are so chuffed to think the first stage of our little project has been recognised this way! ... No doubt we'll be up against some amazing expensive conservation projects, but so pleased that we've made it this far! 22.01.2022 We think this is soooo exciting - the first of the restored frieze went up late this afternoon! A lot more work to do yet!

22.01.2022 Soooo Restoration had started on the old boarding house, of course, veranda comes first! However as you can imagine we discover things as we dig, scrap, remove & repair.. I'm hoping that one of our many followers may know a person by the name of J Hough... J Hough may have boarded at the Convent from sometime after 1955 until maybe 1966.... We would love to know who this person was, just so I can return a little article we've found!! Please share this around!

22.01.2022 And just like that! The old door sill munched away by white ants is gone & a perfect example of repurposing, with enough of the old rotten verandah beam now being turned into the new door sills! That's what we love to see!

20.01.2022 Recently rebuilt an internal wall out of reclaimed clinker bricks to show where the original kitchen fireplace chimney was! We could of just boringly bricked it over, but that's just not in us! 20.01.2022 Sneak peak at the restored pressed metal ceilings in Egan House. We originally thought we'd replace the cornices with ones a lot larger, (mainly to hide the wall damage) until we found the original cornices where Cedar! We didn't want to remove them, they were restored along with replastering the walls, what a great outcome!

Today we recieved a wonderful three page letter from a lovely 95 year old lady who attended Egan House many many years ago to learn Pitmans Shorthand & Typing, all of which she excelled in! She fondly recalled to us in her letter adventures she'd had with girlfriends & the Nuns at the Convent. She also touched on some history of the Inverell diamond mines!! Stories & local history is always captivating! 09.01.2022 It's been a while since we've had an update! One thing we've been working on is the restoration & reuse of all the original external convent house doors. Unfortunately, I didn't have many photos of the doors before we started which would have truly shown their derelict state. We replaced all the broken & miss coloured glass panes with the closest matching green glass obtainable, replaced eaten out door treads & jams, manipulating & bending new timbers to make it all fit....... It's been an ongoing process with just a few little touches to go! We are very lucky to have a great crew coming on this journey with us Janine Gallegos Mcgrath Jayden Mcgrath. See more

06.01.2022 It's been a while since we've posted, but don't fear.... Work hasn't stopped! We have done a bit of demolition work, removing the room from the back of the buildings, which was an asbestos addition well after the original construction, and then recreating what was the original verandah area. We have also worked on separating the boys boarding house from the convent house, this will showcase the buildings as individual to their era of construction, Victorian & Federation. We a...re also working on restoring the French doors & main doorways of the Convent House and finishing restoration of the outside windows. The timber work on the doorway stair treads, architraves & door jams needing to be replaced as water & white ant munching has made them beyond repair! We have reclaimed and/or replaced the glass in the doors with as close to the original green glass as we are able to source! They are looking stunning!! See more
