12.01.2022 Today we celebrated the birthday of our current Mascot, PTE Ridgleigh Blue IV who turned 1 on 07 June 2020, just a day after celebrating the Battalion Birthday. He enjoyed himself, being spoiled by the Battalion with a juicy bone. PTE Blue is the fourth Mascot to serve the Unit. This tradition dated back to 1975 where the Commanding Officer ordered the Battalion 2IC to obtain a Blue Heeler as the Battalions Mascot which served for 2 years. In 1978, the next Blue was given ...to the Battalion by 8/9 RAR during an exercise in Shoalwater Bay as somewhat of a joke given the Battalion did not have a Mascot at the time. 8/9 RAR obtained a wretched old Blue Heeler from the pound by the 8/9 RAR Padre who was promptly named WART by the troops. The dog was left as a surprise gift in the command post during a relief in place activity. The Commanding Officer at the time, LTCOL Harris kept the dog, and on return to the barracks ordered the dog cleaned, wormed, and marched in as the Battalions Mascot. On 29 November 2011, PTE Ridgleigh Blue III was officially registered as the Units Mascot and retired on 27 November 2019 as a Sergeant. Blue was re-homed in a rural setting in South Australia after proudly serving 8 years within the Battalion. PTE Ridgleigh Blue IV is doing well and continuing with his training to lead the Battalion in years to come. #BrisbanesBest #BrisbaneGrown #DutyFirst 8th/9th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment

10.01.2022 Today we remembered 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiments Private Nathan Bewes, who was killed in action while serving in Afghanistan 10 years ago on the 9...th July 2010. A small service was held at 6 RAR with his family today to pay tribute to the great soldier he was. PTE Bewes joined the Army in 2005 at age 19 and served his career at 6 RAR. By the time he was deployed to Afghanistan in early 2010, he had already served in East Timor, and completed a previous tour to Afghanistan. In five years he had already experienced more than many do in a lifetime of service. In contact with the enemy, PTE Bewes was fearless. He never took a step backward and was always one of the first to go outside the wire. The respect his peers and superiors had for him was not just based on his courage and skills as an infantryman, PTE Bewes was also a loyal friend, and would do anything for his mates, expecting nothing in return. His selfless attitude and willingness to put himself in harms way to protect them made PTE Bewes a respected and beloved member of his team. All give some, but PTE Bewes gave it all. Lest we forget.

This led to the formation of a larger battalion sized group which was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, who became the designed Parachute Infantry Battalion. The final jump was conducted by Delta Company at Mount Walker on 08 November 1983. From here the role was then formally assumed by the 3rd Battalion on the 01 December 1983.
