25.01.2022 Some more good progress on the 4 door MK 2 resto over plenty of late nights and the last few weekends, all repairs, mods and upgrades finally finished on the shell and now time to move to the next stage of metal prep and epoxy prime, the amazing Simey, my business partner in crime, has also been putting in plenty of hours on our projects, we will be running an English rear end in the MK2 as it originally ran when I build it, rather than the much heavier Atlas it ended up run...ning, as the Pinto puts out just under 200 BHP there is no need for the Atlas, to stop the bending problem we had when running the English housings Simey has made us some super strong housings, not quite finished with caliper mounts and bracing still to go, the original tubes have been cut off and thicker wall chrome moly tubes grafted in place, with a watts linkage setup and 4 link diamond brackets also added, a raised filler plug and a drain plug also, they look very trick and should be much stronger than the originals, amazing amount of time and setup to build them, huge thanks again, looking forward to seeing the shell back in paint and on with the rebuild. 24.01.2022 How hard can it be some say - you’re just driving around in circles

23.01.2022 Heat 1, started on pole, race started a fair bit earlier than I was expecting, ended up back in the mix and 4th at the end of lap one, took a few laps to work the track out, made the pass to get 3rd back then ran a similar pace to the front two but couldn’t make any ground up, very rusty on the proper racing , a few changes for heat 2 and hoping the rain stays away

23.01.2022 Arrived and waiting in line, looking forward to some racing

22.01.2022 Nothing much more raw in motorsport than dirt short track racing, who wouldn't love to have a go at this then

21.01.2022 Rain finally stopped and the Compacts cleaned the track off a bit. Heat 2 started 5th, messy heat with one car badly upside down, passed two cars in the first lap to get up to third, once again matching the pace of the front two, track was a bit one lane after the rain. A late yellow gave some hope but 3rd it was again, and the rain has moved in for the 2nd time

21.01.2022 A selection of nice pics from ACT speedway a few weeks back, thanks Sophie Conway, Nate Ashton & Andrew Burleigh for the memories and good times

20.01.2022 The PowerPlay 4 door MK2 transformation - Retired at the end of the 2019 Alpine Rally and now on it's journey from one of the first proper Club Rallycar's with it's super fast Injected 2.2 BDG with Sadev sequential and all the cool bits built back in 2011 back to a more lower spec modest rallycar. In it we won many rally's, a Victorian 2WD Championship and a RX Australian 2WD RallyX Championship, one fast car

19.01.2022 A productive day on the PowerPlay V77, all clean again - full maintenance and check over , change everything back to winged setup a few minor changes to try and find some more speed loaded up and ready to roll out for Nowra NSW on Saturday night with no rainout

19.01.2022 Change of plan last minute Saturday morning for the PowerPlay V77, as it looks like a 95% chance of rain and thunderstorms at Goulburn for the 2nd round of the Lightning Sprints Country Series we have decided to pull the pin and head to Nagambi for the Compact Speedcar practice day, a bit of work in the pits to change from full lockdown wing setup to slick non wing setup but we are ready to have our first drive with no wings

19.01.2022 Some more progress on the 4 door resto over the last week, slowly getting through it, all underside engine bay and front outer guards all finished metal treat prepped and 2 pack epoxy primed, the beige colour has been used not by choice but because I may as well use up all the old left over previous job products

18.01.2022 Finally got a little spare time this week to empty out the parts and get rid of all the surface rust with a bit of Deoxidine, scourer and some good old fashion elbow grease, ready now to hopefully finish the body work and cage off over the next month

16.01.2022 Old school Millington powered Group 4 MK2 Escort gravel car long term project build - 1977 East African Safari replica

16.01.2022 Pre Alpine 2021 build, a replica of our UK Works MK1 Escort that we will run in the next Alpine Rally

15.01.2022 Some more progress on the 4 door resto, getting close to finishing all body shell repairs and tidy, another day should see the steel work done, then into full prep and epoxy prime

14.01.2022 v77 - end of season look back. With the 2019/2020 season obviously not quite running to plan we thought we take a quick look back at what we did run and our results and take some positives to move into what everyone hopes will be a full season of racing in 2020/2021. We were disappointed that the season was so short as we were making some good gains and seeing some good consistent pace at all the tracks visited. Statistics for 2019/2020 4 - Events not run due to rain or bush... fires - both MiniSprints and Compact Speedcars - non wing 8 - events scheduled to run but cancelled due to Covid 19, including both NSW and Vic Titles and the Aus Title to be held in Victoria 5 - MiniSprint events run in Victoria 4 - feature wins and 1 - 2nd place 7 - heat wins 3 - heat 2nd place 5 - heat 3rd place 1 - heat 4th place We retained the blue ribbon event - Mighty Mouse Classic for the 2nd year running Finished every race started, no crashes or damage. Our fastest lap at every track improved except for one from the previous race season. So over all a positive outcome for the very short season. We are going to change it up a bit next season with our racing schedule so stay tuned for updates in the coming months. Once again a huge thanks to our sponsors, friends, fellow racers, all the guys and girls that make the meetings happen at the tracks we visit and all the photographers for the memories. Stay safe and see ya'll at some stage

12.01.2022 Heat 2 will be off P5, currently raining but still racing going on and then again racing has stopped, waiting waiting

12.01.2022 Some good off season news - after a long wait to get the final points standings in for the Victorian MiniSprints Club Championship for last season, we managed to pick up the first place trophy in the PowerPlay #77 MiniSprint in only our second season in the car. With only four points rounds run and a two night non points meet and four meets cancelled prior to the shut down of racing it was a very short season. Still good to see we were starting to get a handle on the car and ...setup with plenty of heat race and feature wins and best of all no mistakes or damage, a real shame the season was cut well short. Congrats to Darren Schnoor and Andrew Burleigh for second and third in the points, we had some good battles over those five events. Big thanks to all the members in the club for the good times at the track and their off track work. Huge thanks to my business PowerPlay and my business partner in crime Simon Gardiner, without them we wouldn't be racing. Also big thanks to those that have supported us over the journey so far, Darren Windus at Western Victorian Crane Trucks, Brett and Nick Lacey at Barreta Fabrications, Greg Foster at D&F Racing, Baz at A Class Powdercoating and most of all my family who are amazingly supportive. Can't wait to get back in the car this up coming season and also looking forward to having a run in something new - stay tuned. See more

12.01.2022 Well that’s the day done at Nagambi for the PowerPlay V77, got a few good runs in and now at least we can say we’ve run the car without wings, stayed with a conservative loose setup so we could just turn laps and play with the car to learn, all in all had a great time, now to wash it all again after another rainy finish

10.01.2022 Some good progress made over the last couple of months on the 4 door resto transformation, huge amount of after hours work in the shed to get it to this point, not far to go now, looking forward to getting it finished in time for the HRA Rally Retro Day in Feb

09.01.2022 A few pics of the PowerPlay V77 without wings at yesterday Nagambi practice day, was a heap of fun having a go at another type of racing, big thanks to everyone at Nagambi for having us there and Louise from Napier Photography for the great pics

09.01.2022 Good progress made today on works replica, RH front guard all fitted up, converted to bolt on, and flare trimmed to fit, just got to finish trimming the guard and butt weld the flare in place, then onto the LF guard and flare

08.01.2022 Made some good progress this week on the MK1 Replica build, front all straight, strengthening gussets, parts to make it right or left hand drive, plenum all done and all new front panels welded in place

07.01.2022 Sad to be pulling it apart but excited to have all the projects underway. Made some solid progress over the last week on the 4 door transformation, got everything except the inside stripped out, rear end dismantled and plans and parts underway to build some decent English axle rear ends using old parts leftover along the journey of the cars development. All the parts removed are being refreshed for the other projects. I still laugh when I think about pulling out the injected BDG powerhouse and fitting the original Pinto with 100 BHP less, not the usual trail of development, can’t wait to drive it and feel the difference

07.01.2022 We are unload and ready to race, hot a windy then huge rainstorm with some decent wind, now nice and sunny and humid, think the track should be well juiced up with the extra water

06.01.2022 First run with no wings, track is a mixture of slush, holes and some good bits, how much fun was that, not used to feeding in that much lock but other than that car felt very drivable as is, stable in the rough, easy to get it into the corners and all round confident to drive

05.01.2022 Here's some way back footage - The Alpine Rally 2009, 2 mins, 8 sec's in, the mighty PowerPlay 4 door MK2 Escort was only 1 year old back then and my first Alpine driving and Jenny Cole navigating, true Historic spec, no flares, standard brakes, 2 ltr Pinto running IDF's, 4 speed rocket box.. By memory we finished 7th, not to bad against some good punters and cars. And now full circle the same engine is going back in the car after all these years :-)

03.01.2022 Some good progress made over the last week on the 4 door rebuild, got the Pinto into work and dismantled, it was originally in the car for 4 years when first built, not that long but in those 4 years it did the Red Centre to Gold Coast Trial, a Classic Outback Trial, went over the ditch to the Otago in NZ and 3 years worth of local rallying. Well over 20,000 kms of use so it was time for a refresh before it goes back in the car. The engine was in amazing condition when we stripped it and a minor refresh, crack tested parts, new rings and bearings is all that’s required to turn it around . While that’s been going on I’ve been sorting through all the parts for the various cars, rebuilding, hubs, calipers etc etc

03.01.2022 Another Saturday night, another road trip and another new track, the V77 PowerPlay Lightning Sprint all setup with wings on and ready to run at Nowra NSW, a good field of 17 cars should see some great racing, fingers crossed no rain

03.01.2022 Quick report on last Saturday night at the ACT Speedway, great to be back in the car again but very rusty after no racing for 10 months or so, with only a small field of 10 cars as it was a non points round we were hoping for some good clean laps. Heat 1 we were first up on a wet track after the earlier rainstorm, it was well slippery and was just starting to come in towards the end when it started raining again which quickly wet the track down and bought the yellows out earl...y and a 2nd place. Heat 2 saw the track in tip top shape and off the front row, chased Danny hard but didn’t quite have the pace, the gearing a little tall but ended up with another 2nd place. Heat 3 and we tightened the car up a little expecting the track to be going away a bit with the V8 dirt mods and wingless sprints getting plenty of laps, unfortunately our setup was way to tight and the track incredibly hooked up, we got up on two wheels several times and thought at first we may have had a soft RR, kept cranking more rebound on the LR shock to tie it down which helped but by then Danny was long gone and another 2nd place, unfortunately that was it as the rain came in and the night was over. Overall 2nd on the night with no damage and back in the trailer for the trip home. Was great to catch up with everyone again. We will be heading back up the Hume again this weekend to run with a bigger field of Lightning Sprints at Goulburn for the 2nd round of the NSW country series championship , we missed the first round due to closed borders so we’ve got some work to do , well done to Danny Stone on the win and Mark Heston on his 3rd place first time out with the wings on See more

03.01.2022 Friday night Midget fix when there’s no real racing, watching a replay of today’s IRacing from Kokomo, really need to get a SIM setup

03.01.2022 A few late nights and more progress on the Works Rep MK1, steel front flares all welded up to guards, rolled all the inner lips most of the front end panels done now, just got to finish the lower roll pan when I put it back on the rotisserie, new crossmember mounts welded in and started on grill mounting, modified the boot hinge mount brackets to fit the new wheel tubs and tac’d them back in place, waiting for the new fuel tank to arrive so I can fab the new rear parcel shelf and rear firewall panels, starting to look like a car finally

02.01.2022 A little more progress on the MK1 RS1600 Works Replica, some more parts have arrived from overseas and the remaining parts on their way from our suppliers, the complete Atlas rear axle assembly that was in the 4 door was stripped down and checked for straightness, it was all in pretty damn good condition considering the 300 BHP we have put through it and the abuse it’s seen over the last 7 years, a testimate to Tom at Fostek for such high quality gear, a shame he’s not still ...doing it. We then blasted and powder coated the housing and rebuilt the centre with new bearings and seals, cleaned, checked and reassembled all the other parts, had to sit it up under the shell to look at how it will look with 15’s . Will drop the shell to the panel shop on Monday so we can put it on the rack to make sure it’s all perfectly aligned before we build the new cage into it, Huge thanks again to my partner in crime Simey for his assistance See more
