15.01.2022 Warnings from NSW SES

14.01.2022 Today is White Ribbon Day to raise awareness about domestic and family violence. Recent statistics show that the rate of family and domestic violence increased during April to June. This must be addressed. My team and I have been raising money for the Manly Warringah Women's Resource Centre that offers a safe refuge for victims of domestic violence fleeing their homes. They have seen a 20% increase of calls during COVID restrictions. We have been collectively running, swimmin...g and walking to raise money and we would love you to donate too - please go https://www.mycause.com.au/page/239727/team-zali #beachessayno #walkforwomenandchildren #womensrefuge_mw

13.01.2022 Today we remember the sacrifice of those who have fought and died for our country in all theatres of war. We remember too those that returned, forever changed by what they saw and what they did in the name of freedom and democracy. At 11am let's all take a moment to pause and reflect. As Parliament is sitting this week, I have the opportunity of attending the ceremony at the Australian War Memorial where I am honoured to pay my respects on behalf of the community of Warring...ah. Members of my team will also be attending a number of local services across Warringah to represent our office. Lest we Forget.

13.01.2022 There is building pressure this week for the government to take real action on climate change. In response we've heard many of the same old recycled talking poi...nts intended to distract from the government's inaction, and to create the illusion they are doing something. Here is a simple fact: Australia's emissions per capita are some of the highest in the world and they are barely decreasing. 12.01.2022 The parliamentary inquiry into the Climate Change Bill will be the first to examine why Australia should commit and legislate Net Zero by 2050. Submissions close in less than two weeks. Learn more in the link in comments Climate Act Now

10.01.2022 Congratulations to Warringah breweries 7th Day Brewery and Nomad Brewing Co. for their @indiebrewers awards. 7th Day scored a gold award, silver and 3 bronze awards for their beers while Nomad were awarded three silver awards for their Budgy beer, raspberry beer and coffee beer. It was great to catch up with guys from 7th Day Brewery this week and hear how business is going in busy Brookvale. Let's continue to support local businesses, including the many independent breweri...es in our area. #indiebrewers #indieawards

08.01.2022 It is always so rewarding to meet the families of people we have helped during the COVID-19 travel restrictions. The Madsen family had been separated after their son couldn't come home from Europe where he was studying. Following representations from my office to the Australian Department of Home Affairs and writing a letter of support for the family to be reunited, their son was finally granted an exemption to return to Australia. This is one of hundreds of cases we have helped in Warringah and I am so proud of the work we are doing to help the community

04.01.2022 Thanks Paul Hellier for having me on the Fair Food Forager podcast where we talked about the need for climate change action to why I love running 100km trail runs. You can listen to the full episode here - http://ow.ly/fzZR50CpJxD

03.01.2022 After introducing the Climate Change Bills on Monday to Parliament I requested the Bills be referred to the Environment and Energy committee and we have just had confirmation that has happened! This is an important step in building consensus and bipartisan support. The approach in the Bill to legislate Net Zero by 2050 is supported by: Australian Medical Association Australian Council of Social Service Australian Council of Trade Unions ... Planning Institute of Australia Property Council, Business Council of Australia Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, and many other leading organisations. My team and I are working hard to put forward climate solutions.

02.01.2022 This week is National NAIDOC week that celebrates history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. My team and I have recently been celebrating the young women who live at Biala Aboriginal Hostel for Girls at Allambie Heights. Biala is a Commonwealth facility that provides accommodation here in Warringah for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander female high school students from regional NSW.... When I visited the hostel in August where they live, it was in need of resources, so we asked the generous community of Warringah to focus their collective resourcefulness to help them. The response was heart-warming. A special thank you to every group who donated and offered their time to show love to the hostel from gardening to offering some bedroom accessories. I'm so proud of Warringah! With the assistance of Manly videographer, Tikky Hes who donated her time, we put together a video of the project which will serve as a beautiful piece of history for the girls and our community. Not everyone could make it to our presentation due to Covid restrictions so please watch the video here:
