Issued at 10:15 am Saturday, 3 October 2020. DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS ACROSS NORTHEASTERN TASMANIA DURING SATURDAY Weather Situation: A strong northwesterly airstream over Tasmania will ease Saturday afternoon as a slow-moving trough moves over the state. DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS, averaging 50 to 60 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 to 100 km/h, are possible across parts of northeastern Tasmania until Saturday afternoon. Wind gusts in-excess of 100 km/h are possible about high terrain. Locations which may be affected include St Helens, Swansea, Fingal and Scamander. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Supervise children closely. * Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings. * Manage pets and livestock. * Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment. * Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004. * Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving. * check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.

Midlands Highway, south of Ross. Several vehicles involved and reports of serious injuries. Tasman Highway, Apslawn (north of Swansea). Reports of a single vehicle rollover. No details of injuries at this stage...Fairsy... UPDATE 1.31pm - The Midland Highway is closed south of Ross after a multiple vehicle crash, the accident was reported just before 1pm, it's understood two vehicles are involved. Update 2.20pm - Police have requested that motorists delay all travel on the Midland Highway in the area south of Ross. The Highway will be closed for an extended period, after a serious crash involving several vehicles. There are fatalities. Further details will be advised. Police are directing traffic and vehicles are being turned around on the Highway. Tasman Highway crash Three people have been taken to hospital after a single vehicle rollover near Apslawn. There are no details on injuries..Fairsy Update at 2.55pm the Midland Highway is open to light vehicles in both directions following an earlier crash near Ross. Motorists are advised to expect delays.
