13.01.2022 As an advocate I hear and see so many great things, I am blessed to be surrounded by so many kind, supportive and inspirational advocates, we all get on so well.... Then, very sadly I see the evil side. Not evil people as such, but certainly acts of cruelty, harassment, and bullying that I find shocking and unacceptable. They are a minority and do not represent our community, but they do follow their egos and secret agendas. Worst of all is that it is autistic people bullying other more vulnerable autistics and it is disgraceful and cowardly. I am proud that my page, followers and ethos has been impeccable over nearly 8 years running of the page. I want to make it publicly known that I feel fearful that one day a more vulnerable autistic person/parent or carer may be driven to suicide by these attacks and this is not acceptable. This page condemns such acts of cyberbullying and will also not tolerate those who cyberbully, harass, stalk and threaten fellow advocates/autistics/ friends. My page does not associate with such individuals and as a matter of politeness and courtesy I do not call out or name people on the page nor do I gossip. To those who bully you are taking a huge risk, if someone is harmed you could be held responsible and might even face prosecution. Remember there are cosequences for our actions and what we say, cyber bullying can be a criminal offence or liable to legal action. Please be kind to each other, be inclusive, and build a community that leads by example. As advocates no matter what our differences, we should be aware that we are working for the greater good of the community and not to use that as a tool for ego and petty agendas. Thank you
11.01.2022 At least 55 women were murdered by men in Australia during 2020. Today, many people gathering at Parliament House in Adelaide to #PayOurRespects to each of them.... To say their names, honour their lives and commit to being a part of the change that our society needs. We know this is an ongoing national crisis. And we know that if we are going to prevent men’s violence we must change the attitudes, disrespect and condoning of gender inequality that creates the space for violence to be happen and even be normalised. Men’s violence against women is a prevalent scourge. We again ask every man to consider how they play a role in either maintaining or dismantling the culture, behaviours and social structures that drive men’s violence. Choose humility. Choose to change. Choose to listen and learn. Choose to act. Thanks to Stacey Nelan and Gillian Lewis for your leadership and commitment and to the many members of Parliament from all political persuasions who joined in with others grieving, honouring and committing to action. #payourrespects2021
