25.01.2022 #Stressful #Day #Todo #List - #Ideas and #activities to do or consider when you have had a stressful day at the #office. Remember YOU are important to. #socialwork #mentalhealth #children #families #adult #socialcare

25.01.2022 Darla Spence Coffey, president and CEO of CSWE, encourages social workers to practice self-care and organizations to place more emphasis on providing a healthy working environment. (This was written Social Work Month but applies for every month!)

24.01.2022 Staying with theme of play, lets have a self care summer of play" "Play mines the buried gem of child-like energy out of the heart of a tired adult."

23.01.2022 FYI Critical and Radical Social Work: Special Issue Call for Papers: Revolutionary social work: Promoting sustainable justice.

23.01.2022 "Not only are the parents and the children adversely affected, so are those in the helping professions, such as mental and behavioral health professionals and volunteers who deal with the tragic outcomes. This type of trauma creates high levels of compassion fatigue and stress for those who care for others."

22.01.2022 There is one sign of burnout that often goes unnoticed and is encouraged in subtle ways. This is what can be called the "need complex" -- the feeling that you and your social work intervention are so needed that you must work more. #socialwork #burnout

20.01.2022 "I believe there are ways to become more resilient and flourish. Acknowledging vulnerability and using strength-based approaches are important tools."

19.01.2022 #Resilience is not about eliminating anxiety, fear, or uncertainty. Cultivating resilience allows us to face these and other stressful experiences with greater confidence, so we have the resources to bounce back.

17.01.2022 The video from our recent author chat is now available! The co-editors of The A-to-Z Self-Care Handbook for Social Workers and Other Helping Professionals talk ...about self-care and ethics, lifestyle, and strategies. We hope you will share, watch, and discuss with your colleagues and students. See more

16.01.2022 Recent research documents a compelling link between ones self-compassion and ones level of self-care. Specifically, in a survey of more than 2,000 social workers, self-compassion proved to be a clear predictor of self-care. #selfcare #selfcompassion

15.01.2022 Crying on the drive into work... That's what my compassion fatigue looked like in 2008. As a social worker in mental health and addictions, I empathized with ...a lot of pain and it led to daily dread, high anxiety and panic attacks. I remember crying on my drive into work and I could only laugh/cry at the irony that I was supposed to be helping people. I was ready to leave the field when I finally heard about compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma. I knew immediately that's what I was experiencing. But I didn't know how to recover from it or prevent it. So I decided to specialize in it. Fast forward 10 years and I've coached hundreds of people, spoken in front of thousands of people and have launched a really cool (if I do say so myself) online coaching program called Caring Safely, all to teach people how to protect themselves from compassion fatigue. I have a free, live, webinar coming up soon that talks about all of this. If you want to Learn More you can register and then check your email for a compassion fatigue assessment. Please share this post because you just never know who is suffering in silence and could use this info. See you at the webinar! Char

14.01.2022 Simple and doable.

14.01.2022 That's a relief! I can let go of the guilt :)

14.01.2022 What's in your #socialworker success & #selfcare toolbox?

13.01.2022 Autumn is an apropos season for emphasizing the important self-care practice of letting go.

12.01.2022 How do you know when it is time to quit your #socialwork #job?

11.01.2022 In my work on Ecosocial Work and Degrowth, Im learning to degrow my agenda, and slow down and enjoy life more. Hope you all can enjoy some time to rest, refuel, and experience joy. We work hard to save the world, but we must also savor it.

10.01.2022 Resilience isn't about eliminating anxiety, fear, or uncertainty. Rather, it allows us to face these and other stressful experiences with greater confidence, so we can bounce back.

09.01.2022 Last week I delivered self care training to 40 social workers working in a highly challenging government department. The model of social work service delivery is such that workers are confronted everyday not only with high volume of client needs, but by a model of working that demands a level of 'throughput' that diminishes their sense of real engagement with the client, and the capacity to work true to the values of our profession. Neoliberal business models of efficiency should not be imposed on human service provision. Pure and simple.

08.01.2022 How much of the enthusiasm about mindfulness is hype, and how much is solid science?

07.01.2022 About to deliver another workshop on this very important topic. So pleased to see people writing about it.

07.01.2022 Hey Social Workers - ditch the To Do list and have a great weekend just stopping and being.

06.01.2022 Getting a BALANCE between WORK and PLAY is one of the practice standards we talk about in Self Care workshops. I'm thinking about how I can get a ball pit into the lunch room at work!

06.01.2022 As #mentalhealthawarenessweek2019 in the UK approaches, this wonderful graphic reminds us of the layers of mental health needs, from support to hope and everywh...ere in between. 06.01.2022 How are you self caring this weekend? I'm into the garden with the chooks and the fresh air. :)

05.01.2022 Spend most of your time with people who want the best for you, listen often, and love you unconditionally. ~ xoxo Michelle & Barb

05.01.2022 Self-care, which may include self-healing, is important to a persons well-being, success, and maybe even survival, both in personal life and work.

05.01.2022 Give yourself grace.

04.01.2022 Self care requires both a personal and organisational response. As social workers, we are trained to understand and intervene within systems that are harmful and dysfunctional. So, what needs to change in your workplace in order for workers to thrive in the face of the challenges associated with our work?

02.01.2022 Years ago, CFAP created this Caregiver's Bill of Rights. We must be advocates for our caregiving rights no matter which helping profession receives our time, talents and resources. To download a copy free of charge, go to www.healthycaregiving.com.

01.01.2022 Don't put off self-care. Do it NOW! Start today, use a strengths approach, be SMART-er, enlist support, and reflect.

01.01.2022 I spend four days of my week sitting down. Today I gardened until I dropped. That's balance!
