22.01.2022 Good evening all, Firstly is like to wish you all a very Happy New Year and may you all stay safe. As you are aware there is currently devastation in our country, particularly the current fire situation. We are arranging for donations to be taken to relief centers in Gippsland. I believing our Scouting families maybe able to assist. Can I please ask if you can filter this information through your groups communication channels? ... *There are currently alot of families affected by the bushfire in Gippsland. Some are staying at relief centers with no home to go back to. We are requesting donations such as, clothes, toiletries, feminine products, footwear, sleeping wear, toys etc. If you can assist this would be greatly appreciated. Please understand that items will need to be clean and in good working order, we need to be mindful of what we donate. I know this sounds harsh but these people have next to nothing left and don't want it to end up in landfill. We will be available for donations to be dropped off at Boronia, until around 11am Saturday 4th January 2020. Please contact Fiona Waters on 0405952621 (call or message) or [email protected].* Thank you Fiona Waters Group Leader Boronia Scout Group Moblie: 0405 952 621

16.01.2022 Scouts Victoria has offered facilities - but not campsites at this stage - to assist those affected by the current bushfire disaster. We have issued Emergency Management Victoria with a list of facilities that are available for people to stay. Thank you to our local members who have made this offer possible. While our Scout camps are a logical location to house people who have been displaced, but many of our campsites are in bushfire-prone areas. The current situation is very... dynamic with new fires starting, and unpredictable fire behaviour in unexpected locations. We have previously offered campsites when faced with less risky conditions, eg the 2014 Morwell fire, but we do not want to place people at risk by putting them into campsites which are difficult to evacuate if they are impacted by fire. At this time, we ask that members don’t informally offer camping spots or indoor accommodation in our campsites. But providing halls in built up townships and defensible locations is OK if you are asked by the community. Scouts Victoria will make any facility available when asked by Local Government, Department of Human Services or Emergency Management Victoria. With terrible news emerging from East Gippsland, Victoria has a long road ahead - and this is only the start of a long and difficult season. Helping others is a core value of Scouting and Scouts will have a role to play in the recovery of the community. Our thoughts are with all those involved, especially our members who are involved in this emergency. This is also a timely reminder to register your Scouting activities away from home on our Out and About tool which you can view here. We need to know where you are. 11.01.2022 Did you know that Baden-Powell was buried in Kenya 79 years ago? Watch to learn more about his life in the town of Nyeri, a place which felt like home to the founder of the Scout Movement
11.01.2022 Hi all, Thank you all for getting the word out about donations required. We are no longer taking donations. The most needed donations have been delievered today. Thank you all, those that have donated cash or otherwise, this town will need visitors when they are rebuilding and after they have rebuilt. ... Please note: if you are collecting donations for other people/organisations I would strongly advise to seperate, box and label all donations according to what they are. There are not a lot of people to sort through all donations they are receiving in this very trying time. Also, if you haven't spoken with the place you are going to, I would highly suggest that this occurs as there is a strain of local volunteers and space can be limited. Thank you, Fiona Waters Group Leader Boronia Scout Group Moblie: 0405 952 621
09.01.2022 A, message from Chief commissioner, Rod Byrne March 22 2020 The State government has today advised that schools will close from Tuesday March 24.... Scouts Victoria is taking a break from face-to-face Scouting from Tuesday. This means no meetings, camps, hikes or other activities after Monday night until further advised. No youth member will be disadvantaged in completing their peak award. If you now have to cancel your Green Cord hike, and your 15th birthday is coming soon, you will still be able to earn your ASM. There will be more details about this and other issues soon. And we remain very active online! Already there are many Sections meeting online. Cubs doing Boomerang work together and sending videos of their efforts to their Leaders Joeys having a sleepover each in their own home connected on Zoom. Group Councils and Section Councils continuing to plan ahead through Zoom or other platforms. The usual child protection procedures apply. Everything must be public, and visible to all interested parents. No private, one-on-one conversations. A Section might set up a shared Gmail so that all emails in and out (using Reply All) are visible to all Leaders in the Section. If you are concerned about running online meetings, please don’t be. Apart from being separated and meeting remotely, our standard practices apply. There will be a further update early this week with more details on the trail ahead. In the meantime, please send any questions to [email protected] Scouts Victoria will soon be providing resources for Scouting @ Home. Full programs for Leaders, activity sheets for youth members so that Sections can continue to share creative, fun Scouting online. But you don’t have to wait till term 2. You could plan your first event for these (extended) holidays. In these challenging times young people need: some normality in their life continued social connection support for positive mental health Let’s do our bit to support our local community and keep our youth members connected. Stay safe, Rod Byrne
