19.01.2022 Extract from the Australian War Memorial, Canberra: At 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. The allied armies had driven the German invaders back, having inflicted heavy defeats upon them over the preceding four months. In November the Germans called for an armistice (suspension of fighting) in order to secure a peace settlement. They accepted allied terms that amounted to unconditional surrender. The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month attained a special significance in the post-war years. The moment when hostilities ceased on the Western Front became universally associated with the remembrance of those who had died in the war.

17.01.2022 The Rotary Foundation is celebrated worldwide by Rotarians, the greater Darwin Club Members have the opportunity to support The Rotary Foundation's End Polio Now initiative by purchasing a ticket and bringing along family and friedns to the Polio Movie Event 2020 - I Am Woman, the inspiring story of Australian singer/songwriter Helen Reddy who shot to global stardom in the 70's. This movie is an Australian production shot in Sydney. Rob Byrne, Senior Coordinator - Foundation Services at Rotary South Pacific & Philippines Office in Sydney commented: "I Am Woman provides the perfect opportunity to have some fun, engage with community, get inspired - and of course raise lots of funds for End Polio Now and the eradication of polio worldwide!"
