25.01.2022 Our beginnings as an organisation were covered in a story by The Project back in December 2014, when founder Glen Hulley was interviewed about his work in South East Asia. As he explained back then - it is estimated that the global trade in Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSEM) and Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) exceeds $40 billion USD per annum. With less than a 9% chance of being prosecuted, criminal syndicates and enterprising individuals continue to sexually exploit childre...n in record numbers - particularly online. It is estimated that there are around 2 million children in the world currently living in circumstances of sexual slavery and exploitation. That’s 2 million children wishing they can make that same phone call that Carrie Bickmore refers to, and our hearts cry for them everyday - it’s what drives our organisation forward. Exploitation extends to domestic child sex abuse, which is a problem of pandemic proportions around the world, including Australia. Paedophila or Paedophilic disorder is largely misunderstood by Governments and society in general, yet it is the only factor that drives these crimes. It’s what creates the market for such exploitation crimes for profit against children. Laws and legislation around the world reflect such little understanding. We all need to understand how many people in our population have these tendencies (this disorder) toward children - the numbers are frightening. We need to better manage these people before they offend and we need to better manage them after they offend. We need to create better laws, legislation and policies that better manage this problem in our societies and we have advocated this since our beginnings. That’s why the 4th pillar of Project Karma's Sentinel Model is dedicated to consultation and collaboration with Governments in many countries (including Australia) to change laws that will ultimately lead to long term change. Visit: www.projectkarma.org.au for more information. We support the required changes to Victorian Labor Jill Hennessy MP’s proposed legislative Bill, that would effectively make it a crime for families of deceased sexual abuse victims to speak publicly of the crime and we congratulate the courageous people of the #LetUsSpeak campaign for coming forward and taking a stand. 19.01.2022 We are very pleased to announce the successful extradition of accused pedophile, Charles Batham from Italy back to Australia, after being on the run throughout Europe for the last 9 years. Our followers will recall our involvement in locating Batham in Italy back in February this year, which led to his dramatic arrest in a coordinated operation between Italian and Australian authorities. Since then, Batham has exercised his legal right to contest Australia’s application for h...is extradition from Italy to its full course. A few weeks ago, Batham’s last legal appeal application against extradition was rejected by the Italian court, paving the way for his ‘in custody’ return to Australia to face justice. Credit to the Australian and Italian Governments to coordinate Batham’s return to Australia so quickly, amongst COVID19 international travel challenges and diplomatic red tape. We are very proud to announce that Batham has arrived back in Australia in police custody on Tuesday. We wish to thank Erin Parke at ABC News for her efforts in this case and for breaking the story. And we wish to congratulate the Australian Federal Police, Western Australia Police Force and all Italian authorities involved in this successful arrest and extradition. We look forward to Batham now facing the decade old charges against him in Western Australia and we hope that the justice process will bring some closure to his victims. 19.01.2022 Today we are very pleased to release the Report on Child Sexual Exploitation in the Tourism Industry - An analysis of ambiguous spaces in Bali. This report is an executive summary of the research and recommendations for practice, compiled by Flier Hulsbergen, from the University of Amsterdam / Universiteit van Amsterdam, facilitated by Yayasan Project Karma Indonesia - YPKI in Bali and sanctioned under Project Karma's Sentinel Model funding. Flier was part our our Internati...onal Internship Program for most of last year, which saw her living in Bali and working daily from our office to facilitate her research, as part of her Masters studies. We are very proud of her work, as it provides an accurate insight into the issues surrounding child sexual abuse and exploitation, specifically in Bali - something that has been sorely needed for a long time. We intend to present this report to the Indonesian Government and to local authorities in Bali in the near future, once it is translated. Flier has kindly made this report publicly available to all NGOs and Foundations in Bali dedicated to child protection/welfare and we hope that it will used as a baseline for further collaboration between Government departments, law enforcement agencies and NGO’s to better combat child sex crimes together in Bali. We thank Flier and the University of Amsterdam for the hard work and dedication required to compile this comprehensive research document and its recommendations and to those whom participated in her research. 17.01.2022 Part 4 of the Australian Federal Police From the Frontline: Operation Arkstone. This is a fantastic initiative by the AFP to show the public some of the story behind these types of complex investigations, to recognise the people behind the scenes, working tirelessly and to help generate awareness of this problem in Australia. Well done AFP.
12.01.2022 More great work by the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation in weeding out these online Aussie perverts causing so much damage to so many vulnerable children in South East Asia.

09.01.2022 This is a sad reality that our operatives face at times. Tonight, our Yayasan Project Karma Indonesia - YPKI Crisis Coordinator has had to accompany an 11 year old girl to the hospital in order to receive a pregnancy and full STD/HIV test, after reporting a rape to our team yesterday, that we believe occurred a few weeks ago. We have been with her at the hospital all day. As can be seen on the invoice - including the doctor’s fee and prescription medication, the total is arou...nd AUD$200. These are just some of the hidden costs that we incur in the pursuit of victim rehabilitation, protection and justice as part of our mandate in Indonesia. This poor girl will now need safe house accommodation, in order for intensive therapy to take place and for her medium term accomodation and welfare needs. Again, Project Karma's Sentinel Model assists in covering those costs as well. We have busy few days ahead of us, coordinating with local police and child protection agencies to legally secure the safe custody of this little girl, in order to begin getting her the professional care that she needs. This must all happen before the suspect can be arrested. The trauma suffered by this child is incomprehensible - this is not the first time that she has been raped. This is a tragic story that eventually, we will share with the world. It’s a tough job, with much always at stake. Please spare a thought for our dedicated staff and volunteers, AND let’s all pray that this little girl is not pregnant or has contracted any diseases. You can donate by clicking on the button below to help continue funding these vital services.
05.01.2022 Operation Arkstone continues to dismantle one of Australia’s largest child sexual exploitation networks. We congratulate the Australian Federal Police, the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation and all State JACET’s involved in this ongoing investigation. Spare a thought for the investigators tasked to identifying the many child victims found in the hundreds of videos produced by this network. Horrifying....
