17.01.2022 AC/DC have been strongly teasing a comeback over the last few weeks. Yesterday they finally released a teaser of their upcoming single. The single seems to be called ‘SHOT IN THE DARK’. AC/DC shared the 30 second snippet on their socials with the single’s title in the caption. That’s definitely an Angus Young riff if you’ve ever heard one with a huge Acca Dacca vibes on the clip.... The single will be AC/DC’s first new offering of music since 2014’s 'Rock or Bust' album.
15.01.2022 On September 29, 1991, Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" video premiered on MTV's "120 Minutes," an event that, in the years that followed, would come to signify the beginning of rock's great renaissance and usher in a cultural shift that would define a generation. "If MTV had known that Nirvana was going to be as huge as they [were], they would’ve world-premiered the video in prime time, not late-night Sunday on 120 Minutes," recalled the show's host, Dave Kendall. MTV would also rank it third in a greatest music videos of all time list published in 1999

08.01.2022 During a recent interview with Consequence of Sound, the Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash was asked about the latest Acca Dacca record 'Power Up', the band's seventeenth studio album released on Friday, November 13th. I obviously have a long history with AC/DC, and then Axl [Rose] was singing with them for a minute when Brian [Johnson] was out, so we got reacquainted during that period. So, the first bit of great news, I talked to Brian and he was telling me about this hearing ...[device] that he got, and that he’s back in AC/DC. And that was just fucking awesome news. Slash went on to acknowledge that the record was a stunning tribute to late AC/DC rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young, who passed away in 2017 following a battle with dementia. And the tragedy of losing Malcolm, the fact that Angus and co would survive that and keep it going, in the spirit of probably what Malcolm would have done, was great. I just love those guys because as far as rock ‘n’ roll is concerned, they just are driven. He continued, They’re a great influence on people who think that rock ‘n’ roll is sort of just fun and games, and then as soon as any kind of mishap happens, [bands] break up or they fall apart or they quit, he said. AC/DC is a great example of longevity. They’re a great example of tenacity and perseverance, a great example of talent, and a great example of what rock ‘n’ roll is all about. So, I’m so stoked that they just continue to do it. Weighing in on the bare bones of Power Up, Slash added Then, on top of it, they make such a great fucking record at this point in the game. It’s a really inspired album. I’ve had it in the car for the last couple of days and it’s probably gonna sit there for a while. It’s exciting for me. I’m happy for them, and I can’t wait for this virus situation to end so we can go check them out on tour somewhere.
07.01.2022 NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says a new public health order will be issued for New Year's Eve, as the state records its 12th consecutive day of zero locally acquired COVID cases. Ms Berejiklian said a public health order specific for December 31 will be established to create a CBD exclusion zone. She said anyone who intends to visit the CBD on New Years Eve will be required to have a permit or be able to demonstrate a booking at a café, restaurant or hotel.... "We don't want people roaming around the city because that's not COVID-safe," Ms Berejiklian said. "Even if you are visiting a friend who lives in the CBD, you will need to apply for a permit." She said residents of the CBD will also need a New Years Eve pass, which can be applied for through the Service NSW app from 7 December. Outdoor spaces to view the fireworks in the city will be designated only for frontline workers, including healthcare workers, emergency services, transport workers and cleaners. Everyone else is encouraged to stay at home, or in their suburbs, to bring in the new year. NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said the public health order will also be amended to allow up to 3000 people to gather in outdoor spaces. Outdoor church services will also increase capacity from 300 people to 500 people, subject to COVID-safe plan. Up to 30 people will be allowed in a choir for carols, but participants must wear a mask. Funerals will also be permitted to have 300 people from 1 December.
07.01.2022 New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she is open to the prospect of an international travel bubble between her state and New Zealand. Ms Berejiklian said she would be "happy to have formal conversations" with the New Zealand Prime Minister about establishing a travel bubble in the coming months. "I'd be happy to be the first state that welcomes Kiwis," she told Today.... "NSW is saying to every part of Australia, except for Victoria, and understandably, to WA, to Queensland, South Australia, 'you are welcome to NSW'. "We believe our system is resilient enough. If we are saying that to other states and New Zealand is about the same situation, I think it is important for us to consider those opportunities. I would also hope that it's reciprocal." Ms Berejklian said while she would be willing to consider the possibility of an international travel bubble, lifting hotel quarantine requirements for returned travellers was not a possibility for the state. "I wouldn't feel comfortable not having them quarantine in hotels at this stage, because the number of cases is still quite high," she said.
06.01.2022 On November 19, 1982 Led Zeppelin released their final studio album 'Coda', two years after the group had officially disbanded following the death of drummer John Bonham. 'Coda' is a collection of unused tracks from various sessions during the band's twelve-year career. Bassist John Paul Jones recalled: "They were good tracks. A lot of it was recorded around the time punk was really happening... basically there wasn't a lot of Zeppelin tracks that didn't go out. We used everything." The word 'Coda', meaning a passage that ends a musical piece following the main body, was therefore chosen as the title.
06.01.2022 Yesterday, legendary rockers AC/DC stoked comeback rumours with a cryptic clip on their social media channels of a neon sign shaped like a lightning bolt flickering. The posts arrived just a week after images of the band emerged showing Angus Young and his nephew Stevie, Cliff Williams, Phil Rudd and Brian Johnson. Now, a poster has been spotted out the front of Angus Young’s old high school in Ashfield, featuring a lightning bolt and the ‘PWR UP’ branding. Excitingly, it a...ddresses Sydney directly asking Are you ready?. Additionally, a new website has since sprung up with the ‘PWR UP’ iconography along with a hidden, five-piece band lineup and live equipment. While it remains to be seen exactly what AC/DC are teasing with all this, it’s an exciting time for fans of the band who thought they were done and dusted. Back in July, Twisted Sister‘s Dee Snider a friend of the band commented that while a new Acca Dacca album was complete, the COVID-19 pandemic was getting in the way of its release. What will be achieved, the reuniting of the band that we know for one more album, is gonna to be uplifting and heartbreaking at the same time, Snider told ABC at the time. Because nothing goes on forever. But this is the ultimate ‘one more time'.

05.01.2022 5 years ago today, the original 1962 contract signed by the Beatles and their manager Brian Epstein was sold at a Sotheby's exhibition for 365,000, ($500.000) to raise money for the Ernest Hecht Charitable Foundation. The 1962 document was said to be one of the most important contracts in popular music, marking the beginning of the band's journey to international fame. The document was legalized on Jan. 24, 1962, with signatures from John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and original drummer Pete Best. It was endorsed by the parents of McCartney, Harrison and Best, since they were all less than 21 years old at the time and therefore too young to enter into such a contract on their own.
05.01.2022 On September 28, 1968 The Beatles started a nine week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Hey Jude’ giving the group their 16th US No.1 and the biggest selling single of 1968. ‘Hey Jude’ evolved from a song Paul McCartney wrote for John Lennon’s 5-year-old son Julian because his parents were getting a divorce and it was originally titled ‘Hey Jules’. In 1996, Julian paid 25,000 for the recording notes to the song at an auction.
04.01.2022 Australian rock legends Midnight Oil have announced their first long form release in almost 20 years; The Makarrata Project. The mini album will have seven tracks, including their previously released single Gadigal Land and one song featuring posthumous vocals by Gurrumul, who passed away in 2017. Another single called First Nation will feature Jessica Mauboy & Tasman Keith, while other tracks will feature Alice Skye, Leah Flanagan, Troy Cassar-Daley, Kev Carmody, Sammy Butc...her and Frank Yamma. The LP will conclude with a reading of ‘The Uluru Statement From The Heart’, featuring prominent Indigenous Australians Stan Grant, Ursula Yovich, Pat Anderson and AFL trailblazer Adam Goodes. Drummer Rob Hirst told Music Feeds: All of these brilliant collaborators that we worked with delivered fresh interpretations of the songs, and brought strong new ideas to the album. This added immensely to the final result. We were particularly moved that Gurrumul’s family and label gave us these previously unheard recordings of him singing. They’re a real highlight. 03.01.2022 On this day, October 1, 1977, Elton John became the first musician to be honoured in New York City's Madison Square Hall Of Fame. He was also the first non-athlete to be honored there. He set the all-time record for most appearances at The Garden, with 62 shows. In fact, he had his 60th show there on his 60th birthday (March 25, 2007). He states that he chose to have his 60th birthday concert there because it’s the best venue in the whole world and because of all of the memories he’s had there.
02.01.2022 Whatever lord or lords exist up there must have returned after abandoning us for 9 months, because AC/DC have begun teasing *something* on their social media. Overnight, the legendary and pioneering Australian band posted a brief animated clip of a neon sign shaped like their signature lightning bolt flickering before turning on completely. This new coincides with the band reportedly leaking their own return last week as shots were shared showing a reunited AC/DC, with Angus ...Young and his nephew Stevie, as well as Brian Johnson, Phil Rudd, and Cliff Williams. This news was a pleasant surprise to fans, as both Rudd and Johnson had departed the band in recent years. Rudd left in 2014 following the recording of the band’s most recent album 'Rock or Bust', following a string of legal issues. Meanwhile, Johnson left in 2016 citing hearing loss, but he also remained adamant that he wasn’t retiring. View the band’s teaser post below, and stay tuned for more news.
