25.01.2022 NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says a new public health order will be issued for New Year's Eve, as the state records its 12th consecutive day of zero locally acquired COVID cases. Ms Berejiklian said a public health order specific for December 31 will be established to create a CBD exclusion zone. She said anyone who intends to visit the CBD on New Years Eve will be required to have a permit or be able to demonstrate a booking at a café, restaurant or hotel.... "We don't want people roaming around the city because that's not COVID-safe," Ms Berejiklian said. "Even if you are visiting a friend who lives in the CBD, you will need to apply for a permit." She said residents of the CBD will also need a New Years Eve pass, which can be applied for through the Service NSW app from 7 December. Outdoor spaces to view the fireworks in the city will be designated only for frontline workers, including healthcare workers, emergency services, transport workers and cleaners. Everyone else is encouraged to stay at home, or in their suburbs, to bring in the new year. NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said the public health order will also be amended to allow up to 3000 people to gather in outdoor spaces. Outdoor church services will also increase capacity from 300 people to 500 people, subject to COVID-safe plan. Up to 30 people will be allowed in a choir for carols, but participants must wear a mask. Funerals will also be permitted to have 300 people from 1 December.

24.01.2022 NSW has gone five consecutive days without a single locally-acquired case of COVID-19 being diagnosed. NSW Health said there were five coronavirus cases diagnosed in returned travellers in hotel quarantine in the 23,236 tests undertaken in the 24-hours to 8pm on Wednesday. Deputy Chief Officer Jeremy McAnulty said on Thursday 71 patients were being treated in NSW and none of them were in intensive care.... Fragments of the virus had been detected at sewage pumping stations serving nearly 25,000 people in Bowral and Moss Vale and while there had been recent cases in Moss Vale, there were no recent cases reported in Bowral. Everyone in these areas is urged to immediately get tested if they have any symptoms at all that could signal COVID-19, Dr McAnulty said. While detection in sewage samples could reflect the presence of older cases in those areas, there could be other active cases in the local community in people who had not been tested and assumed their symptoms were just a cold.

21.01.2022 On November 30, 1979 Pink Floyd's album 'The Wall' is released, seeing out the '70s in spectacular fashion as it sells over 13 million copies. The powerful concept album's themes of isolation and despair resonate with legions of fans, and it even spawns a #1 single - "Another Brick In The Wall (part II). What was your favourite song of that album?

21.01.2022 'Axis: Bold as Love', the Jimi Hendrix Experience second studio album is turning 53 today. The album cover, which draws on Hindu religious iconography, has generated controversy. It was designed without Hendrix's approval, and he publicly expressed his dissatisfaction, stating that the cover would have been more appropriate had it highlighted his American Indian heritage. However, the album went on to become quite successful and was certified platinum in the US and silver in the UK. Rolling Stone even ranked 'Axis: Bold as Love' number 92 on its 2020 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

19.01.2022 On November 13, 2012 Soundgarden released their sixth album, 'King Animal'. It is also their final album released before the death of frontman Chris Cornell in 2017 and the subsequent dissolution of the band in 2019. What was your favourite song on that album?

18.01.2022 During a recent interview with Consequence of Sound, the Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash was asked about the latest Acca Dacca record 'Power Up', the band's seventeenth studio album released on Friday, November 13th. I obviously have a long history with AC/DC, and then Axl [Rose] was singing with them for a minute when Brian [Johnson] was out, so we got reacquainted during that period. So, the first bit of great news, I talked to Brian and he was telling me about this hearing ...[device] that he got, and that he’s back in AC/DC. And that was just fucking awesome news. Slash went on to acknowledge that the record was a stunning tribute to late AC/DC rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young, who passed away in 2017 following a battle with dementia. And the tragedy of losing Malcolm, the fact that Angus and co would survive that and keep it going, in the spirit of probably what Malcolm would have done, was great. I just love those guys because as far as rock ‘n’ roll is concerned, they just are driven. He continued, They’re a great influence on people who think that rock ‘n’ roll is sort of just fun and games, and then as soon as any kind of mishap happens, [bands] break up or they fall apart or they quit, he said. AC/DC is a great example of longevity. They’re a great example of tenacity and perseverance, a great example of talent, and a great example of what rock ‘n’ roll is all about. So, I’m so stoked that they just continue to do it. Weighing in on the bare bones of Power Up, Slash added Then, on top of it, they make such a great fucking record at this point in the game. It’s a really inspired album. I’ve had it in the car for the last couple of days and it’s probably gonna sit there for a while. It’s exciting for me. I’m happy for them, and I can’t wait for this virus situation to end so we can go check them out on tour somewhere.

15.01.2022 The first day of the photo shoot for the forthcoming Pink Floyd 'Animals' album cover took place on November 2, 1976 at Battersea Power Station in London, England with a giant inflatable pig lashed between two of the structure's tall towers. A trained marksman was hired ready to fire if the inflatable escaped, but was not needed on this, the first day. Unfortunately the following day the marksman hadn't been rebooked, so when the inflatable broke free from its moorings, it was able to float away, eventually landing in Kent where it was recovered by a local farmer, reportedly furious that it had ‘scared his cows.'

11.01.2022 NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced a "major easing" of coronavirus restrictions on the 25th day without any local cases in the state. Caps on the number of people allowed at hospitality venues will be lifted, and there is no limit to the number of people allowed at weddings or funerals. The four-square-metre rule will become the two-square-metre rule on Monday 7 December, except for gyms and nightclubs.... Up to 100 people can attend an outdoor event such as a large family picnic. Up to 50 people are allowed on a dancefloor at one time and at weddings this does not have to be the same 50 people, just that number at one time. "Last year bushfires robbed us of Christmas, today's announcement means COVID is not going to rob us of Christmas," NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro said today. He said the government was able to lift restrictions in time for the end of the year because of the community coming together and following the rules. Ms Berejiklian said despite the good news, health precautions like social distancing, good hygiene and testing must continue.

06.01.2022 On November 19, 1982 Led Zeppelin released their final studio album 'Coda', two years after the group had officially disbanded following the death of drummer John Bonham. 'Coda' is a collection of unused tracks from various sessions during the band's twelve-year career. Bassist John Paul Jones recalled: "They were good tracks. A lot of it was recorded around the time punk was really happening... basically there wasn't a lot of Zeppelin tracks that didn't go out. We used everything." The word 'Coda', meaning a passage that ends a musical piece following the main body, was therefore chosen as the title.

03.01.2022 Western Australia will officially reopen its borders to New South Wales and Victoria in time for Christmas, more than eight months after it was slammed shut. Premier Mark McGowan announced on Tuesday that residents in the two states will be allowed into WA - quarantine free - from 12.01am on Tuesday, December 8. Travellers will, however, still be required to undergo health screening and a temperature check at the airport, complete a G2G pass outlining recent travel and take a... COVID-19 test if necessary. The decision, which will bring the restrictions in line with Tasmania, Queensland, the ACT and the Northern Territory, was made after updated health advice was issued by Chief Health Officer Andy Robertson. The border move comes after Victoria marked 28 days without community transmission and NSW went 24 days without a locally-acquired infection.
