17.01.2022 Just come accross this, thought I’d Share a brilliant reminder that a childs behaviour is not a personal attack. Why I am Rude... I am rude because I like the feeling of power and control it gives me especially as I often feel very out of control on the inside I am rude because it gives me an outlet for all my pent up emotions that I struggle to identify I am rude because people in my past spoke to me or each other that way and I’m used to it I am rude because it gets me attention, even if it’s negative attention, I am rude because I know it winds you up and I like to be in control of you so I don’t feel as scared I am rude because I’m tired, hungry, thirsty or just want a cuddle but don’t realise I’m feeling these things I am rude because I’ve got heightened levels of cortisol in my body which pushes me into fight, flight or freeze I am rude because you’ve done something nice with me or for me and I want to remind you that I’m a bad kid. That’s because on the inside I’m filled with shame and have a negative internal working model.I don’t believe I deserve good/nice things so I sabotage everything I am rude because I want to illicit the same response from you that I received in my previous/birth family. It feels comfortable when you behave in a way I expect even though it’s not good for me and just proves I’m right and that all adults are the same I am rude because you got too close and I’m scared of attachment I am rude to push you away and reject you before you reject me! I am rude because I’m perceiving a threat where there is none, this is called faulty neuroception I am rude because I can’t think before I behave in a certain way or say the wrong thing. I have no internal inhibitors I am rude because my higher brain is underdeveloped and offline I am rude because that’s the label I’ve been given by everyone so I might as well live up to it. Finally, I am mostly rude because I’m scared!

14.01.2022 What’s going to make this Christmas awesome for our volunteers? New shelves! We are over the moon to have received funding support from Wellington Shire Council in this year’s Community Assistance Grants round for custom built-in shelves in one of our packing rooms. Every year our volunteers wrap hundreds upon hundreds of Christmas gifts for children in out of home care. The wrapped gifts are tagged for each child by our Founder Heather, but most of them are bulky and our vol...unteers end up having to step over mounds of gifts to get more gifts wrapped and Crisis Cases packed. Not this year! We can’t wait to have our new shelves up and ready for all the gifts you all send to us in for kids in care. Thanks to Wellington Shire Council for the support! http://abetterlifeforfosterkids.org.au/thanks-wellington-s/
13.01.2022 Just a reminder to give us a vote in the 2020 Victorian Regional Achievement and Community People's Choice Award! You can vote once per day. The poll closes at midnight on Monday 30th November 2020. https://awardsaustralia.app.do/2020-people-s-choice-award
10.01.2022 Are you a carer who has received one of our Crisis Cases for a child in your care? Can you give us 5 minutes to provide your feedback? It helps us with understanding how well we are meeting the kids' needs, and also helps us to let our funders know what impact their dollars have: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/6572MD6

05.01.2022 It’s been a really tough year for so many kids and their carers, but we aren’t going to let 2020 be the Grinch who stole Christmas! We’ve all become masters of online shopping this year, and that’s going to be our superpower to make this Christmas special for kids in out of home care. In 2019 we gifted to more than 700 families. That’s a lot of pressies and a lot of joy you’ve brought at a time of year that can be very emotional for kids who aren’t able to spend it with their... birth parent/s or siblings. This year we want to make sure we can reach that many and more. The gifts you donate make sure kids in foster and kinship care have a wonderful surprise waiting for them under the tree to make them feel treasured at Christmas. Get online and get shopping (items under $40 only please), and deliver toys, gift cards up to $30 (Target, Kmart, Big W etc) stocking stuffers and other goodies straight to our volunteer gift wrapping elves at PO Box 1138 Sale Vic, 3850. The earlier the better, to give our elves time to gift wrap. DM us if your business is interested in setting up a gifting tree! All gifts received with a happy dance on behalf of the little munchkins who we know will be over the moon to receive your gifts this Christmas.
