22.01.2022 Steve's top ten "Doctor Who" stories... (and this one is in countdown order from 10 to 1) 10.) The Eleventh Hour - Matt Smith's debut is one of the most assured of any of the Doctors and it leads to one of the best lines of the series... "I'm the Doctor... Basically... Run!" 9.) An Unearthly Child - William Hartnell's debut is as magnificent now as it was in 1963. It's only so low on the list because of the three episodes of the cave men!... 8.) Carnival of Monsters - Jon Pertwee at his moralistic best! Awesome concept, the Drashigs are genuinely mindless and terrifying and the race through the miniscope is fun, fun, fun! 7.) Mawdryn Undead - the very first Doctor Who video tape I ever owned... Know this story word for word and the first episode of the brilliant Mark Strickson as Turlough. He's the Doctor's companion, but he wants to kill him... I'm confused... But in a good way! 6.) Tomb of the Cybermen -the best of the sixties Cybermen stories I feel. Troughton is magnificent as the Doctor and complete with Victoria and Jamie, they are a formidable team against the Timelord's second best aliens... 5.) Utopia/ The Sound of Drums/ Last of the Time Lords - my favourite David Tennant epic. I remember watching it for the first time, enthralled by the Master's return and genuinely wondering where the story was going. Went through an array of emotions whilst tuning in... 4.) City of Death - Tom Baker at his anarchic best. The Parisian setting, Scaroth of the Jagoroth, the fourth Doctor, Romana and K9 teaming, Douglas Adams writing and even the curious scene with John Cleese and Eleanor Bron. Fantastic Duggan, fantastic! 3.) The Five Doctors - This was perhaps the biggest epic that the show has ever produced. One story including all of the living Doctors to date (with a few tweaks admittedly... ahem Tom Baker and Richard Hurndall...) For a young boy who only knew of Tom and Peter, this was an eye opening adventure that set up a lifetime love of the series I feel. 2.) The Empty Child/ The Doctor Dances - Everybody lives Rose, everybody lives! This was the moment that I knew for certain that the Doctor was back in the new series... and that he was staying. The whole idea of the gas mask child is haunting and that catchphrase is still as compelling fifteen years later... "Are you my mummy?" 1.) The Caves of Androzani - Davison was MY Doctor and this was his moment. It is, in my opinion, the most accomplished story that the series has ever produced and what makes it remarkable is that there isn't a Dalek in sight or a barrage of special effects... It is about a hero and a heroine who are dying from the outset and just need to escape the madness and nutbags around them to survive. Brilliant stuff and perhaps the most selfless and memorable of all the regeneration scenes and I mean EVER. There you go, who is going to give me their picks?

17.01.2022 It's book week in some schools and our friends Isabella and Charlotte were nowhere to be seen on Wednesday! They were replaced by Paddington Bear and the Ninja Bunny respectively!!!!! We quickly leapt at the opportunity for a photo call! Thanks guys for coming in to show us your costumes. Your mum, Kristy, worked so hard on them and they looked awesome! Charlotte had a nifty pair of carrot nunchucks and Isabella had a knitted Marmalade sandwich and a cool suitcase to boot!

12.01.2022 On This Day - 19th June (1954) - The iconic Tassie Devil character made his debut in the animated film 'Devil May Hare" starring Bugs Bunny (we have also in...cluded 11 gorgeous photos of real Tassie Devils) 66 years ago today the iconic Looney Tunes character of Tassie Devil made his debut in animation history. In short, Bugs Bunny is surprised when a group of fleeing animals runs by, but soon discovers the reason, a Tasmanian Devil is on the loose! And, driven by a voracious appetite they love to eat everything in their path including rabbits! Thankfully for cinematic history Tassie Devil (simply known as Taz) failed in his bid to catch Bugs Bunny. At the time he also failed to impress Edward Selzer, the head of animation, as he regarded Taz too voilent for children and he decided to shelve Taz. However, after literally thousands of fan letters wanting to see more of Taz, the decision was overturned by studio owner Jack Warner and the rest is... as you say HISTORY. Although Taz can be very devious, he is also very sweet at times. Taz continued to make guest appearances in Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck cartonns before our iconic Tassie Devil was given his own show. In 1991 the animated series Taz-Maniz debuted to the love of audiences worldwide. He also appeared in feature films such as Space Jam with the best basketbaler of all time Michael Jordan. Taz, the Tassie Devil, has inspired generations to worry about the fate of the real Tasmanain Devils. Real Tasmanian devils are nothing like an adorable cartoon character. The carnivorous marsupial is anything but cute, looking like a small black dog with an oversized head and nasty teeth, is so antisocial it cannot be domesticated, is notoriously ill-tempered, and has a mean case of body odor. They have been decimated by a horrible facial tumor disease that wiped out 80 percent of them. Together with hunting (aborigines collected their teeth for necklaces, and European settlers killed them to protect livestock), the disease nearly sent the species the way of the dodo. Today the little Tassie Devils are among conservation’s great success stories. There have been sanctuaries established to provide large quarantine facilities, where the animals could multiply and thrive free from the disease. A species previously listed as endangered has now been declared recovered. Healthy animals are now being inoculated against the disease, reintroduced to the wild, and flourishing. There is also a totally disease-free population thriving on Maria Island. Today the Tassie Devil is an iconic symbol of Tasmania, who has not only to a degree put us on the worldwide map, but many organisations, groups and products associated with Tasmania use the Tassie Devil symbol in their logos. It is seen as an important attractor of tourists to Tasmania and first came to worldwide attention when the Looney Tunes character debuted with another legend in Bugs Bunny. Here are a few facts about our iconic Tasmanian Devil (we have also included 11 gorgeous photos in this series): The Tassie Devil is incredibly well suited to its environment with a number of adaptation that allows it to fill an important niche in the environment. 1. The white blazes that appear on their chest and rump help break up their shape and assist with camouflage. 2. Their ears allows for heat dissipation and also contributed to their name as the looked like glowing horns in low light. 3. The incredibly wide gape in their jaw assist the devil with crushing bones that make up a large portion of their diet. The devil’s jaw pressure is considered one of the strongest for an animal of its size in the world. 4. The Tassie Devil is the world's largest surviving carnivorous marsupial. 5. The Tassie Devil's spine-chilling screeches set it apart from other wildlife.

06.01.2022 It is with sadness that we learn that John Challis, AKA "Boycie" from the BBC Hit Comedy "Only Fools and Horses" has passed away at the age of 79 of cancer. Boycie was the character in the show that you loved to hate. He was the pretentious and snobby used car salesman that did his level best to get one up on the Trotter family in their various endeavours to attempt to make thier millions. Coupled with his on-screen wife, Marlene, he was hilarious and added to this fantastic ensemble cast making it one of the most popular comedy shows in TV history. Boycie, and John, you will be missed! Rest in Peace and thanks for the laughter! Just don't wear onion juice in your hair in comedy heaven... it will still pong like a pizza!

04.01.2022 Sad to see the death of Maurice Roeves, who of course played Stotz in probably one of the most acclaimed "Doctor Who" stories ever... Peter Davison's swansong "The Caves of Androzani". Stotz was the typical villain we all loved to hate... he was a bully through and through and really helped to make this story special. He passed away last week and all we can say is rest in peace and thanks for the years of fear!!!!
