24.01.2022 Good morning, just a wee update on changes to my continuing workshops for 2020 & 2021. For more information please pm me on messenger, or through my website www.awaywithclay.com Stay safe & well.

23.01.2022 I took these delicious Succulent Bird Pots from the kiln this morning......some have already flown the coop and others are being carefully & lovingly packed to be sent off to new homes.

22.01.2022 I’m very excited to let you all know I will be commencing workshops next month. All those booked to do workshops with me in June (Garden Sculpture), August (Wall Frieze), September (Garden Sculpture), and November (Flower Workshop) I am looking forward to creating with you. I will be in touch with everyone prior to the workshops to checkin and give you relevant details. Please check Messenger on your FB for private messages. I will also contact via text. Warmest Regards Jena

22.01.2022 It was looking like self isolation was going to be a slow and relaxed time for me, just pottering around, doing some weeding & reading, maybe some house work (...)....a fair amount of pondering. Well things took a rather dramatic turn on the weekend and now I'm knee deep in boxes and tape and post office runs, happily so might I add. Over the last few years I have had many enquiries from people wanting to purchase my work online but I have declined, mostly due to my teaching schedule and Open Studios. Now of course everything has changed and all those who have wanted work sent are now in luck as I'm back in the studio madly making work like a woman possessed.... well more like a woman on a mission. If you are hankering after that special piece of work, a Bird Succulent pot or totem, a Bellbird or a Serenity pot etc....let me know and I'll whip one up for you and send it off. Now is certainly the time to embrace new ways of working and Im always grateful.

18.01.2022 These beautiful garden totems are the finished works of my students at our last Garden Sculpture Workshop before the second round of stage 3 restrictions. As pickup of the work may be delayed I thought I'd give each participant a photo of their completed pieces to enjoy. Dympna Painter, Liz Cadzow, Jane Boag, Michele Cleaver, Sharyn Jones & Kelly Pepperell.

17.01.2022 I'm not too sure who enjoys these workshops more.....me or the participants? A beautiful day with a gorgeous group of women. A shared lunch wasn't complete without Kelly Pepperell's amazing wee designer cupcakes and Jane Boag's homemade sourdough. The class was a mix of women with experience working in clay and some newbies, all did a remarkable job creating up to 12 individual pieces today. The work at this stage isn't complete, it will undergo a couple of firings and glazing. Thank you also to Sharyn Jones, Dympna Painter, Liz Cadzow and Michele Cleaver for making the day so enjoyable.

12.01.2022 Woohoo!! Back in the studio this weekend for our Garden Sculpture Totem making workshop after a 3 month pause. Can’t wait to create with all who are booked in for 2020. I have managed to squeeze in the workshops that were postponed earlier in the year so it’s going to be a busy next half of 2020. Time for some fun.... I will be advertising new workshops for 2021 on my website on 01/09/20 www.awaywithclay.com

12.01.2022 Hello there......I'm just wanting to let you know of a few changes I've decided to make to my studio practice next year. These changes have been on my mind for ...sometime (even before Corona) . From 2021 I will be offering only weekend workshops (no more 6 week courses @ this stage), the reason for this is so I can give more people an opportunity to participate in one of my workshops. The other reason for this is (being my 60th year) I'm honouring my need as an Artist to allocate more time to pursuing my own studio practise. WORKSHOPS My aim is to inspire those who participate in a workshop to not only learn new skills & techniques but also create something they are genuinely proud of & to connect with fellow creatives. From here you may choose to participate in another workshop or begin creating from home (my own creative journey with clay began at the kitchen table). Many of my students have gone on to join other courses or workshops or have set up there own small studios. Working with Clay has been a lifetime practice for me and the journey is infinite, once your hooked there is no going back. ALL NEW WORKSHOPS FOR THE FIRST HALF OF 2021 WILL BE ADVERTISED ON 01/09/20. I WILL BE SENDING OUT REMINDERS PRIOR TO THIS DATE TO CHECK MY WEBSITE. YOU MAY WANT TO POP THIS DATE INTO YOUR PHONE CALENDER AS A REMINDER. PLACES WILL BE LIMITED TO 6 PARTICIPANTS PER WORKSHOP. A DEPOSIT WILL BE REQUIRED TO SECURE YOUR PLACE. ACCOMMODATION WILL ALSO BE AVAILABLE. PS: Please feel free to share this post. I look forward to creating with some of you in 2021. Warmest good wishes Jena Bedson

11.01.2022 Making these Serenity pots is always a joy although the size means I find them quite hard to handle when soft. I recently discovered a perfect solution to this....a foam rubber mould to support the piece while I put the finishing touches to the face. I purchased the foam and using an electric carving knife cut a circular hole in the top layer to help support the work. Problem solved.

11.01.2022 The final day of our Friday pottery course ended on a high note with a visit to a neighbours whimsical and creative garden & a delicious morning tea in the courtyard. Always a mixture of emotions on the final day, sad that it's come to an end but joyful knowing that students will leave with some beautiful work to take home and a deeper awareness of the intricacies of working with clay.

10.01.2022 These little sweeties are my new bellbirds. They have a gorgeous tinkling sound and look just perfect hanging indoors or out. Great gift ideas....PM me for details. #bellbirds #ceramicbells #pottery #jenabedson #handmade #handbuilding #livingacreativelife #studioceramics #creativity #gardenart #chimes

10.01.2022 Classes & Workshops To anyone who has booked into a class or workshop with me in the coming months I am just letting you know I haven’t cancelled any of these at this stage. Although my workshops are limited to only 5 participants I am monitoring the situation as it unfolds. I will be clearer as we get closer to the dates of the workshops. If it’s necessary to postpone the workshops I will not hesitate. Any deposits made will be transferred to more suitable times later in th...e year. I will be privately messaging all participants over the coming weeks. Please take care and maintain good health. In the meantime let’s share wonderful creative and inspiring posts on social media. There is plenty of opportunity to change the focus of our attention and give ourselves some relief from all the hype. Blessings to all. Jena See more

09.01.2022 These decorative pillow heart shaped beads started life as a solid prototype, a plaster cast was created and now I can duplicate them. The pattern is added while they are leather hard. For all those who have ordered a bird totem you will be in for a heart shaped surprise.

08.01.2022 Everywhere I turn I'm seeing "birds". Thank you to all who ordered for Mothers Day. I'm no longer taking orders for that date but will have more later in May.

08.01.2022 Hi All, just letting you know I have changed all my business info including the name of this FB page. I am no longer A Way with Clay.....I am now going by my name Jena Bedson and for this FB page Jena Bedson Pottery Workshops.

04.01.2022 It's been a tough week . I found the hardest thing for me is the "should I, shouldn't I"...in other words the indecision as to whether or not to continue with planned workshops. Finally I came to the conclusion that if I was anxious about it then I shouldn't go ahead. Having made the decision to just postpone things for a while I feel so much better. Like so many of you, I'm erring on the side of caution and taking time out at home. Our health and wellbeing & the wellbeing o...f friends & family is far more important than pushing ahead with pre arranged plans. I will pick up where I left off at some point down the track when things are looking rosier, when the atmosphere is conducive and when life returns to some semblance of normality. I will use this time creatively with projects to complete and orders to fill. I'm sure the current (situation) will take me into unchartered waters and allow me to dive deeper to reveal some new work & perhaps new directions. Below are some of my students final projects fresh from the kiln yesterday. Many thanks to all those who have been so lovingly supportive of what I have to offer in my classes & workshops. See you all on the other side of this crisis....soon. Stay well. See more

04.01.2022 Good afternoon all. I have just taken these bell birds from the kiln and am spending the afternoon threading them up. If you would like to purchase one for a special gift, birthday, get well etc...I would be happy to package and send to the person for you. I can also include a little personalised message from you . For details including cost and postage you can pm me or email me at [email protected] . I am using this time of self isolation to create some stock and will co...ntinue to post some special pieces for under $100 that you may enjoy for yourself or another. Pick up is also available, taking into consideration the need for social distancing. Stay well & stay safe. Within Australia only. Thank you to all who have so generously responded. I have sold out of this first batch but will be making more. If you would like to place an order please pm me for details. Many thanks. #pottery #australianceramics #bellbirds #handmade #handbuilding #clay #decorative #gardenart #ceramicfeathers #claybeads See more

03.01.2022 A little update on what's happening in my studio at the moment. Prior to the Covid-19 outbreak my year was full of workshops & classes. I was intending to head to Darwin in June for a girls road trip to Kakadu.....a much looked forward to trip. During this trip away I had some plans to have a mini studio renovation done, after 4 yrs of working in the space there were some things that needed tweaking. Anyway life for so many of us has turned on it's head and the best made pl...ans have all flown away. The up side of this for me is that I have amazing students (yes you!!) and nothing is lost it just needs a bit of patience and relocating. And so getting back to what's happening in the studio......I'm doing the mini renovation now instead of in June. I'm very excited about this as I believe it will really open the space up and also give me a beautiful display area for my work which I haven't had in the past. For all of you (students & workshop participants) it will mean even more space to spread out (hopefully social distancing won't be a problem as I'm a hugger) to create gorgeous work. I would like to thank you all for your lovely messages of ongoing support and for the easy and graceful way you completely accepted without hesitation the need to adjust our plans for the year. All deposits paid will be transferred to new dates for our workshops and classes in the future. I'm hoping we can do a few before the end of the year but if not I will just superimpose my calendar to 2021. Stay safe and well and continue where and when you can to create. Warmest Regards Jena

01.01.2022 I would like to invite you to follow my new business page Jena Bedson Ceramics. I will be posting the work I make and sell online from this platform. Over the last 10 yrs I have been focusing my attention on working as an Art Therapist in the area of mental health and developing my classes and workshops from my home based studio here in Warburton. Ordinarily I only sell my work directly from home during the Open Studios once a year. Things however have changed....as these a...re no ordinary times and I am embracing a new rhythm, a new way of engaging with my customers and those who simply enjoy creating with clay. I love finding creative solutions to the challenges that present themselves and covid-19 has certainly been challenging for many. I hope you enjoy my new page, it will not be a hard sell, push page....it's about creative inspiration, engagement and finding your passion. If you see something you like or want to know more you can head to my website for all the details. I value your feedback and our continued connection. Many thanks and heartfelt regards, Jena See more
