25.01.2022 WARNING - We are seeing more cases of computers infected with Cryptolocker Ransomware. This is the worst virus we have ever seen in our 20 years in this industry. It encrypts your data, then you get a message after the damage is done to say if you want your data back then you have to pay for it. Once encrypted there is no possible way to get your files back, unless you want to give your money away to the criminals, you might be lucky enough they might unencrypt your data. ...Heres what you need do to avoid it: 1. Dont be tricked into opening emails, particularly ones that are from a well known freight company like Fedex, Australia Post etc..Freight Companys do not email you to tell you there is a parcel, never ever to that - how would they know your email address in first place. 2. Do not leave your back up drive connected all the time. If you get hit with cryptolocker, it will encrypt your backed up data on your external drive too. 3. If you have a permanent connection to an online cloud account, such as DropBox - and your Drop Box storage is shown as a drive in My PC, then uninstall Dropbox, and connect to it though your browser only when you need access to it. One of our clients had their drop box files encrypted because it was a connected drive at the time the virus hit, 4. Backup your data regularly, and disconnect your data drive, or dropbox account. 5. Get yourself the a PAID internet security subscription to one to Trend Micro, or Nortons or one of the better well known security packages, make sure the version of security package you are buying specifically states it protects you from Ransomeware/Cryptolocker.

23.01.2022 With the arrival of summer, we see a lot more computers having issues with booting up. Very often this is due to a combination of dust build up together with the higher temperatures in summer causing computers to overheat. Overheating occasionally can cause the computer processor to burn out completely, and when this happens the computer is not repairable. Just as it is important to keep your car serviced, it is also important to service your computer regularly, both Des...ktop PCs and Laptop computers. We are offering a special up to 23rd of December, where we are offering an in workshop service on your computer at $64, a saving of 25% off our normal rate. This includes up to one hour of labour on your computer for a service, clean and complete check over. If extra issues are found that are outside our special offer of a clean, service, and check over for the discounted rate of $64, then we will provide you with a quote prior to commencing. Below are before and after pictures, showing the dust build up in a desktop computer, where the fans and vents were so dusted up this computer completely stopped working. There was no ability for the fans to cool down the internal equipment, essential for a computer to work To book your service, please email or call us on 3821 6200, if the office is unattended at the time you call, please leave a voice message with your name and phone number for us to call back to organise. We have now relocated our business from South Street Cleveland to our home workshop in Alexandra Hills. Please ensure you get our new address off us at the time you book your service.

22.01.2022 Two Ransomware outbreaks are happening right now: Australia Post and Cryptowall Attachment. We advise users: Not to enter Captcha codes to any postal tracking site... Not to open invoice / refund attachments from email (Cryptowall) We had a client in this morning who opened the Australia Post email attachment, all his data is encrypted(not backed up).

21.01.2022 AGL SCAM EMAIL ALERT - never open emails from AGL, immediately delete and also delete from your Trash folder. The latest in a long list of scam emails containing links that release an encryption virus. Ransom If you opened the email, and clicked on any of their links, it releases a virus which encrypts all you files, including pictures, office files, videos and business files like MYOB and Quickbooks. It will also encrypt all your connected drives, including backup dri...ves that are plugged in, and connected cloud accounts such as drop box. Once the encryption is completed, you will not be able to open any of your files, and you will get a message on your screen that asks you to pay a ransom to get your files back. I received one such scam email this morning see the attachment. (This is a screen print only, it can not harm your computer by opening the image) See more

16.01.2022 A bargain thats for sure ( in the 1980s )

16.01.2022 NEW SCAM ALERT - Help get the word out and Share this: Scammers have Google Ads pretending to be Trend Micro Support, they are appearing in Google search results higher than the real Trend Micro Support. You dont have to look too hard to recognise a scammer. Look at the web address is it is not prefixed with www.trendmicro.com.au/ then it is not Trend Micro. The same could be said for any major company you are trying to call for help, particularly so with computer type of support, like Bigond/Telstra/Nortons/Microsoft and so on. Dont call them. Heres a hint too, there scammers numbers all seem to start with 1800, where as the real suport numbers are nearly always a 13 or a 1300 number. Review this attachment carefully, so you can see how to spot a scammer ad.

15.01.2022 Warning, another Ransomware outbreak: TorrentLocker being spread on Fake Australia Post websites. We advise clients not to enter Captcha codes to any postal sites.

15.01.2022 If you are locked out from your Microsoft Account, and password reset does not work for you, then use this URL to recover your Microsoft Account: https://account.live.com/acsr This recovers your account, not just a password reset. My Microsoft account for my business was completely locked, could not reset the password, once reset even the new password would not work. Worse than that my other two Microsoft accounts I use privately which use the same recovery email address were locked as well, all at the same time, Ive no idea why, except the recovery emails address was the same for each. However, using this URL I was able to successfully recover all three accounts.

15.01.2022 Apples iPhone And iPad Trade-In Scheme Kicks Off In Australia Got an old iPhone or iPad kicking around in your drawer at home? Now its finally worth something: As expected, Apple has kicked off its iPhone and iPad Recycling Scheme in Australia that will see customers paid up to $250 for their old gadgets. From today, all 21 Apple Stores around the country will allow customers to trade in their iPhone and iPads for credit on new models.... Customers will get up to $250 credit on an iPhone, and up to $215 credit on an iPad. Of course, that credit has limits: it can only be used to upgrade to a new iPhone or iPad. Apple Geniuses will be assessing the devices as they come in and using a scale to determine the trade-in value. The devices iteration, condition and overall value will be assessed before a value is determined. Apple says that only a few devices are restricted from trade-in. You wont be able to trade original model iPhones (such as the iPhone 3GS) or first-generation iPads. Apple also wont be accepting new models such as the iPhone 5s or iPad Air.

13.01.2022 Be aware that Microsofts offer of a free upgrade to Windows10 ends on 29th July 2016. If you intended on doing the upgrade, then time is running out. Just be aware that we have seen some Windows 10 upgrade failures in our workshop here, mostly Windows 7 to Windows 10, on older comptuers. I received this email from Microsoft this morning: Dear Jenny, It was just about one year ago that Windows 10 was launched with customers given the opportunity to upgrade their current W...indows software to Windows 10 free of charge. To date 300 million customers have upgraded to Windows 10, and now with the upgrade offer coming to an end on 29th July 2016, its time to remind your customers of this deadline. Some customers have been reluctant to make the upgrade to Windows 10. Inform and educate your customers of some of the key benefits: Windows 10 starts up an average of 28% faster* than Windows 7. Its designed to work with software and hardware your customers already own. Provides enterprise-grade securitynot available in Windows 7. It is the most secure Windows ever, from power-on to power-off, protecting user identities, information, and devices on or off network. Automatic updates to keep your customers system up to date for the supported lifetime of the device. Security updates, bug fixes, and new features delivered directly to your customers business. Upgrade your customers before the offer ends on the 29th July 2016. Click here to find out how. * Testing conducted by Principled Technologies in July 2015 in a closed lab environment using OEM factory default images on a representative sample of Windows 7 devices. Each boot test was run 10 times and the averages compared. Average improvement in startup was 28%. See more

12.01.2022 Currently there is a Ransom-ware Outbreak in Australia - where your data is stolen for ransom. We had a client in our office a couple of weeks ago, where he received a message advising his data has been encrypted and if he wanted it back he had to pay for it - and sure enough his data was encrypted (not usable). Be wary of any email from Australia Post or any other courier or freight company. If you open such an email, do not click on anything, nor enter the Captcha code - as these actions will release the virus to encrypt your data. The latest edition of Trend Micro Internet Security has Ransom-ware Protection - consider reviewing your Internet Security to see if you are protected for this type of threat.

12.01.2022 Just found out the Redlands Library offer a HELP service for FREE, for computer related how to questions. If you dont know how to do something on your computer, or your smart phone, pop into the library, tell them you need help - they will book you time to see one of their staff, who will endeavour to show you how to on your computer, tablet or phone. (thank you Charlie for the heads up on this)

12.01.2022 Windows 10 will be released in the next few months, I wonder what they skipped right over Windows 9 - http://www.forbes.com//23/microsoft-releases-new-windows/

10.01.2022 HEARTBLEED - if you have not heard about it yet, then you soon will. Essentially, it is a major security flaw on countless websites, the flaw allows the stealing of secure data ( you know the padlock, or the HTTPS:// you always look for when entering sensitive information, well it has recently found that many of those sites are not secure). If you have an account (login) to any of these websites, then immediately change your passwords: http://mashable.com///09/heartbleed-bug-websites-affected/

08.01.2022 "Windows 10 Upgrade" WARNING to TELSTRA 4G Customers - If you are using a Telstra 4G USB Modem, that looks like this. Be aware that it may not work after upgrading your computer to Windows 10. We have been on the phone to a Telstra technician, who is unable to help us get this particular 4G modem working on Windows 10, he admitted to being inundated with similar complaints on this modem. His answer to the problem was to roll back the upgrade to the earlier installed operating system.

08.01.2022 We are almost the end of the Financial Year once again, and we are offering a discount on labour of 10% on all workshop and onsite service work until 30th June, you just need to Like our page

07.01.2022 This put a smile on my face today

06.01.2022 An interesting collage of houses, someone has cleverly put together as a visual representation of each of the Microsoft Windows Operating Systems over the last 20 years, made me smile, especially the Vista House, and then again the Windows 8 house !!!!

06.01.2022 Our client Reports an EMAIL Scam: Hi Jenny & Peter Just this evening I received an Email from PC HealthBoost stating I seem to have numerous computer faults & they guided me through how to rectify the problem & improve my computer performance. They seemed to have all the right credentials eg- Microsoft & Norton approved . ... I moved along until they stated for a small one off fee of $ 39 all would be well. I smelt a rat & phoned Symantec who supply Norton Security. Surprise,Surprise - Symantec has never heard of this PC HealthBoost & suggested I close it down at once. Just as well I did not supply any credit card details. Actually I had problems with closing them down & they were very persistent. It took approx 30 minutes before they gave up the ghost. I am sending U this Email as a matter of urgency since , because I am golfing on Monday, this will be quicker than phone on Monday P.M. Golfingly Yours Bill

05.01.2022 Heres what Microsoft wont tell you about the FREE Upgrade to Windows 10 offer. Nearly 2 weeks since the upgrade was made available for Windows 7 and Windows 8 computers, heres what we have learned: The older the computer the higher the risk the upgrade will fail Windows 7 to Windows 10 upgrade is more likely to fail You lose the ability to play DVD movies in Windows 10, you have to buy the software from Microsoft to have that ability (or install a third party produc...t) You lose games, such as Solitaire (you can install from Store for free, but has invasive ads if you want to remove the ads you pay a yearly subscription for the privilege You will need to download Windows 10 printer software for your model of printer and install your printer after the upgrade (if your printer supports Windows 10, otherwise you are up for a new printer too) Some people have reported not being able to send emails when using Outlook 2013, using Windows 10 operating system, with a Bigpond email account. We should know more about this in a couple of days. Even had an issue upgrading from an up-market top of the range Asus laptop, which is only about 2 months old. After upgrade, the USB ports dont work. So even newer laptops can have issues. There are many good aspects as well, nice clean interface, the start button is back, hooray for that!! And some other features too, which Im sure people will love. Just think very carefully before upgrading, and make sure you have all your data backed up first. Good luck, if you decide to proceed, hopefully it will be smooth for you. See more

05.01.2022 Could not agree more, I love this quote from a wise man: "A customer is the most important visitor on our premises; he is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption in our work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider in our business. He is part of it. We are not doing him a favour by serving him. He is doing us a favour by giving us an opportunity to do so" "Mahatma Gandhi"

05.01.2022 Wow look what has just pulled up outside our workshop - 1924 Delage D1, took my breath away, mint condition, fully restored to its former glory.

01.01.2022 This is seriously FUNNY....the writer of this piece of MALWARE has an imaginative flair for scaring people into calling their toll free number so they can scam you. If you want some entertainment, read the text in this pic..... honestly, is anyone going to seriously believe this... "Press any key to vent radiological emssions into the atmoshere...Consult reactor core manual for instructions...molten core warning...."
