24.01.2022 The Premier has announced that most Victorian students will be learning from home in Term Two. We know this change leaves us with lots of questions. We have be...en speaking up for students with disability and working with the Department of Education and Training to ensure: Clear guidelines for students with disability during COVID-19. Reasonable adjustments, such as modifying learning tasks. Continuation of support by Education Support Officers. Infection control measures in schools and school transport. Were meeting with the DET on Thursday, so if theres something you want us to ask, please let us know UPDATE Thanks for all these questions we look forward to sharing these responses with the DET. Heres a quick summary of what has been announced by the Premier and Minister today in relation to schools: If they can, students must remain at home Schools, including special schools. will be open. This is only for students whose parents cant work at home or vulnerable students. Devices, laptops and data will be provided by schools to students that dont have them. This will happen in the first few weeks of Term Two. Schools will provide learning activities for students to do at home. Students going to school will be doing the same learning activity as those at home.

22.01.2022 I know a lot of people have been waiting for this, so Ill cut to the chase. On Tuesday 26 May all Prep, Grade 1 and 2, and all VCE, VCAL and specialist schoo...l students will return to classroom learning. All other year levels will return on Tuesday 9 June. And Monday 25 May will be a pupil-free day to make sure everythings ready to go. Well still be offering on-site supervision during those two interim weeks for families who need it but by 9 June, all kids will be back to face-to-face learning in the classroom. Our Government will provide additional funding for daily cleaning and extra sanitiser and soap supplies. Well prioritise testing for any Victorian school staff members who wish to do so, including those without symptoms. And well support teachers and staff at greater risk to continue working remotely. That includes older staff or those with underlying health conditions. Schools will be taking extra precautions too such as staggered drop off and pickup times to avoid lots of parents being in the same place at the same time. While we were working so hard to flatten the curve, it was really important not to have a million kids and their parents and carers moving around the community every day. But thanks to everyones hard work, were now able to make some changes. We always said wed follow the advice of the Victorian Chief Health Officer, and that our decisions would be based on evidence and they are. But its only because people stayed home and stayed apart and hundreds of thousands of Victorians got tested that we have the data to back this up and the confidence to move forward. The next couple of weeks will be crucial, and Ill keep you posted every step of the way. I know wrangling a preppy while youre trying to work from home is a challenge. That studying for a SAC or an exam from the kitchen table was never going to be ideal. And that teaching a class of five-year-olds online is something no-ones ever been asked to do before. But thanks to the hard work and patience of parents, carers, teachers and staff, and students weve done it. And done it so well.
22.01.2022 Now thats an idea! How is home schooling going at your house?
22.01.2022 Im hoping that you have all managed to stay safe from the fires and that they have had minimal impact on your families. Just like adults, many children will have been stressed or traumatised by the fires, not only those who were directly impacted, but also many more who are experiencing stress and anxiety as they watch the news, are affected by smoke or hear conversations by their friends and family. This article gives ideas on how to help your child to cope. Stay safe
19.01.2022 A Step Forward Physiotherapy is turning 3! I cant believe its been 3 years since A Step Forward Physiotherapy started. Of course Ive worked as a physio for much longer than that, and worked with kids for over 20 years, but its been 3 years since I started out on my own.... Ive met so many wonderful people in those 3 years and so many awesome kids! I love what I do. Its fantastic being able to spend most of my time having fun playing with kids! At the moment, Im doing my best to keep everyone safe by staying away from the kids and seeing them online in teletherapy sessions instead, working from home like so many people around the world. A few months ago, I was thinking this birthday post would be a photo of "all the staff" partying, which of course means me partying on my own... but partying alone somehow doesnt seem so funny any more... ...so heres a cute picture of a penguin partying instead!

13.01.2022 Ive made a video for 4-11 year olds about coping with Coronavirus challenges and worries. Making this video helped me cope with my own stress and anxiety this... week. Perhaps we all need "child friendly" materials about this at the moment. This video is copyright free and able to be shared with whoever you think might find it useful. 12.01.2022 Do you want to support East Gippsland? Apart from donating to the relief fund, one of the best things you can do to help is come to visit and enjoy some great East Gippsland hospitality. This morning after seeing one of my young clients in Marlo, I bought lunch at the Snowy River Caf (so much better than the sandwich I would have brought from home!).... Come and stay, eat out, enjoy activities and have fun. Pledging a visit is a great idea. So is making a booking. You can start by visiting https://www.visitgippsland.com.au/loveeastgippsland This way, youll be booking directly with the businesses who need you most. And if you can, why dont you prepay as well? The people of East Gippsland would certainly appreciate it.
10.01.2022 There will be a Playgroup Networking Event/Service Expo for families of children with additional needs in Bairnsdale on 4 March. This will give families the opportunity to see what services are available for them to access as well as being a great opportunity to network, get useful information and have lots of fun.

05.01.2022 ##### We want to hear from you ###### Like all of you we continue to watch closely how the country is reacting to Coronavirus or COVID-19 with very close observ...ations on how it is impacting people with disabilities across Gippsland. As a disability advocacy organisation we are fortunate to have direct access to government officials and key stakeholders through our peak bodies particularly in regards to COVID-19. Some of the issues you have raised with us recently we have been able to have direct input into, and advocated to authorities include (not limited to): - The medical issues your encountering, - The stockpiling in our supermarkets and how it negatively impacts people with disabilities, - Priority Assistance for people with disabilities (via Woolworths). - Home schooling for children with disabilities, - The recently announced stimulus package which did not adequately include increases to the DSP Pension. - Connections to community as a result of COVID-19. - The NDIS and where confusion arises with plans as a result of social distancing. Your voice is important right now and we would love to hear from you, how your coping, your thoughts, fears and barriers you have. Collectively we will continue to take your concerns to the relevant parties to ensure your voice is heard. Feel free to contact our Executive Officer Adrian Terranova on 0428 971 390 or via email: [email protected] or our Administration/HR Officer Leanne Blake on 0428 041 066 or via email: [email protected] Stay safe and continue to look out for yourself and those around you.
04.01.2022 Wishing a safe and happy Easter to all my young friends and their families. Im missing you seeing you in person instead of on the screen, but hoping that being apart is keeping us all safe and healthy Looking forward to catching up with all of you when we can
04.01.2022 Can you guess where I was today? Ok, so Ive made it a bit harder this time by removing the background for confidentiality (because there were other kids around). But I think its pretty easy to work out where I was anyway. I was working with a young boy in the water. Doing physio in the water is a great way to improve balance, coordination and strength and is so much more motivating because its fun. ... Then he decided I needed to go with him through the rainbow with squirting water. "Oh...ok" Then he wanted to try going under "the bucket". "Ok, as long as youre kneeling up tall" Then he wanted me to go under "the bucket" with him.... Oh... .. oh well, the things a physio will do to motivate her clients!
03.01.2022 Heres a good way to get your kids moving
